I forgot to re-register the domain name so we were down for a spell. We’re back live and good for five years (if blogs and the internet even exist then- we need some new blood, an influx of young kids to come shake things up in the comments and rouse us old farts). To make up for this, an adorable picture of Steve after I have tucked him into the bed he made out of blankets on the couch:
Such a good boy.
Karmus
That makes everything all better. Looking good, Steve.

So cute!

Maine Coons are such enormous beasts.
Does yours sleep sprawled out on his back with his belly out? Mine does. Never seen a cat do that before this one.
bago
How cold is it?
Elizabelle
Steve!
Yeah, some new blood would be good, but be careful what you wish for. Suspect some of the issue is current events are upsetting enough that some peeps just avoid news as much as possible, and also less blog commenting. Who knows, though? All could turn around.

Don’t feel too bad, it even happens to Google.

Spent 3 hours in urgent care with madame who seems to contracted the flu, good times.
Sister Golden Bear
Adorable!

@?BillinGlendaleCA: ugh. Sorry to hear. What did they end up doing?

@Major Major Major Major: Took chest x-rays, gave her a shot and a script to pick up tomorrow.

Aw, sweet. Sorry John, you’re not going to bring out the pissy, contrarian, shake things up part of my nature by showing me pictures of large snuggly kitties. But I’ll work on it later if you really want, even though I’m not at all qualified in the “young kids” department.

LOL whups

Here’s a picture of young Samwise lounging around.

Yikes! If you need a 24-hour pharmacy, the CVS in our Burbank ‘hood on Hollywood Way and Verdugo is nearby. The actual pharmacy is 24/7, not just the store.

Waiting for my appointment, I was listening to a Fleetwood Mac compilation yesterday on a discman at the hospital. (Discmans, for the benefit of any whippersnappers present, were a type of portable audio device pioneered by Sony that played CDs — in those days, you couldn’t buy digital music
on the Internetin soft copy, so it was recorded on these discs. This tech is so old it predates even iPods.) I heard Silver Springs, and was once again amazed that a song of such emotional power, surely among the best of the Rumours sessions, was left out of the album’s initial LP release.Major Major Major Major
@eclare: he’s quite gray, is the white balance off maybe?
Mnemosyne
Since this is a pet-related thread, I will repeat G’s stressful story from earlier. He was supposed to get our middle cat Annie packed up and meet me at the vet for her appointment, but he had to give up after an hour since she both pooped in the carrier just as he was shoving her in AND drew enough blood that there’s a stain on the couch.
Needless to say, we rescheduled the appointment.
Amir Khalid
I have a strike tag I couldn’t close in comment #17. Help!
eclare
@Major Major Major Major: I don’t know, he looks black to me in that photo. Still beauty.
Major Major Major Major
@eclare: ah, that’s the angle then. He’s very shimmery, so he can look dark sometimes. And thanks!
Mnemosyne
@eclare:
It may be your monitor or screen. Samwise is definitely dark gray, not black.
eclare
@Major Major Major Major: Shimmery, love it!
Elizabelle
@Major Major Major Major: He is lounging and thinking. Inscrutable little face.
@Amir Khalid: Silver Springs. Excellent song. Saw Stevie Nicks in concert last fall in St. Paul, MN. She looked Picture of Dorian Grey young, and still in great voice. Told a lot of stories, forget which song was a response to Prince’s “When Doves Cry” (plus some photos of him; hometown boy and will always be missed). Also stories about songwriting with Tom Petty, and what a marvelous friend he was. Poignant, then and now.
Stevie Nicks has such a good song catalogue, never mind Fleetwood Mac. I forget what a good songwriter she is.
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Wishing Madame all the best. Sounds like that flu is a dreadful one. Nurse puppies will be assisting too, in the recovery.
Betty Cracker
@Amir Khalid: I can help. Where should I insert the close tag?
PS: Need to look up that tune. It’s been ages since I’ve listened to it.

