Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Being the leader of the world means to be the leader of peace.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

All your base are belong to Tunch.

A Senator Walker would be an insult to the state and the nation.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

The willow is too close to the house.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

“Squeaker” McCarthy

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

This bleeding heart vine has taken over our backyard bar to the extent that we almost need a machete to come and go:

I hope everyone is having a pleasant evening, bleeding hearts notwithstanding. Open thread!

I think we have a much smaller plant that is not a vine that is also called bleeding heart. It’s one of the few reliable flowering shade plants.

I emailed efg a couple of times during the past week or so — since a few days after he went into hospital. Have not heard back, but unearthed home phone # just now and left voicemail message for him and mrs efg, both of whom I’ve met a couple of times IRL. Left detailed message, the gist of which was how much he is loved and missed by the jackals. Obviously I will report back if and when I get a return call. Just wanted to update y’all.

Just watched ABC news report about the DNC. They reported on Trump’s tweet about Elizabeth Warren’s statement saying that “he called her a name” in his tweet. Fuck that – he called her Pocahontas! The President of the United States used a RACIAL SLUR to describe a US Senator and they gloss it over as mere name calling. Most of the media never took Trump seriously, even when polling running up to Iowa and New Hampshre showed him to be the leader of the pack. And he then started winning contests, they still didn’t take seriously.

And now that he is President, they still do not take him seriously.

They think he won’t do what he says he wants to do.

They so badly want a normal President, they overlook his total assault on all our political norms and the norms of his office.

    I saw Thor:Ragnorak last night.
It was really good. I give it a def A. Best of the Thor films hands down!! Def in my top 10 films of the MCU!

Hela!!!! Hela good! My crush on Mark Ruffulo continues. Chris Hemsworth has risen up my list of “hot actors named Chris” (hasn’t quite edged out Chris Evans just yet, cause I love me some Cap on/off screen, he’s HAWT and his political…def Dem!). Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie!!! Get her back for some more action. And finally Jeff Goldblum!! I mean what geek girls heart isn’t already head over heels for Goldblum!!! He was awesome!!! Oh and Tom Hiddleston is still perfect as Loki

Next up is Justice League, but I can almost guarantee u it won’t be as “fun” as Thor…but i want it to at least be as good as Wonder Woman, but we’ll see. i’m in it all for Wonder Woman, Aquaman (Jason Mamoa???) and that Flash kid (Ezra Miller seems really cool)

Just talked to mrs efg. Not much to add except for personal connection. Wifi in his rehab room sucks but she said he may call me in a day or two. Dialysis back on track. Jeopardy daughter, SIL, and most amazing granddaughter in the world joining them for Thanksgiving.

Chicken potstickers with green salad and cantaloupe. Fig infused balsamic vinegar makes a great dipping sauce.

    Great news about efg!

Ick. Parks & Resorts assholes are the worst. They need a serious house-cleaning over there from what I’ve read in the papers (I have zero inside knowledge!), but it’s not going to happen anytime soon.

It’s early for a presidential candidate to emerge but it is going to be hard to get the message out when one does.

Trump sucks up all the media oxygen whether it is good or bad, it’s hard for anyone else to get a word in.

Of course they have their own media network and have had that for years now but the so called mainstream media are so overwhelmed chasing shiny objects, it will be hard for anyone to get any sort of message out.

The problem is that it’s not being restricted to Parks & Resorts; they’re getting the rest of the company involved. Blacklisting reporters from the local paper because they shine a light on your shady business practices is nasty.

I have a bleeding back. (Content Warning). I got a pimple that became a lump, right under my bra strap, in the middle of my back, right where I couldn’t really reach it. Almost two weeks ago, it burst in the shower, and despite my best efforts became infected. Turns out I shouldn’t have bothered, because it went really deep (bra strap and all). Oh, well, the doctor has been super nice, I’m on antibiotics, but now I have a wound that needs to be cleaned out and repacked everyday. At least there isn’t a copay for wound cleaning. But I am never going to hear the word repack without a twinge.

Jackals, if you know something should be looked at, get it looked at, no matter how much other shit is going on in your life. Also, glad to hear Thor is good, it’s playing down the street, think it will be a good pick me up/distraction.

@Eric S.: One note: something that I’ve found is that companies who don’t want to sell on Amazon will still list it there, but put a far away availability date on it. Look around and you may find the manufacturer or distributor who actually does sell it on line. Or a list of stockists where you might find someone to ship.

@lamh36: The problem, as I see it is that they can no longer assume audiences know who Poirot is. So Branagh has his tie akilter, rather than the slight perspiring that was such a jolt with Suchet. I watched through all the Poirot episodes after the election, kept me sane, but I did have to explain the character and show to the students at work.

Our neighborhood has power back after 5 days. All the things that were aggravating in the house suddenly seem not so bad next to the comfort of bright light, heat, hot water. TV. Yesterday much food in big freezer (still frozen but ready to be used) went to the soup kitchen, which I should do more often.

At the end of today a plumber came in and put together our bath faucets in 5 minutes — we’ve been without any water except for the kitchen sink for > 6 months, through a strange twisting journey with a carpenter. Two weeks ago, just as we thought it was ending, he could not stop them leaking and thought we might have to replace. He wanted to try this and that; I was calling vintage parts places and fighting with my gentle, tolerant-to-the-bone partner about the carpenter.

I was very close to cracking up. Turned out that a piece the carp. thought was decorative was actually the piece that is rotated until you get a balance between no leaking from the stems and being able to turn the faucets on. Tonight we have a bath tub and shower again.

Leave town tomorrow for music with friends and then a party. Last year this get together fell 3 days after the election and we were all in shock. This year, days the first indictments, seems like we are circling toward relief.

@SFBayAreaGal: I was in Oban in 2011 for the Scottish Six-Day Orienteering Festival. Six days of competitions, with a day off in the middle. I got a package deal, ticket on the ferry to Mull, a chartered bus from Cragnure to Fionnphort, then a small boat to Staffa. Some time on Staffa to explore Fingal’s Cave, then the boat came back and took us to Iona. A couple of hours to explore Iona, then the ferries and bus back to Oban.

I sat in on a presentation on Global Warming and CO2 and one of the points that was made was this:

We can expect vining plants to grow much faster due to the increased presence of CO2 in the atmosphere
and the increase in heat and moisture. Trees and large shrubs of course would also grow faster but,
due to their slow growth nature, we wouldn’t readily notice it.

But plants that vine are not subject to needing to grow “in place” and we will notice their increased growth
    and much more rapid spread.

    It is yet, another sign.
