Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

the 10% who apparently lack object permanence

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

To the privileged, equality seems like oppression.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

Republicans in disarray!

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Be a wild strawberry.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Usually wrong but never in doubt

So very ready.

On the Road and In Your Backyard

On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.

From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.

Submit Your Photos

Good Morning All,

This weekday feature is for Juicers who are are on the road, traveling, or just want to share a little bit of their world via stories and pictures. So many of us rise each morning, eager for something beautiful, inspiring, amazing, subtle, of note, and our community delivers – a view into their world, whether they’re far away or close to home – pictures with a story, with context, with meaning, sometimes just beauty. By concentrating travel updates and tips here, it’s easier for all of us to keep up or find them later.

So please, speak up and share some of your adventures and travel news here, and submit your pictures using our speedy, secure form. You can submit up to 7 pictures at a time, with an overall description and one for each picture.

You can, of course, send an email with pictures if the form gives you trouble, or if you are trying to submit something special, like a zipped archive or a movie. If your pictures are already hosted online, then please email the links with your descriptions.

For each picture, it’s best to provide your commenter screenname, description, where it was taken, and date. It’s tough to keep everyone’s email address and screenname straight, so don’t assume that I remember it “from last time”. More and more, the first photo before the fold will be from a commenter, so making it easy to locate the screenname when I’ve found a compelling photo is crucial.

Have a wonderful day, and enjoy the pictures!

My apologies folks, I’ve graduated to 24-hour mom-care and my aunt arrives tomorrow, so I’ve been otherwise absorbed, to put it mildly! I messed up again, so please accept this humble offering.

Special apologies to Ben Cisco, onboard or not. His pics struck a nerve, and I want to share that, but I can’t finish that writeup tonight/this morning. So I’m punting them to Tuesday. I will be home for a few days and will ensure they run as planned – I promise!

Today, pictures from valued commenter JAFD.

celiadexter, NotMax, Robin G’s S.O. (who’s bizcard I misplaced), Robin G and Tom Q (hope I got y’all right, shouldve been taking notes) at the meetup on Sept 1st at the Shakespeare on 39th St. Took a couple more pics, unfortunately had used my new smartphone’s camera only for still lifes, needed to practice with live models in dim light… Apologies. Consolation prize is pic taken on way home of tourist cliche…

Hope to see you folk again in future.

BTW, doth anyone else think that those Captcha ‘check all pictures with Street Signs’ are data collection for self-driving car projects ?

Tourist cliche…

Thank you so much JAFD, do send us more when you can.

Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.

One again, to submit pictures: Use the Form or Send an Email

Thanks to all. Hopefully I can get some rest and refreshed. Except for two 1hour visits Home to get clothes and briefly see my wife and two darling girl kitties, I’ve not left my mom’s in 10 Days. Hopefully the doctor will order some home health care and physical therapy to help her. She’s so weak and doesn’t leave bed except for the bathroom or shower. Cancer sucks and chemo isn’t for wimps!

Hoping she can get a long remission out of chemo. Please let it work.

    @Alain the site fixer:

I’m sure your Mom is getting the best of care. We took care of my dad as he recovered from breaking his hip while his chemo was working on him, so I know exactly how busy you are.

I would surf a little after he went to sleep in the evenings just to feel connected to the world a little bit. I used a free AOL CD to get connected on his phone line! Around 2000 IIRC.

Take of yourself too, you can’t help your Mom if you aren’t a little rested. Best of luck to you, Mom, Wife and kitties!! I’ll send some pics soon.
