Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

The revolution will be supervised.

Celebrate the fucking wins.

The snowflake in chief appeared visibly frustrated when questioned by a reporter about egg prices.

“A king is only a king if we bow down.” – Rev. William Barber

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

“Alexa, change the president.”

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

The willow is too close to the house.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

So much going on the past couple of days. I feel like I have neglected you all.

At any rate, big night of sport tonight- Pens are on, WVU plays at eight, there is apparently a baseball game of some importance. Also have company coming for dinner- Holly of the aneurysm and our neighbor Kim, and Tammy’s husband is having a guys night in Pittsburgh so he dropped her off, so I will be playing the role of Bosley with a bunch of ladies and five dogs and one LARGE cat.

Menu is a dry rubbed flank steak, new potatoes with herbs, parboiled broccoli, a tomato and green pepper salad, and for dessert I cored a couple apples and made a stuffing of cranberries, granola, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon and am baking them on fresh slice pineapple.

I’ll have someone else take pictures since my photography sucks.

At any rate, I will start blogging again soon. Just been in a damned funk.

John, you’tr a good cook. Since I am one-handed due to surgery (better today, I can tie my own shoes!) when it comes to cooking because of the wet cast factor, I merely served as the appreciative audience for beef stew with barley, mushrooms and red wine. John, I do not know if you have one of the new electric pressure cookers (Instapot is the brand name, I think), but Alice is working wonders with hers. Pork stew with green chilies and tomatillos, yum!

I have been cooking, yesterday I finally made my Diwali goodies, karanjis (turnovers with a fresh coconut filling) and chivda (kinda like a party mix with nut and pohe’ (beaten rice)). I also roasted japanese eggplant, nade stir fried baby bok choy with fresh shitake mushrooms, then I roasted split okra. Then this morning I made chicken curry, this evening lamb with potatoes Delhi style (Madhur Jaffrey recipe), spicy ground beef from a neighborhood farm store and chole’ (chickpeas).
    Now I am beat.
Tomorrow I will make tomato sauce for the entire month, tamarind and date chutney and fresh green chutney (more like pesto consistency) with green chilies, cilantro and some mint and ginger and of course fresh coconut. Will also make mango cranberry chutney and yogurt smoothie and lassi.

ETA: Your dinner sounds delicious, do share the pictures!

Successfully completed day one of my motorcycle safety class. Did not drop the bike or do anything else stupid and/or embarrassing!

The one thing I kept fucking up: instructor said to shift gears in a straightaway, pass a cone, downshift and then come to an abrupt stop using front and rear brakes. I did all that, but I was covering the front brake, and he told me not to until I completed the downshifting, but I could not get that through my head!

Vanity Fair reported that Scott Melker, a Penn classmate, wrote on Facebook, “Donald Jr. was a drunk in college. Every memory I have of him is of him stumbling around on campus falling over or passing out in public, with his arm in a sling from injuring himself while drinking. He absolutely despised his father, and hated the attention that his last name afforded him.”
Melker also described an alleged incident in which Trump showed up to his son’s dorm room to take him to a Yankees game. Trump Jr. was dressed in a Yankees jersey and when he opened the door to his father, “without saying a word, his father slapped him across the face, knocking him to the floor in front of all of his classmates. He simply said, ‘Put on a suit and meet me outside,’ and closed the door.” A spokesperson for the Trump family told Vanity Fair this story is “completely false.”

I’m sitting here watching the first Addams Family movie. Addams Family Values is up afterwards. I know know I’ve said it before, but mahn, this movie was RIDICULOUSLY well cast, wasn’t it!

Plotwise I thought it was rather thin. But the plot was just an excuse for setpiece jokes in the manner of the comic and as you say the actors were incredible, even the kids. (Didn’t everybody love Wednesday? How can a girl so young act so well?) They made every bit hysterical.
