Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I was promised a recession.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

In my day, never was longer.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Republicans in disarray!

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

“More of this”, i said to the dog.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Have at it.

Had another good dinner- we made pork chops, mushroom risotto, a cauliflower dish, and a spinach/beet/goat cheese salad. Tammy is a better cook than I am. For dessert I cored a couple apples and sliced up a pineapple and baked it with a brown sugar/butter/raisin/cinnamon/walnut mix. Yummy.

Now sitting here watching the Steelers with Lily and Samantha.

A lot of you got pissed because I said Franken should resign. Maybe I was too hasty, but I’m happy with how things seem to be playing out. I don’t understand why the Senate needs to investigate something that happened before someone was a Senator, but Franken called for it, so whatever.

We’re about to bathe Samantha and Steve (separately) so I will put up some pics in a bit.

I don’t understand why the Senate needs to investigate something that happened before someone was a Senator,

I never understand why employers are supposed to take the place of the justice system. I thought it was stupid when people wanted to ban Michael Vick from the NFL after he did his time in prison, and I think it’s stupid that the NFL should suspend that jerk from Dallas after he committed a felony.

When people commit crimes, arrest them, try them, send them to prison.

Dolt 45 administration’s rah-rah for coal exhibit in Bonn (predictably) lays a giant egg.

The UK and Canada have launched a global alliance of 20 countries committed to phasing out coal for energy production.

Members including France, Finland and Mexico, say they will end the use of coal before 2030.

Ministers hope to have 50 countries signed up by the time of the next major UN conference in Poland next year.
    [snip]
Already, the move away from coal in the UK has been rapid. Around 40% of electricity was still being generated from coal in 2012 but in April this year the UK had its first full day without coal power in 135 years. Source

    Canada’s on a roll.

Canada is open to a Mexican proposal to review the North American Free Trade Agreement every five years instead of terminating the deal automatically if it is not renegotiated, as the United States has demanded, two government sources said on Thursday. Source

A somewhat sad situation at work today. We have this pond which is home to 4 ducks (and close to 100 turtles, but that’s another story), and the ducks had been paired off nicely. One pair was a male and a female, the other was two males. However, it looks like the homosexual pair had a nasty breakup, because there’s only one of the two left, and I guess the other one has been exiled to another pond or something. The lone male looks kind of lonely now without his companion.

I guess that’s what they get for joining in such an unholy union.

Let’s see – whose adult children’s pastimes might this affect?

With barely contained enthusiasm, Safari Club International (SCI) announced on its own initiative today that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has reversed critical elephant protections established during the Obama administration, allowing imports of elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia.…

The United States has listed African elephants under the federal Endangered Species Act, and hunting trophies can only be imported if the federal government finds that killing them positively enhances the survival of the species. Under the prior administration, FWS made the eminently reasonable decision that Zimbabwe – one of the most corrupt countries on earth – was not managing its elephant population in a sustainable manner. Government officials allegedly have been involved in both poaching of elephants and illegal export of ivory tusks. Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe even celebrated his birthday last year by feasting on an elephant.
    [snip]
Notably, an FWS decision to allow imports of elephant trophies from Zimbabwe is legally required to be published in the Federal Register, and no such formal decision has yet appeared. That SCI, the largest pro-trophy-hunting lobby group, announced this decision suggests an uncomfortably cozy and even improper relationship between trophy hunting interests and the Department of the Interior. I’m having quite a time with my Color Guard Director He made the unilateral decision to switch from wooden to poly rifles. Which, nevermind the cost difference between the two, but it is a major expense to buy a new one, period.

And this is doubly vexing because I am also a Sponsor, so I am paying for a lot of the rifles for people in our scholarship and mentorship program.

Theres a time when you should allow the Director autonomy as a Member, but the Director owes a duty to the Sponsor to safeguard the tradition. So I can’t decide who should defer.

Cole: Forgive my presumption saying this, but it think perhaps you’ve simply yet to hone your political reflexes vis a vis the GOP, where its utter political destruction as a national power is ground zero of your politics. You were raised a republican in a very conservative state, and you’ve come a long way in a very short period of time. It was less haste on your part, then, than a simple failure to anticipate the inevitable calls by republican party shits to exploit the decent (albeit initial) reactions of people like you that Franken resign. In their ceaseless struggle to kill our democracy, you set yourself up to be played by the bastards, is all. Live and learn.

Investigating Franken for things before he held office seems very stupid, but at the same time it lets Dems put Trump’s past assaults and harassment back into the news. It seems logical to me that with so many Franken videos on the internet and stories scattered everywhere, Franken has been expecting the dirt to be used at some point. Seems reasonable that Republican whips already had notes on him and phone numbers written down in the books they keep on people’s pressure points.

There’s millions and millions of dollars in play with the tax breaks. An anti-abortion win in there too. Rich Rs will literally sign off on murder if needed to get so much money. Franken knows that. He’s a tough smart angry player, not a baby. Millions of dollars at stake–harassment and bullying tolerated all through the culture– no one’s surprised there is usable dirt on both Dems and Repubs. I suggest it was going to happen in some form even without Weinstein. It’s hard criminals playing for high stakes.
