After telling listeners Irma was a liberal hoax, Limbaugh quietly evacuates South Florida https://t.co/JAtylJjmHF pic.twitter.com/3XyhfiE577
— Judd Legum (@JuddLegum) September 8, 2017
Just in case anyone’s got elderly relatives in Hurricane Irma’s path who’ve been unwilling to evacuate because they’ve been listening to RW charlatans…
“May as well… announce this. I’m not going to get into details because of the security nature of things, but it turns out that we will not be able to do the program here tomorrow,” Limbaugh said Thursday. “We’ll be on the air next week, folks, from parts unknown.”…
Limbaugh did not recant his earlier statements about Irma, and he did not encourage his listeners in the area to evacuate. In fact, Limbaugh seemed to even double down on his earlier views…
On his show Tuesday, Limbaugh said he was reading the paths of the hurricane and was certain it would curve into the Atlantic, and even if it did so, Limbaugh said “official” meteorologists and the media would have accomplished their goal.
“If it ends up not hitting where you are, hits somewhere else, you might temporarily breathe a sigh of relief, but you’re still gonna think, ‘Man, there might be something to this climate change,” Limbaugh said. “Do not doubt me, with everything being politicized, of course it is an objective of some, not everybody, of course, but some of the people involved here.”
Even Big Water was in on the conspiracy, Limbaugh concluded, as people were stocking up on cases of bottled water for the storm that wouldn’t come when they could just use the water coming out of their taps…
Apart from praying that people won’t die because they believed this charlatan for everyone in the storm’s path, what’s on the agenda as we start the weekend?
Cermet
If you believe that bag of $hit and stay only to die – sorry but that is Darwin’s evolution in action; best for us all.
Baud
@Cermet: Those people cost us Florida. Just saying.

I am a terrible human but… I am unwilling to invoke protection from a Being I don’t believe in for Rush’s listeners, because the better outcome for my country and planet would be that…they don’t get to vote anymore.

@Cermet:
Have a thought for the poor people who are going to risk their lives trying to save the fools.

@Cermet: I was going to post something similar. No sympathy. None.

WTF does this even mean “the security nature of things”? Like he’s some sort of critical member of government instead of a bloviating gas bag.

I mean, there’ll be water coming out of the sky when the storm hits. What do you need bottled water for?/s
After this is over, if anyone dies because he told them not to evacuate, Limbaugh should be prosecuted for negligent homicide. Short of that, he needs to be drummed off the air.

@madmommy: Without Rush America wouldn’t be America! Fuck yeah!
Hey, now there’s a thought…

Wow, they are just REALLY paranoid at even a discussion of climate change, aren’t they? Even Pruitt was saying some nonsense about how bringing up climate change ‘belittled’ Floridians or something.
Gotta burn every last ounce of that sweet, sweet carbon, don’t we?

@Cermet: @TenguPhule:
Yeeeup – but alas, most of the fools who believe in Rush are elderly and have probably already reproduced, so it’s too late for Darwin awards. I do feel for those who did not vote, act, or speak up for pigheaded stupidity on climate for the last several decades but who will suffer nonetheless.
Gravenstone
My lament on the current track of Irma is that the damage to Limbaugh’s compound and Mar-a- Logo won’t be maximized. Although in an ideal world, only their (and other would be oligarchs ) property would be affected.

@Baud: Thanks.

Just learned my uncle, who lives in the Keys, has decided to ride it out. He’s getting up there in age, no longer drives, his wife (my step-aunt, as it were…his second wife, first one passed some time ago) doesn’t drive much either, and getting out by road is not an option.
Just hoping they stay as safe as they can.
TenguPhule
@Gravenstone:
In an ideal world, Sharknados would have already devoured Trump and Rush on CNN live feeds.

Many years ago I was in a situation when Rush was what was on the radio during the lunch break.
Early on Rush commonly railed against the rich and how they took advantage of working people. About how they paid too little in taxes.
Then Rush signed a very lucrative contract as he made it to the big leagues. The next day he was all about how taxes on the rich were too high and should be cut. For the next two or three days he dumped viciously on callers who took the position Rush had held only a day or two before. After a few days his listeners were all for tax cuts for the rich.
The rats followed the piper as he did a 180.

A bit O/T: I love and admire Martin Booman, I really do, but am incredibly tired of his constant drone of “I told you so,” “didn’t I say?,” “what did I tell you?,” “as I have said repeatedly,” and “if you will reread these many links to my previous articles.” It’s unbecoming. Not to sound like Sarah Huckabee Sanders talking about Trump’s tweets, but Martin’s posts should speak for themselves. A simple link should do the trick.
OTOH, he really is right, and has been.
Baud
@SiubhanDuinne: I’ve noticed that too. And I think it’s something he’s started in the past year or so. I don’t know what’s going on.
Frankensteinbeck
Limbaugh’s family has said they don’t even know if he’s actually conservative, because what they do know for sure is that he is utterly full of bullshit and lies constantly in every aspect of his life. The best they could say is that for a lot of that, he actually is joking. I don’t think that applies to his show, unless the joke is sadistic and it’s on his listeners.

Why is there a picture of Jaba on my screen?

@Baud: Clicks? Ka-ching!

@chris: Maybe. But it’s often in the body of the piece. Not the headline.

Here’s my message to the dittoheads:
Hey, dittoheads! Here’s your chance to prove to those lieberals that climate change and Irma are hoaxes! Show the lieberals you ain’t afraid of no hoax! Go chain yourself to the railing at the seawall, and take key and throw it as far as you can into the sea! That’ll prove to the lieberals that you ain’t afraid to prove that climate change is a hoax! You don’t even have to have your penis extension with you! You’ll show them!

