Okay, this was good. Just saw the ad where the Allstate Mayhem guy gave up on his resolution to be safe because America wasn’t keeping its resolutions.
@Sab: nice job for 50 yrs later. Would ‘alma’ need to be plural also? To teh google I go.
As with most words borrowed from Latin, there is the traditional Latin plural and the English version. The Latin plural for alma mater is almae matres. The English plural is alma maters. Not surprisingly, the English version is vastly preferred.
In some cases, it may be used for a school’s song. When referring to the song, it is capitalized Alma Mater, as any song title would be.
@Sab: I’d go for “alma maters” but if you did want to go all Latin-y you’d need to use “almas matres” in the accusative plural, because it is the direct object of the sentence. Only “my” would be in the genitive. And you’d need to decline the adjective “alma” as well, if you were declining “mater.”

Whose bright idea was it to split the screen into 3 panels during tonights game? That fact the frigging announcers won’t STFU with their barrage of unceasing yakety-yak is bad enough, but they also wrecked the videotaped memories of the players by hogging the screen with them, too. For crying out loud, who wants to watch announcers WATCH the game as they broadcast? Who? I must be naive, I woulda thought the SEC would have owned the SEC network…!?
What’s the score? I can’t get cable, just broadcast. Title games and national championships should be required to be on a free channel, like NBC, CBS, even Fox.
Who is it that has Tony Romo doing commentary on NFL games? He’s really good at it, knows the game, the technical bits, explains things without too much jargon, lively, expert, not inclined to favor one team over another.
I think anyone who schedules that former Dallas QB whom I do not like to cover Cowboys games should be kicked hard where it hurts. That’s just wrong. No one plays a good game against his former team, never. And he sucks at commentary compared to Romo.

@J R in WV: Romo is good. Aikman carries his prior loyalties with him.
@Steve in the ATL: UCF beat the team that beat Bama for the SEC West, and the SEC as a whole was decidedly not All That in bowls this year. The whole Strength of Schedule thing is built on a foundation of sand year over year. YMMV.
OK, I found a box score that is live updated. So I see Bama got a touchdown. But so did Ga.
I’m rooting for the Ga bulldogs. Just can’t do it for Alabama, not at all. The only state lower than Alabama in my view is Mississippi, where wife and I lived for 9 or 10 months, back in 1972-3. Still stone cold racist back then. Full of hate, even in the library. TL;DR some day later.

Your one note rhetoric is tiresome. I’m going back to watching two heavyweights play for the actual national championship.
I agree about Aikman, only QB I liked less was in Denver. Mr. Arrogant. They may be a tie, really.

Dawgs got hosed… refs missed at least 4 calls that went against the Dawgs, and all of them affected the outcome. Sorry, Betty. I’m an old Husker alum (yeah, we’ve fallen on hard times, in my time there, we won back-to-back national titles, 1970-71), so I didn’t have a real favorite, but I hate to see a team that outplays the other team lose, especially because of poor officiating, and that’s what happened tonight.
178.

Between the Dawgs abandoning their offense late and the officials’ blindness (my favorite was missing the facemask because it morphed into a horsecollar), UGA lost their chance.
The Bama Mulligan pays off again.

