Aside from a bunch of dirty dishes and linens that need to be washed and a couple beer bottles in the yard, the house survived the inaugural homecoming weekend. It was my classes 25th (if I had not dropped out and joined the army), so basically my entire pledge class was back. The house held. Also, there were about 30 people in the house at one point and it was manageable. So all in all, a success.
My friend Joelle was back, and she is kind of a cat whisperer, so I coralled Steve into a room so she could have some alone time (she had never met him). She emerged with this great pic:
I love it. He has the most amazing expressive eyes. They look like two homies just hanging out.
I am sick and have been since Friday so I see a lot of sleeping in my immediate future. Also, fuck Trump.

It looks like Steve is sending a distress signal. HALP, I has no idea who this lady is.
John Cole
@schrodingers_cat: No, that is his happy/curious look.

I foresee more selfies with Steve. He looks intrigued. Would be taking them himself, if he had opposable thumbs.
Patricia Kayden
Awww. So cute!! More please!

@Elizabelle:
You know he’s working on that.

For a good stress break (which pretty much means taking a break from Trump’s awfulness), I discovered some cute “but I don’t own a cat” videos which are adorable and funny. I so wish a cat would just show up on my doorstep one day.

John, I’m glad the reunion was a success, now take care of yourself.

Does Joelle comment here?

Steve looks like he knows perfectly well that he’s being photographed and lookin good.

@Patricia Kayden:
You always gotta keep an eye out…

Big Kiki is big! That Steve appears to be designed for hugging and petting.
Patricia Kayden
@debbie: Well, he can’t say that that cat didn’t give him ample warning. LOL.
Heidi Mom
@Patricia Kayden: That has happened to us, twice. They were/are both great cats (one still with us, one gone).
Villago Delenda Est
It’s Steve’s house. You’re just there as staff, Cole.
Kathleen
He looks very wise. I keep expecting him to say something.
StringOnAStick
I’m a total softie for long haired grey tabbies, Steve looks even more bobcatty than usual.
Cole probably has the cold I caught on Monday , along with two coworkers. I’ll be able to go to work tomorrow but I wish I didn’t need to. Hopefully I’ll feel better then.
We’ve had a mob of butterflies the last few days, something smaller than a Monarch with a many shades of orange and black pattern on top and with a silverish color on the underside of their wings, all busy collecting nectar from agastaches and salvias now that the hummingbirds have mostly headed south. Anyone else seeing this?
thruppence
@StringOnAStick: They may be Painted Ladies butterflies. We have delightful clouds of them here in Colorado.

@Patricia Kayden:
One of my coworkers and her husband lost both of their elderly cats to illness within a couple of months of each other.
A month or so after the second cat died, my coworker opened her back door to find three kittens standing there like, Oh hai! We hear you haz an opening for new kittehs. And they’ve stayed ever since.

Hey, John,
Congratulations on the homecoming. I get invited to the small liberal arts college I first attended, and was drafted out of, just as if I had stuck around and graduated. I don’t really remember many of the people I got to know, and the ones I remember probably don’t go to reunions. I am still close to one guy, we talked each other into dropping out to fight the war (against the VN war, to be more precise).
Glad Steve got to meet you cat-whisperer buddy.
Sounds like a great time was had by all.
rikyrah
That’s the first picture of Steve that hasn’t scared me. He looks almost sweet ?

@SiubhanDuinne (at some point in the indeterminate future to be known by my real name, Judith Mann Costello, but maybe not quite yet):
He knows where to get a set.
StringOnAStick
@thruppence: Yep, that’s them. I counted 15 Painted Ladies on the flowers in just one moment this afternoon (Golden, CO). I try to plant for wildlife and birds, especially hummingbirds so all these late blooming nectar sources are available for these lovely butterflies too.

@Patricia Kayden: We got one of our cats that way. We’d seen him and another cat kind of hanging around the neighborhood and were getting ready to adopt the other one, but it died before we could do so. Tikvah turned out to be the best cat we’d ever had, weirdly dog-like and such a sweetheart.
