Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

A Senator Walker would also be an insult to reason, rationality, and decency.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

A Senator Walker would be an insult to the state and the nation.

Americans barely caring about Afghanistan is so last month.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

The words do not have to be perfect.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Meanwhile, on Planet Repub…

Proof we’re living inside a graphic novel: Omarosa, the most prominent black woman in Trumpworld (sorry Rayon and Cubic Zirconia) gets fired the same day black women snatch a U.S. Senate seat like a loose wig off Trump and Bannon.

— Joy Reid (@JoyAnnReid) December 13, 2017

On Omarosa's exit: I just talked to sources who tell me Omarosa was let go yesterday and that she was escorted off of the White House grounds by security. They say she is now calling friends saying that she left voluntarily because her year anniversary was coming up.

That’s what I don’t understand. They’ll get the giant tax cut for rich people no matter if they oppose Trump or not because the low quality hires in the Trump Administration are wealthy.

They could have both- the tax cut they all sold their souls for AND opposing Trump occasionally- which would be the best of both things for them but they don’t. Oppose Trump. On anything. Just natural bootlickers, or what?

In case this hasn’t been covered already, “even the liberal” USA Today has had it with Trump.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Tuesday dismissed the president’s smear as a misunderstanding because he used similar language about men. Of course, words used about men and women are different. When candidate Trump said a journalist was bleeding from her “wherever,” he didn’t mean her nose.

And as is the case with all of Trump’s digital provocations, the president’s words were deliberate. He pours the gasoline of sexist language and lights the match gleefully knowing how it will burst into flame in a country reeling from the #MeToo moment.

A president who would all but call Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand a whore is not fit to clean the toilets in the Barack Obama Presidential Library or to shine the shoes of George W. Bush.

In Burns’s account, he was standing behind Trump, who was seated at the Resolute desk in the Oval Office, when he noticed a white spider the size of a half-dollar making its way up the president’s back.

“I just thought I was dreaming,” recounted Burns in a telephone interview. “Is that really a spider running up the back of the president of the United States?”

It was. Burns, for the record, hates spiders, but didn’t see any other choice but to step in. Before the spider got to the president’s neck, Burns whacked it — and Trump — with his bare hand.

    I haven’t seen this before:

In Alabama, recounts are mandatory when there is a margin of 0.5% or less between candidates. At the time of this writing, Jones leads More by 1.5% — nearly 21,000 votes — with 100% of the state’s precincts having reported their totals.

Since the margin is currently higher than 0.5%, the state would not pay for a recount effort, meaning Moore would have to pay for it himself. Unfortunately for Moore, even if he were willing to pay the costs, it looks like he might not be allowed to pay for a recount to begin with, as Alabama law forbids individuals who have sought federal office to pay for them.

The only thing remotely interesting about her is Trump’s need to surround himself with people he is familiar with

He needed to be able to point to her and say “You see, I’m very popular with The Blacks.”

But it would be a lie. Like every other word out of his mouth.

There are no sane black people who ever thought, “Yeah, Trump’s an asshole, but I’m glad that he’s got Omarosa to advise him.”

She was a nobody with unlimited access to the president who filled his head with conspiracy theories, fed their mutual sociopathy and wounded inner toddler selves while coasting in a $180k job. Her being gone is one more toxic voice not in his ear.

This is no victory at all. The most toxic voice in Trump’s ear is the one put there by his own father years and years ago. Trump deliberately surrounds himself with the worst people. He feeds on them. They sustain him.

And she never had unlimited access to the president. Don’t confuse her with Ivanka. She was only indulged when summoned.

Omarosa was booted out. Big freaking deal. Trump is like Walder Frey in “Game of Thrones,” when Catelyn Stark tried desperately to rescue her son from eminent demise.

Catelyn Stark: “On my honor as a Tully, On my honor as a Stark! Let him go, or I will cut your wife’s throat!”
    Walder Frey: “I’ll find another.”

Trump will easily fill Omarosa’s slot with that of another toady.

I can’t speak for the AA community but the fact of the matter is that the community is blamed for the appearance, actions, and words of any high profile black person. They were rightfully insulted and angered by Omarosa’s ridiculous assumption of a role in the white house given that she represented a humiliating step back frim the many talented AA people who have served in previous administrations. Its not because AA posters are trivial or misunderstanding that Omarosa and the firing are a sideshow. Its that they do understand.

    You’re right. You can’t.

but the fact of the matter is that the community is blamed for the appearance, actions, and words of any high profile black person.

Omarosa is not a high profile black person. She is just another reality TV show buffoon plucked by Trump to be one of his court jesters.

There is no reason to take Omarosa’s ouster seriously, no more than any Italian American gives a shit about the ouster of Scaramucci after a day and a half. And he was more of a insignificant asswipe than Omarosa. You are welcome to defend his importance to Italian Americans as “high profile.”

I reject the idea that just because someone black pops up on TV and is associated with Trump, that somehow, for some reason that person has to be accorded any kind of recognition. Nobody would do it of anyone of any other race. It’s bullshit.

They were rightfully insulted and angered by Omarosa’s ridiculous assumption of a role in the white house given that she represented a humiliating step back frim the many talented AA people who have served in previous administrations.

WTF. Are you insane? The Trump administration is a cesspool of grifters, liars and thieves. Every fucking one of them. It transcends race and gender.

Omarosa doesn’t represent a goddam thing. Every fucking weasel in the Trump Administration represents a step back for humankind. It is absurd for anyone, black, white or indifferent to pay attention to any of these fools. The only question is when any of them will be either fired or indicted.

To try to single Omarosa out for anything but ridicule is a waste of time.

    @ruemara:

Keep telling yourself that. Every bit of influence counts.
