Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

Giving up is unforgivable.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

In my day, never was longer.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Moore, Moore, Moore, how do you like it, how do you like it

What’s going to happen in Alabama tonight? I went through a stage of feeling bad that I usually rooted for the craziest Republican to win in every primary but after the very reasonable Graham and Cassidy plotted to kill thousands of Americans, I decided fuck it, we’re better off with the openly crazy than with the very serious Bobo-fellating types.

Strange would continue voting for everything McConnell said to. Moore may actually Freedumb Caucus Turtle’s ass and not vote for shit anybody puts forward. The Senate does not have enough total nutjobs to make any kind of coalition in the R party. And since none of the R Senators would ever vote for a D initiative, if we can’t get the D person over the line in AL then I say Moore is the less strange way to go.

Let enough of these guys go to the Senate that they work a secession via the legislative process. The capital can be in Texas or Alabama and they can build the biggest wall imaginable so their subjects (not citizens) can’t escape to the US for free health care.

Nutjobs like Moore will force Repub incumbents to retire to avoid a right flank attack during the Primary. Plus makes the minuscule potential for Repubs governing vanish if any of these get in the Senate or become a Governor.

As to the Fate of the Republic; until the Democratic Party can resume the challenging tasks of walking and chewing gum in parallel, the outlook is dire. FYI I am a lifelong, strong Democrat who gladly voted for Secretary Clinton, Al (Too Fat) Gore and my long time next door neighbor V.P. Mondale. And my former college professor Paul Wellstone.

Dems do not have a candidate problem; they have leadership, organizational and policy priority issues.

@dexwood: @dexwood: Well, thank you, dexwood, and just for fun I’ll give you this little essentially meaningless nugget from the old days. In ’79 Pete Rose came over to the Phillies – it was a really big story, the early days of free agency. So I’m there in spring training, the coverage is ridiculous, and one morning before a spring-training game in St. Pete, Annie Leibovitz shows up strolling around in front of the dugout. I recognize her from Rolling Stone, believe it or not, and I say, How are you doing? For some reason or another I mentioned I really liked Dave Marsh. She said yeah he’s a great guy, can I get a team picture? This was like the most comical thing a famous person ever said to me. The idea that a major league baseball team would get all organized for a team picture before a spring training game – no disrespect to Ms. Leibovitz – but just for anyone they didn’t know. And the only reason I go into this is because I don’t watch TV or ball games any more and apparently the players now line up on the baselines for the anthem. That’s some serious bullshit.