@Elizabelle:
Are you still in Sevilla, or was that just for a few days? We have a museum exhibition at La Caixa Sevilla right now. It goes to Barcelona in a few months, pending any civil unrest.
ThresherK
@Mnemosyne: Ooh. I had my wife’s cat, Dexter (not after the tv show serial killer, but CK Dexter Haven, The Philadelphia Story) draw blood from me while at a vet clinic. Not my fault. He was being cranky and growly to the vets. They had gauntlet gloves. He reached out to claw me quite a ways. I wasn’t approaching him, leaning in, or trying to talk to him, or anything.
Amir Khalid
@Betty Cracker:
Right after “on the Internet”. Many thanks.
Mnemosyne
@ThresherK:
I’m pretty sure that, as far as Annie is concerned, it was entirely G’s own fault. I’m not sure if she swiped him or just dug in while struggling to gwt away.
Amir Khalid
@Betty Cracker:
Here’s a live version.

Disc? Have a Walky* (with matching silver leatherette case) that still works just fine.

Samwise and Steve both look very cuddly. My Chenille who has been plastered to my side for a week isn’t speaking to me since I yelled at her for knocking a glass of water off my desk.

It has actually warmed up a tiny bit here tonight. When I went to bed it was only 2 and now 4 hours later it is already up to – wait for it – 4 degrees.
Let the cat out, who really wanted out, for about 5 minutes. She was desperately hanging on the door by then, when I looked at the front door, and let her back in. She tore around thumping as she ran around the room, I guess to exercise inside to warm up. I suspect when I go back to bed she will join me to warm up yet more.
Samwise has an interesting face shape for a cat. Of course part of that could be his hair style on his head…. but I prefer to think of it as a sign of his ancient wisdom. What a nice looking kitty.
Elizabelle
@Mnemosyne: I saw the exhibit at Sevilla Caixa. Absolutely loved it! And I suspect it will be safe in Barcelona.
Back in Germany, in Wiesbaden. Was going to visit Heidelberg Castle today, but it’s rainy and high winds, so heading to Frankfurt to see some art museums instead. There’s a great exhibit of Weimar era art I would like to see. Have to plan for return to US before too long, but haven’t booked a flight. Maybe earlyish February.
Major Major Major Major
@J R in WV: he does have a weird head (it’s very small), the puffy cheeks are his winter coat bulging up above his collar.

@Major Major Major Major: can’t edit—bunching, not bulging.

FWIW, here is the WaPost article on the FTF Vichy NYTimes’ decision to give their letters page to Trump supporters, so that we can learn from them. Despite the FTF V NYTimes’ editorial board’s very strong crusading AGAINST Trump. Which somehow does not make it into their headlines, political coverage, or its press corpse’s most earnest fellating.
Arts and Entertainment
The New York Times gives its editorial page over to Trump supporters, sparking a debate
A debate. Because controversy! Sells! Policy and realism is boring. We might lose advertisers.
Kudos to the WaPost — I kind of love they put this under “Arts and Entertainment.” I guess it’s a media column, but it belongs under “infotainment.”

