Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

I hope to be a lot happier than I was a year ago. Early indications in VA look promising. Looks like Northam’s got it. Hope we flip the lege as well.

Woohoo! A shiny new thread to watch y’all track this so I don’t have to :D

EDIT I guess the big prize has pretty much already been claimed, but let’s take back some legislatures!

Handy article from Weigel–hour by hour election night across the country. I’d forgotten about Chaffetz’s seat in Utah.

I sure hope so. I can’t stand another full year of deep funk. A little hope would be nice. Joisey is too easy. We need to win one of these nail biters like VA.

Sicko Drumpf asks CIA to push disgusting Seth Rich conspiracy theory.

At the urging of President Donald Trump, CIA Director Mike Pompeo met last month with a former U.S. intelligence official who advocates a fringe theory that the hack of the Democrats during the election was an inside job and not the work of Russian intelligence, the former official told NBC News.

    ***

Binney told NBC News that Pompeo informed him that the CIA director took the meeting at the urging of the president.

    ***

He has also been a frequent guest on Fox News and has often been cited by Breitbart News, two right-wing outlets to which Trump pays close attention.

Binney told NBC News he believes Trump learned about his theory by watching his recent Fox television appearances.

So, let me ask this question before the results are known. I’ll keep asking until I’m convinced it’s irrelevant:
How did the Russians hack this election?

  11. 11.

    Mike J

    November 7, 2017 at 7:53 pm

@Spanky: Well, there were hundreds of vote suppression tweets on twitter today, which of course Jack and his little friends ignored.

Still haven’t figured out how Northam rigged the primary though.

I asked on the last thread about the House of Delegates. Looking at results so far, the Dems look like they can pick up between 10-15 seats. I think that would be a fantastic showing. Anyone able to tell what impact it would have?

@NotMax: Charlottesville is at 86/12 so far, but only 2 out of 10 precincts have reported. Fairfax is at 2 to 1, and that is incredible. Given how big it is it tends to be more like 57/43. Even Loudoun is at 59/39. Arlington is at 79/19. I am still angry at the Gillespie ads. They were racist and noxious, horrible.

Damn! Had a crapton of work today that lasted well into the evening and was scared to check the news about election results tonight for fear of not being able to sleep, but hey! It’s lookin’ good overall, esp. in Virginia.

Remember, this was an off-off-cycle election. Dems were supposed to whiff it big time, but here we are. God, I hope this has every GOP congressperson placing a recurring order for extra-absorbent Depends on Amazon tonight. Especially given how apocalyptically horrible they have to know their tax bill is. Be afraid, GOP Congresscritters. Be very afraid.
