Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

The words do not have to be perfect.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Books are my comfort food!

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

I just cannot understand how delusional elected Republicans must be. Also, how much I underestimated their stupidity and cravenness. And I didn’t think I’d been very generous on either of those measures.

One party in this country simply isn’t. It is a suicide cult with the tattered trappings of a political movement not completely removed yet.

They have gotten where they are by decades of lying with no thought as to what to actually do with power besides line their own pockets. They have painted themselves into a corner: they can either do the right thing and get rid of Trump, enraging the nutballs they have encouraged over the years; or they can stay with the idiot traitor and get pulled under with him later. Plus, they know what they’ve done to get there, they probably don’t know what other have done, and they are in no good position to endure much real scrutiny.

Since it is easier every day to go along and deny and stick their heads in the sand, hope that maybe he’ll flop over dead of a heart attack or something else magical will save them, they’ll do that. It’s only when congresscritters losing their seats and getting arrested scares them more than the howling mobs that something will happen.

It’s a safe bet that if the Post found four, there are more out there. Many very understandably would not want to come forward. When he says things like “I didn’t generally prefer teenagers” or “I never dated anyone without their mother’s permission,” of course, you know he did exactly what these women claimed he did. Of course, I never thought they were lying. What motive do any of these women have to upend their lives, to face anger and even retaliation, for nothing? They didn’t try to contact him first to see if he would pay them to shut up. I think it would be better if Jones won, but damn, Republicans deserve to have Moore hung like an anvil around their necks. Legally, they probably could move it, even at this late date. Probably, though. Absentee ballots are already being mailed out, and the logistics become more and more difficult with each passing day. For instance, do you void any absentee ballots from the current lot and send out new ones with Not Moore on the ballot? If so, what happens when someone sends in one of the original set?

Here’s the thing…these types of incidents are NOT about “attractiveness”…in fact far from it…it’s about these people in power thinking because of that power they can sexually harrass or even out right assault ANY woman, just by them being a woman.

Don’t matter what you look like…some men just see “woman” and therefore think it’s ok to say shit to you just because. And I’d also say that when you are a woman considered “outside” the beauty spectrum…some men thinks that make you are even more likely to be susceptible to the harassment…

Hello all, I’m mostly a hardcore lurker around these parts, but I want to make a shameless fundraising plug for a friend’s knitting business, where she creates and sells knitting patterns. I’ll let her explain:

This [fundraising] campaign will [help] promote my gansey knitting kits and patterns. They’re the only US-made gansey project kits available, and I want to share them with knitters outside of my farmers’ market circle. This project will also finance the development of 2 more historical sweater patterns that only exist in 19th-century photographs. Some unknown woman worked hard to create them, and I want knitters and non-knitters alike to know their stories.

If you’re interested in what she’s doing, you can check out her campaign page.

In addition to her knitting, she’s also extremely active in animal rescue. She works for People United for Pets who bring van loads of cats and dogs from southern California shelters to the Seattle area. She has a daughter, 2 dogs, and 2 cats in her 2 bedroom apartment and still takes in dogs and cats from the rescue. She often gets the difficult dogs to work with to make them more adoptable and any pregnant dogs or cats seem to make their way to her. In short, she’s an all-round awesome person.

The Crying Nazi had a court appearance the other day

His supporters, known for their fashy haircuts and white polos and khakis, coordinated new outfits this time. About a dozen of them lined the courtroom’s benches wearing black, some dressed head-to-toe in the color.

But this part of the story made me laugh out loud

Some of the white nationalists in town may have found their cars towed when they left court. Sources say the church where they parked had the vehicles removed.

Yup. Brett Ratner harassed Ellen Page because he knew she was a lesbian, not despite it. And some men can’t stand to look at a person like Rebel Wilson and know that she’s self-confident and mouthy. They feel like she needs to be taken down a peg, so they try to do it.

It’s morning in Vietnam, and Trump is tweeting.

    * Met with President Putin of Russia who was at #APEC meetings. Good discussions on Syria. Hope for his help to solve, along with China the dangerous North Korea crisis. Progress being made.

    * When will all the haters and fools out there realize that having a good relationship with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing. There always playing politics – bad for our country. I want to solve North Korea, Syria, Ukraine, terrorism, and Russia can greatly help!

    * Does the Fake News Media remember when Crooked Hillary Clinton, as Secretary of State, was begging Russia to be our friend with the misspelled reset button? Obama tried also, but he had zero chemistry with Putin.

    * Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me “old,” when I would NEVER call him “short and fat?” Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend – and maybe someday that will happen!

Looks like his handlers had the right idea when they wanted to end the trip before the APEC meeting.

I’ve also always felt that a real intel agent, even if retired, doesn’t keep bragging about his clearances and doesn’t end arguments by saying that if you knew the classified stuff he knows, you would agree with him.

That said, I tend to doubt that Trump has been an agent of Russian influence since 1987, although that is about the time he started going public about Russia. That could also have to do with that being about the time he was getting more into the news. OTOH, at this point I would not be excessively surprised if that turned out to be the case.
