Trump kills Obama rule aimed at protecting independent farmers from big food companies
10/24/17 06:00 AM EDT
The Trump administration is rescinding an Obama-era rule that would have made it easier for independent farmers to bring lawsuits against big food companies they raise chicken and other livestock for.
The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Grain Inspection Packers and Stockyard Administration last week withdrew an interim final rule a day before it was set to take effect. The rule aimed to make it easier for farmers to bring companies like Tyson Foods, Pilgrim Pride and Perdue to court over what they say are unfair, deceptive and retaliatory practices.

Myeshia Johnson is a very brave and outstanding young woman, exactly as her husband was. Anyone who watched her GMA interview could see that. Her beautiful smile when her soon-to-be-born daughter came up and when George S. mentioned how they met when they were six. You could see that she and her husband were in a real love affair. That disgusting pig squatting in the WH is going to attack her. I honestly think his evil minion Kelly is going to also. They are inhuman.

Kind of humiliating, I’d guess– but that’s the point.

Also, with Kelly, schrodingers_cat’s pointed out that he was a zealous and cruel enforcer of Trump’s immigration policy. I don’t know if it got good nationwide coverage, but here in California there were many stories about people being deported who were quiet and law-abiding, but who had committed minor violations years ago, or who were captured and deported while going to attend immigration hearings that were supposed to help them.

The expedited citizenship process was a big draw for this recruitment pool and they’ve just made their job a lot harder. @Brachiator: It should be remembered how this all got started. At a press conference a reporter asked Trump a question about why and the White House had not made a statement about the 4 soldiers killed in Niger over a week earlier. Instead of just fending it off with a statement like “waiting for initial DOD report on the incident, and do want to express our sorrow and heartache of the families who have lost these heroes” Instead, ignoring the actual point of the question, Trump decides he has to show what a great guy he is, particularly compared to the swarthy guy who held the office before him: “I felt very, very badly about that,” Trump said during a press availability in the Rose Garden. “I always feel badly. It is the toughest calls I have to make are the calls where this happens, soldiers are killed.”
“He then claimed that other commanders in chief hadn’t reached out to families of Americans killed in action, indicating he’d been told as much by the generals who serve in his administration.” http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/16/politics/trump-niger-green-berets/index.html

I saw the interview and I questioned whether I had seen a different one than they were commenting on. It was amazing how they twisted everything. Appalling.
Barbara
@sherparick: Like I said, he is a walking own goal factory. I don’t know that many narcissists or just haven’t been close enough to deduce the trait, but I worked with a woman who was narcissistic about her looks and personal appearance. She wore a different outfit every day and she was perpetually broke. She interpreted every statement about her attire, even neutral ones, as a compliment. “Where did you buy that outfit” was interpreted as “You look great in that outfit!” All the time. Trump hears every question about anything as a challenge to his image and he responds by defending himself in kind even when nearly anyone else who heard that question would have immediately come up with a suitable statement of condolence plus boilerplate of waiting for more information before saying anything definitive in public.
Barbara
@Wayne: With people like that I feel like there are two options: avoid entirely or never pass up the opportunity to point out that they are a burden to taxpayers and that they would probably be living in a hole in the ground if it weren’t for the government.
FlipYrWhig
@Wayne: Kelly greased the wheels for that to happen by depicting Congresswoman Wilson as a money-hungry showboat and thereby setting up the narrative that Trump was being slagged by race hustlers, which could then be expanded to taint the actions of a black war widow with a nonstandard first name. About the next word out of the mouths of the Trumplings on social media was “Sharpton.” Kelly didn’t have to go down that road, but he did, because he is contemptible. The other Republican who had a penchant for such stunts and got away with it for years was Rudy Giuliani.

He was forced to apologize on air and lamely claimed that he meant to only call her a “media whore.” He also got so caught up in Kelly’s talk about how the military honor the dead that he was able to shift all his attention from the woman who lost her husband to that ramrod representative of all that is white and right about America, General Kelly.
LongHairedWeirdo
Yes, but I’m waiting for the Republican outrage. Why hasn’t Donald Trump referred to the Niger attacks as terrorism? We know that all good GOPis are supposed to do so, if there’s even a hint of the possibility.
Brachiator
@sherparick:
This is the pattern. Trump always has to make it about himself, and how he is the greatest president ever. Then the lies and the disparagement of Obama and previous presidents.
Finally, Trump cannot admit fault or error, even over minor matters. Instead of saying, “I apologize if my words were clumsy and insufficient,” he has to mobilize his staff, the entire Republican Party, and his supporters in an effort to crush Congresswoman Wilson, the soldier’s widow, and anyone else who has the nerve to defy him simply by denying his perfection.
Trump imagines himself to be the God Emperor of America. This will not turn out well unless he is impeached or removed because he is unfit for the office.

@FlipYrWhig:
A lot of conservatives have a reflexive, super-defensive, inferiority complex where even innocuous questions will instantly be interpreted as you the latte-sipping sushi-eating Volvo-driving liberal elitist condescending to them, because that’s just how you people are. A lot of the media, and society in general, mentality of “both sides do it, but liberals are worse”/”Shape Of Earth: Views Differ” is rooted in the need to tiptoe around their precious feelings in order to avoid triggering that reflex. It never works, because as a blogger I like pointed out halfway through the 2008 election:
“Democrats can avoid saying that the red states are inferior to the blue ones as much as they like. But the red staters will continue to hear it. They’ll hear it because the voices inside their heads are saying it. And those voices are correct.”
The fact that Trump and Palin both have that massive insecurity and lash out because of it all the time is a huge part of what makes conservative voters relate to them and like them.
Miss Bianca