Steve is a very good bo, John Cole. That picture of him just makes me happy.
@fuckwit: We had a Maine coon who slept on his back, his belly exposed to the sky in the middle of our back yard. Granted, there was a wall around that garden, but still. I’m sure the smallish hawk that I caught eyeing my rabbits considered him for a moment or two before deciding that if the rabbits were too big for her, then Tommy certainly was.
opiejeanne
@Elizabelle: Press Corpse is right, in their case.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Elizabelle: Well, there’s also her daughter, the RN.
@Mnemosyne: She’ll hit Rite Aid in the AM, not sure what kind of shot they gave her.
In other news, I just mod-ed my camera. Some really interesting features(focus stacking, ramping for timelapse, telnet to the camera from a browser…).
opiejeanne
@?BillinGlendaleCA: I hope she gets better quickly. This is no fun. I go to my own doctor tomorrow to try to figure out this being sick thing. I’ve been to Urgent Care twice since Christmas Eve.They’re usually pretty good but they finally told me I should follow up with my own doc.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Elizabelle: Heidelberg Castle is quite nice, visited in 1979. Have you been to Baden-Baden?
?BillinGlendaleCA
@opiejeanne: She’s kind of in between docs, since her last doc let her know the day before her appointment that they no longer take MediCal. Then the insurance co referred her to another doc, but they don’t take MediCal, but Medicare. I’m warming to single payer.
Betty Cracker
It’s officially freezing outside right now! Iguanas are likely raining down from the trees a bit south.
opiejeanne
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Ugh! Here I am rediscovering something I knew a long time ago but forgot because it didn’t affect us, that not all doctors accept Medicare. I really miss Kaiser because of the way it functioned; tests, treatment, doctors, pharmacy, hospital, everything provided by them so there was none of this running around trying to get our damned insurance company to pay for the part of the bill that Medicare didn’t cover, and not having to deal with fifteen separate companies was a bonus..
It’s raining like mad here, very noisy. 47 degrees at 1:30am. We got two days of winter in Seattle and this just seems like Spring. The high was 61 on Monday.
David ??Merry Christmas?? Koch
@Debbie(Aussie): are you out there?
I’m watching the matches on ESPN online and it’s brutal. One of the women almost collapsed.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@opiejeanne: I hope(but have my doubts) she’ll be better by Sunday since we’re supposed to go out for dinner(it’s my natal anniversary).
David ??Merry Christmas?? Koch
@?BillinGlendaleCA: yikes, seems like a lot of people have been hit hard this year.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@David ??Merry Christmas?? Koch: Yes, and she did have her flu shot.
ETA: As have I. I’m still worried about being around all those sick folk in the waiting room.?

MSNBC is fellating, like a $200 callgirl, the 20th Anniversary of Drudge Report on Clenis.
The story the accusations, were driven by “media, much of it on the right”, and also “countered by media on the left”.
BriWi, just tell us how popular Bill Clinton was when the hunting was over. Then, fucking leave.
Elizabelle
@opiejeanne: I write them so many letters in my head. Maybe time to put a few to paper.
@Betty Cracker: Safe landings, little iguanas. Burmese pythons: you fuckers can freeze. Begone.
@ Bill in Glendale: nope, not to Baden Baden yet. Sinsheim though, that was an excellent thermal bath. Drinking cava outdoors, in a steaming mineral bath. Not shabby.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@ThresherK: My local news(NBC) was just dreadful on their report on the upcoming shutdown, showed Paulie Blue Eyes(aka ZEGS) saying how the evil Democrats were holding up defense of our country for their pet concern and that was left standing as the story. I’m sorry, last time I checked, the Republican have majorities in the House and the Senate and control the Presidency. So it’s the fault of the Democrats, right.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Elizabelle: Baden-Baden’s a nice little city, we made a long side trip to that area from Salzburg where we were taking classes(my former German teacher’s dad lived there) so we visited there on the weekend between classes.
Elizabelle
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Thanks for the tip.
Catch you guys later. Coffeed up; time to head out to train station.

@ThresherK: I saw that awful episode! Politico’s editor in chief, John Harris, was BriWi’s guest, and he said something so breathtakingly stupid that I not only wondered how he functions in his editorial role but found it remarkable that he can remember to alternate legs when taking steps so he doesn’t fall on his face.
Harris said the difference between Bill Clinton’s and Trump’s approach to the media as POTUS is that Clinton cared what the NYT said and Trump doesn’t. I hope Harris has caregivers to pin a note with his name and address on his jacket when he leaves the house. And someone to protect his bank account from Nigerian princes.
ThresherK
@Betty Cracker: I couldn’t care less what was said beyond that. I literally am at a Dunkin Donuts, and lowered the volume on the wall TV to indecipherable.
I half-expect MSNBC to find, and ask for rememberances, from the then-first-graders whose parents put them next to signs saying “President Clinton, stay away from me!”
