@Mary G: I’m not sure she was so much sad that day, but confused why FIVE people came to pick her up. LOL If there had been more room in my car, there might have been 7. She’s very happy and is a big love. And a spirit as big as you’d expect from a Great Dane.
@Omnes Omnibus: Owen Ellickson mentioned that a TV producer was the second-worst thing you could imagine on his TL, and I brought up something else to cushion the horror.
…anyway, heard the Discovery Channel had to defend sharks to the president?
@SiubhanDuinne: In the tradition of her brother, she seems to be growing in segments. Today it appears to be legs. We used to call Bixby the silly putty puppy – one day his tail would be super long, next day it would be his ears, then his head, legs…you get the idea. Eventually they all seem to even out. :-D

Lost my Lily dog a week ago tomorrow.
Scout is adorable. She might be big enough for Bixby in a couple of weeks at the rate she is growing.
My stepdaughter next door has a pitbull mix and two chihuahuas. The younger chihuahua plays with the pitbull by attaching himself (with teeth) to her ear. She races around the yard with the chihuahua hanging from her ear. Both of them seem to find it exhilarating.
The same chihuahua used to sleep onLily’s head back when she was their dog.
I tried TaMara’s apple crisp recipe last night for my husband, who is watching his weight andnever gets dessert. We both loved it. Pear crisp next week.

What a sweetie!
I feel like I need to be talked down from a low ledge over this shutdown. I feel like the government will not ever open again but I know that’s irrational.
Maybe you should take Scout to the Senate. Looks like they could use some puppeh in their lives.

@opiejeanne: O’Donnell says McSoapy and Schumer are still negotiating. Ron Klain says it’s almost certainly too late to avert a shutdown, but they may be working on a quick fix to announce tomorrow
This week in four year olds:
She and daddy (son in law) are playing a non-violent video game.
The protagonist is not gender-specific. SIL keeps calling it “he”; granddaughter keeps correcting him to “she”. He does not relent. Finally she stops, goes and gets a piece of paper and a crayon, and with mom’s help in the spelling writes “GIRL NOT BOY”.
Then she asked mom for a popsicle stick to stick at the bottom to hold it up.
Baby’s first protest sign. Daughter (mom) and I are so proud.
She’s soulful, Scout. I like that. OK, I think GDs are wonderful now. I never really knew one before, but I’m getting the picture.

@TaMara (HFG): @Mary G: Someone on Twitter posted a pic of their new puppy, and that puppy also looked kind of sad – I think there must be a bit of disorientation and some grief at leaving parents and remaining litter mates behind. Sure Scout was relieved and thrilled to meet Bixby, though.
I used to board the late great Seamus at his breeder’s home when I traveled – usually just a drop and go. But one day they invited me in to see a new litter of puppies (On my last day on earth I’d like to spend it swarmed by a litter of Golden Retriever puppies), and Seamus was so happy and excited and proud to show off his original home to me, introduce me to his doggy mom and pop and granny. Kind of like a kindergartner showing off his classroom to parents at an open house. Such a happy memory!

@SiubhanDuinne: @TaMara (HFG): @rikyrah: Thanks. I have had and eventually lost a lot of dogs over the years (since 1980) but losing Lily really gobsmacked us. I think it’s the combination of her being so wonderful yet having had such a mostly crappy and short life. We did give her nearly three good years.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: That helps a little. I’ve just been so immersed in the reports of skullduggery recently that it just feels like a coup, although Kruschev’s great granddaughter says we already had the coup. She’s defining it differently from the way we usually do.
I have a little nagging voice in my head that says Trump will say, “who needs all of those people on furlough? We can save so much money for the government if we don’t bring them back.”
Totally irrational, I know.
@Sab: So sorry for your loss of sweet Lily. And thank you for the image of the pittie with a chihuahua hanging off her head – that’s pretty funny!
I had so many doggos in our shop today, it was a blast! Two little ones that I pet sit sometimes, shamelessly begging for treats. They got all barky at our newest golden visitor, so I had to take his treats outside to him. That golden and his owner were ones I used to meet when walking Seamus in Glen Ellen, and after seeing them walk by on a few different days, I realized that they lost their home in the fires, and are now in Sonoma. Dad says he still cries every day, but they now have a new stop on their walk that makes them feel happier and at home.
Last customer was a friend from Glen Ellen with her greyhound. Like the pair above, they ran for their lives in the middle of the night and have only their critters and whatever they wore out the door. They are all so fragile, and it makes me feel useful in making a little right spot for them after so much trauma.

I’ve enjoyed cats and dogs belonging to my kids and their dad over the years, but I’m not really a pet person in my own right. (Runs and hides……)
Nevertheless, from the first picture TaMara (HFG) posted of Scout I’ve felt like I should have a dog after all. She’s adorable beyond belief! Although, realistically, if I were going to get a dog it would have to be a smaller one than a Great Dane. Maybe a Golden….

The responder crews fought the fires, then just days later had to dig out mud, and now they [probably] won’t get paid. If they all suffer PTSD I wouldn’t be surprised.
