Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Come on, man.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Consistently wrong since 2002

American History and Black History Cannot Be Separated

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

We are aware of all internet traditions.

The Senate is supposed to go back in session shortly. Senator Paul’s ability to continue to hold things up expires in a bit. He could technically push this to 3 AM EST, but who knows how far he’ll go. Once he runs out of Senate rules cover, they should be able to pass the two year Senate budget deal. Depending on Senator Paul this should occur sometime between 1 and 3 AM EST. There is a cloture vote scheduled for 1 AM EST.

Members of the House have been notified to prepare for a vote between 3 and 6 AM EST. Provided Speaker Ryan can wrangle the votes, or get Congresswoman Pelosi to provide them from the Democratic Caucus, the House should pass the Senate bill sometime later this morning and the government shutdown should be brief. Given what we’ve seen of majority Republican control of both chambers of Congress, however, anything could happen. So stay tuned!

And stay frosty!

As of right now I’m not changing my morning schedule. But I will be checking the news in the morning. And something tells me either Yertle or Paulie Boy are gonna fail here.

@Corner Stone: I’m still trying to figure out how we get Republicans to vote for letting brown people stay in the country when they clearly don’t want to do so. This seems difficult when we can’t use the shutdown as an effective threat.

Well, somebody has got to stand up for all those Tea Party defectives – er, patriots. 2020 isn’t that far off. Of course, that assumes they might remember Aqua Buddha’s principled stand in 2018, which isn’t likely. Their attention span seems to be somewhat limited.
