Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The willow is too close to the house.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Their freedom requires your slavery.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

The GOP is a fucking disgrace.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Usually wrong but never in doubt

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

No one could have predicted…

They call him a runner but Jesse James was not. This is a mindblowing set of rules to determine a catch.

Over/under on this game was 48-48.5. Blew buy it very early Hope the books took a bath.

And if they don’t clarify and simplify the catch/receiver/runner/goal line plane rule, if nothing else the odds makers are going to look at who’s officiating and adjust the lines accordingly. Not to mention pissing off the fan base.

    No Drought No More

    February 4, 2018 at 10:14 pm

I well recall how strange the old AFL uniforms first looked, and looked down on the league even after the merger in ’66. It wasn’t Namath and the Jets that changed my mind, either; it was Namath and the Jets, Len Dawson and the Chiefs, and Bob Griese and the Dolphins. I considered the Steelers dynasty as reflecting equally well on the old league, too, and still do. I remember how very pleased I was when the Raiders whipped the Eagles, but barring Super Bowl with them in I root for the NFC team. So with 48 seconds remaining, I say: go Eagles! Congrats- I hope- to their long suffering fans.. they deserve one.

@Ceci n est pas mon nym: In Bwahstin, they close Kenmore Square at the beginning of 4th quarter; fill the blocks leading in with horse cops and riot police, and make everyone go the fuck home.

The first year the Pats won, some outtatown yahoos and BU students collectively tipped over parked cars in Kenmore and set them on fire. Which pretty much pissed off EVERYBODY in the Hub, with loud demands to “DO SOMETHING”. So no parking in Kenmore after about 4 pm; all bars black out curtains in their windows at 6pm, and cordons for the drunkards to walk through to get to parking garages / T stops. I assume the MBTA turns the 57 bus around at Packards Corner, and doesn’t let it into Kenmore.

We never had problems in the burbs (some honking, some illegal fireworks at the VFW, nothingburger stuff), and it was fine downtown, but the Kenmore area went to shit every time the Sox or Pats won.

If the Celtics or the Bruins win, they have to shut down the Garden area (West End/North End/Haymarket nexus), as well as Kenmore. Greasing the lightpoles would be dramatically insufficient.

@Villago Delenda Est: The best part of this win is that they rebuilt the PHI team significantly after Chip left. So this isn’t a holdover win. This exposes Chip again. Which is nice.

So, what are Nick Foles, Superbowl champion quarterback, chances of starting next year?

There are 5 or 6 teams he could possibly start for next year. If I were Nick I would stay away from Browns, MIA and Jets. I’d look at the AZ Cards first and then move down.

I watched that football game on my first (only) ship in a crew lounge. The first AFL team to beat an NFL team IIRC. I made $10, which when you only earn $90 a month is a pretty good score. Always did like Joe Namath!
