Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

He really is that stupid.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

T R E 4 5 O N

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Celebrate the fucking wins.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

The snowflake in chief appeared visibly frustrated when questioned by a reporter about egg prices.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

Trump’s a gift that keeps on giving… like an overbred little dog that takes surreptitious dumps indoors, so you’re always tearing different rooms apart to find the source of the bad smell.

How and when should a black person in America protest? https://t.co/am8QPjKtsr pic.twitter.com/kxXCfVgAtl

Notice, in the clip below, how it’s also (still) okay to talk right over a woman asking an important question to which these good conservative men have no godsdamned answer…

Team TellUsMore, working really hard to justify that book deal…

Trump says that his NFL critique isn't about race. In private, per @GlennThrush and @maggieNYT, he admits it freely. https://t.co/sqENjhYOdf

— Jamil Smith (@JamilSmith) September 27, 2017

… Over the weekend, Mr. Trump, while with a small group of advisers in the dining room of his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., asked a few members what they thought of his attack on Mr. Kaepernick. The response, according to one Trump associate, was polite but decidedly lukewarm.

Mr. Trump responded by telling people that it was a huge hit with his base, making it clear that he did not mind alienating his critics if it meant solidifying his core support…

The president’s provocations are a real-time expression of his emotions in the moment and his feel for a crowd. More than anything, such fights are a reflection of his focus on what it takes to keep his restive populist base behind him, and a ritual of self-preservation intended to divert attention from other, more damaging narratives.

“He intuitively understands that making compromise with the Democrats is sort of the opposite of what he told his base he was going to do,” said Alex Conant, a veteran Republican consultant who was part of Senator Marco Rubio’s campaign team in 2016.

“It’s not a coincidence that the same week he did the DACA deal that he just flooded Twitter with a bunch of red meat for the base,” Mr. Conant added. “I think his fundamental problem is he needs to figure out ways to grow his base, and his instinct is instead to double down on what he’s already got. Whenever he tacks to the middle, his numbers tick up. But he just can’t bring himself to move beyond his base.”

That is not how Mr. Trump sees it…

Trump on his NFL comments to attendees at conservative leader dinner at WH tonight: “It’s really caught on. It’s really caught on."

— Jim Acosta (@Acosta) September 26, 2017

Well, it is a big hit with his in-every-sense base — and it’s getting ‘President’ Comment Section lots of attention! Is there, to him, a more important metric?

Pause for a moment to consider that this dubious assertion represents Trump's most notable political accomplishment in months. Sad! https://t.co/WCsWQ5ZYpL

So the DACA deal is real?

First, the vast breadth of casual “I wouldn’t use the n-word, but it makes me angry when people suggest black lives matter,” racism is disgusting, especially when you consider how freaking racist that is.

Second, let me try to make up for it with some schadenfreude. It may not be my preferred emotion, but I know it is popular here. Imagine the mood of the Kochs, right now, seeing Graham-Cassidy defeated and the reconciliation ticking away.

Oppressors never recognise a right time for the oppressed to complain. They and their sycophants (including those they oppress in other ways, alas) figure they’re doing people a favour by oppressing them, so how dare the oppressed ever complain?

I have decided on some minor modifications for The Girl: black pickguard screws matching the pickguard to replace the original white-metal ones, and a roller string tree to help her B and high-E strings stay in tune better. I’d also like to shield her cavities with copper tape, once I get (and learn to use) a soldering iron.

I may also get a new pickguard on which I can mount the neck pickup — on an Affinity Tele, it’s mounted to the floor of the cavity instead, which means that to adjust the pickup height I’d have to remove the pickguard. Or maybe get a drill and put holes in the OEM pickguard.

    @eclare:

Rumor is that Bannon was coming after him,

I realize Bannon is perhaps the most toughestest guy EVAH, but it would surprise not one iota were an RNC “voter edumacation” bus to accidentally jump the curb in his vicinity, and mow down pedestrians, of which he was one.

Well, actually, it would surprise me in two ways:
    1) The last time the Rethugs did any REAL “voter edumacation” was before I was born
    2) The day Bannon is seen anywhere in the vicinity of us peasants, i.e., pedestrians, is the day the Pinch-owned FTFNYT admits it screwed over Hillary.

So I guess I won’t need to re-up my nitro pills any time soon.

THIS^^^^ a lot. From what I have picked up in various comments from the anti-protest crowd, they are okay with protests as long as they don’t impact them, or virtually anyone else like them in any way whatsoever. Mailing a sternly worded [as long as it is not rude or insulting] letter is probably acceptable.