I’ve heard that he once said “I”d be a liberal if there was enough money in it.”

@chris: Sorry, I get what you’re saying, bit after 2016, I’m done with stories about how the left has been right.
@TenguPhule: Very good observation.

@Angrifon:
I believe there are some very good and very determined people who have been working on that for awhile. The sponsors of Jabba the Rush have been constantly shamed for their financial support of this malignant cretin and Mr. Limbaugh is pretty much only sponsored by the lowest of the low and fellow grifters and scammers.

I’ve even started to notice times they’ve been wrong.
@TenguPhule: I’ve never been sane.

@Major Major Major Major: Putting aside anything to do with Hillary for a moment, way too many people bought into Trump’s faux economic populism and faux pacifism.
Major Major Major Major
@Baud: he didn’t make people who believe in white socialism feel like they had to choose between white (GOP) and socialism (Dems) for once.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@Baud: and putting aside his faux business, too many people bought into, and probably would again, the idea that we need to run this country like a business. It was stupid when it was said about Romney, when it was said about Perot, and launched into some kind of stratosphere of absurdity when it was said about the reality show host whose business was propped up by his father’s money and political connections, then TeeVee money
Major Major Major Major
@Baud: many people are idiots. Some of them are leftists.
Gravenstone
@Frankensteinbeck: I like to describe Limbaugh as the man who has failed at literally everything he’s ever tried – except run his mouth. Sadly, our society compensates people willing to tell others what they want to hear by stoking their prejudices and outrage all too well.

@Thoughtful David: Your comment and two others released.

Agreed. But they seem to have a more outsized role in the conversation than their numbers would warrant.
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Agreed. Although that I don’t see that as a leftist problem.
Thoughtful David
@Cheryl Rofer: Thanks.
Major Major Major Major
@Baud: some of that was played up by the media or poorly placed microphones, but yeah, the convention could have been better to say the least.

@Major Major Major Major: The media stuff is frustrating, but when Juicers talk about real people in their lives who are like that, that’s when it seems real and really depressing.

@Baud: it is real and depressing!

Me talking to my very sweet brother in the early 90s: You listen to Rush!!!??
Him, shrugging: There’s nothing else on the radio. Besides, he’s funny.
Me: But you know he’s lying, right?
Him: Sure.
Me talking to my no longer so sweet brother last year: Please tell me you didn’t vote for Trump.
Him: He’s not so bad.
Me: gasp
And that was our last exchange. Eff you, Rush. With an iron rake.
Arclite
Is it just me or do Rush and Alex Jones look like long lost brothers?

@SiubhanDuinne: I’ve also noticed that. Earlier this summer, right before taking several weeks off, he (Martin Longman, aka Booman) posted that he might not come back to blogging when he returned. Apparently enough people left good feedback and/or Paypalled him encouraging entrails, because he’s back.
I personally think he’s calling attention to his prognostication skills because (a) he’s one of the few who’s accurately called how Washington would actually go, and why, and (b) that should translate to an offer to join the Big Pundit Leagues, with a sinecure at Slate or Salon or CNN.com or wherever one aspires to end up.
Either way, I think he’s an extremely savvy comment(at)or about Beltway machinations.

@Mom Says I*m Handsome:
I don’t mind Booman pointing out when he was right because he also points out when he was wrong. Almost no pundit ever does that.
It may be a little unbecoming, but I don’t read it as boasting.
Besides, it would be way down on the list of things for Booman Tribune to fix. At the top would be kicking out some of the dumbasses in his comment section starting with that idiot with pretensions to propose poetry.

@madmommy: He’s afraid queer Antifa assassins from Seal Team Secks will intercept him en route and replace his Oxycontin with ecstasy and his Brooks Brothers with Tom Ford.

Relatives of any person who believed this charlatan and last thin loves because of it should start because of it should start a class action suit and put him out of business.
Another Scott
@SiubhanDuinne: I haven’t read Booman a lot, but I think I noticed a change in his tone after he lost his brother.
He seems to have more of an edge to his writing, as if he’s trying to get people to wake up before it’s too late. Or being sick of trying to be gently persuasive, and being more strident to try to get the point across quicker.
He’s a excellent writer. I’m sorry things have been so painful for him personally.
I’m glad WaMo picked him up. I hope he lands at a place where he’s happy and reasonably secure.
Cheers,
Scott.

Why does anyone listen to this bloated, Oxycontin-addled college dropout? He was a complete failure as a human being until he discovered he could sell hate to gullible Republican rubes who think you can cure diabetes by eating cinnamon.

@Bess: I remember Rush Limbaugh going off on Bill Clinton when NATO intervened in Serbia . We had no exit strategy! Democrats lead us into Vietnam! This could be another unending war! Look what happened to Captain Scott O Grady!
Years later, he shouted down callers who criticized the Bush administration over not having an exit strategy for Iraq or Afghanistan. Rush shouted “did we have an exit strategy in World WarII?!!”

Years ago, when Chile had a big earthquake that spawned a tsunami, the USGS predicted precisely when it would hit Oahu, and gave a min-max estimate of wave heights. Hawaii wisely prepared and the waves hit on schedule at the lower end of the height range, causing little damage. I was at a conference and predicted that Rush would spin it as Pointy headed scientists getting people worked up over nothing. And that’s what he did.