@Mr Stagger Lee: I vaguely recall this setup being the same for a few years running.
J R in WV
@Mr Stagger Lee:
And he sucks at commentary compared to Romo.
grandpa john
@Duane: Nah all they need is a couple more no calls by officials looking straight at an an Alabama player using the face mask to make a tackle
Omnes Omnibus
@J R in WV: Romo is good. Aikman carries his prior loyalties with him.
Omnes Omnibus
Hey Raven, how is your evening going?
dr. bloor
@Steve in the ATL: UCF beat the team that beat Bama for the SEC West, and the SEC as a whole was decidedly not All That in bowls this year. The whole Strength of Schedule thing is built on a foundation of sand year over year. YMMV.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Omnes Omnibus:
UCLA?
J R in WV
OK, I found a box score that is live updated. So I see Bama got a touchdown. But so did Ga.
I’m rooting for the Ga bulldogs. Just can’t do it for Alabama, not at all. The only state lower than Alabama in my view is Mississippi, where wife and I lived for 9 or 10 months, back in 1972-3. Still stone cold racist back then. Full of hate, even in the library. TL;DR some day later.
Omnes Omnibus
@J R in WV: 20-10 GA, 5:15 left in the 3rd.
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
This is about as tight a game as I expected. Not thrilled about the score but plenty of time left. C’mon defense!
ThresherK
@J R in WV: TuneIn radio app may get you the ESPN audiocast.
The Dangerman
Is Hurts, um, hurt? I wasn’t paying attention and putting in a Frosh with almost no experience is surprising if not forced by injury.
Duane
Wasn’t dump supossed to give out his press awards tonight? I always enjoy seeing him confirm his idiot credentials.
Steve in the ATL
@dr. bloor: SEC had two teams in the playoff, which moved all their other teams down one in bowl match ups. UCF had a great season and should be damn proud of it, but that’s nothing like playing a power 5 conference schedule.
Your one note rhetoric is tiresome. I’m going back to watching two heavyweights play for the actual national championship.
J R in WV
@Omnes Omnibus:
I agree about Aikman, only QB I liked less was in Denver. Mr. Arrogant. They may be a tie, really.
Thanks! I found an updating play-by-play at the NCAA.com. Notice it’s a dot.com !!
Thought they called it a non-profit???
Also saw on the NCAA page that WVU is ranked #2 in roundball, which is unusual. Best since Jerry West was on that team!
Betty Cracker
@Duane: He couldn’t even get his shit together for a fake awards event on time. He tweeted something yesterday about pushing it back because of “interest.”
Duane
@grandpa john: Yeah, that was a bad no call. I just want a close game, which it is now. Also, bring on the Payne!
Betty Cracker
Jayzus! What a game!
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
Three minutes, tie score.
Jackie
@Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant): GO DAWGS!!!
James E. Powell
This is really a painful to watch collapse by Georgia. They need a miracle.
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
@Jackie: ROLL TIDE!
Jackie
@James E. Powell: An OT will be the miracle.
Jackie
@Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant): Hopefully OT
Omnes Omnibus
Golly.
Steeplejack (phone)
Wow. Overtime. Did not see that coming.
Jackie
@Jackie: And Bama chokes the FG!!!
OT!!!
James E. Powell
@James E. Powell:
And maybe they just got one.
Betty Cracker
I can’t believe he missed that kick! ?
Japa21
Quite a game. Apparently neither team wants to win.
?BillinGlendaleCA
UGA does seem to like OT games.
The Dangerman
Oh my.
ETA: Poor kicker, he had a chance to never buy another round in Alabama. Instead….
Leem
@James E. Powell: and a miracle appears.. Two missed FG
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
Wow. Overtime.
Jackie
Hopefully, a Georgia vs Okla replay!!!! Gooo Dawgs!!!
Steeplejack (phone)
@James E. Powell:
Miracle delivered! (At least to get into OT.)
James E. Powell
Cannot believe that Georgia still thinks they can run up the middle against that line.
Since the middle of the 3rd Q, the Georgia play-calling has been stunningly horrible.
I cannot throw up enough.
The Dangerman
Ms Cracker is correct; UGA kicker IS hot!
Japa21
Can’t allow a sack like that. Amazing he made the kick.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Japa21: That’s what they said about the 1996 UCLA-U$C game, went to 2OT with UCLA winning 48-41.
Omnes Omnibus
Raven and SteveintheATL. Sorry.
Japa21
@Omnes Omnibus: ditto
Betty Cracker
Booooo! Oh well. At least the “FUCK TRUMP” kid is happy.
Steeplejack (phone)
That was, uh, sudden.
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
@Betty Cracker: Scarborough (not THAT one) was the guy. Thrilling game. Sorry for the Dawg fans.
Duane
The happiest man in the USA? Alabama’s field goal kicker.
The Dangerman
Well, shit. Sorry all Dawgs fans….
BlueDWarrior
Safety over the top has to stay in his lane on that, you have coverage on the other hash, and the receiver over the middle is really shallow.
That was all the freshman for Bama making a pro-level move in baiting the safety to going the wrong way.
The idea that Saban could win 10 games with a literal team of high-schoolers gets more merit every year.
raven
I’m proud of this team and proud to be a Dawg!!!!
raven
@BlueDWarrior: Fuck him, we’re coming for his ass.
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
@raven: You should be. I expect y’all will be back.
Duane
@raven: Georgia played a great game. So did Bama. It reached the point that either team could just as likely win. Everything thing you’d want from a championship game.
raven
@Duane: Yep, it’s hard to be all philosophical but this has been a great season .
Betty Cracker
@raven: Pretty amazing for a 2nd year coach!
Leem
This has been an amazing season. I look forward to next years run.
Dave
Dawgs got hosed… refs missed at least 4 calls that went against the Dawgs, and all of them affected the outcome. Sorry, Betty. I’m an old Husker alum (yeah, we’ve fallen on hard times, in my time there, we won back-to-back national titles, 1970-71), so I didn’t have a real favorite, but I hate to see a team that outplays the other team lose, especially because of poor officiating, and that’s what happened tonight.
dp
Between the Dawgs abandoning their offense late and the officials’ blindness (my favorite was missing the facemask because it morphed into a horsecollar), UGA lost their chance.
The Bama Mulligan pays off again.
