Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

McCain & Murkowski are taking all calls from anywhere. Spoke with both their staff.

I’ve been calling McCain, Collins, and Murkowski every day.

Their offices have been receptive, even though I’m not from their states.

Good luck with reaching Portman. It’s not impossible but it takes persistence. Fortunately, as one of his constituents, I have plenty of time today, and lots of anxiety and anger to fuel me.

I know things are getting serious because the Autism Society sent out an email early this morning telling us to call our Senators. That’s in the knock-me-over-with-a-feather category. They hardly ever wade into anything remotely political, even though they are ostensibly an advocacy organization. Don’t want to risk upsetting any donors who are Republicans. Don’t care if they routinely upset the likes of me with their usual silence.

I’m back. The surprise today is that Portman’s DC office has a working voicemail box. That’s rare.

I was able to leave messages for everyone on the list on my first try except for Graham and Cassidy, who were busy signals. I’ll keep trying.

Thank you so much for posting that senators are accepting calls from others than their constituents.
I’ll melt their d@mn phones today!

    Thanks for this. I called:
    Graham
    Cassidy
    Murkowski
    McCain

Are you thinking we should be calling each and every person on this list, regardless of where we live?

You said that you were waiting for them to get a clue. You had expressed your frustrations about them.
    If they have caught on..

    @WaterGirl: +1 — my question too!

I’ve read that it’s counter-productive to call senators and congressmen that don’t represent you, but there seems to be differing schools of thought about this.
