Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

The low info voters probably won’t even notice or remember by their next lap around the goldfish bowl.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

“But what about the lurkers?”

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

WATCH: Chuck Todd unloads on "crazy" Trump White House: “It's like we're living inside a parody" https://t.co/4ayF4yl88Y pic.twitter.com/9daVBVivyW

— The Hill (@thehill) February 9, 2018

Chuck Todd said Hillary Clinton was “overprepared” for a fucking debate he can have several million seats. https://t.co/H2PjNryIXP

— Celia (@_celia_marie_) February 9, 2018

Chuck Todd don’t care that Trump is a sexist, racist, xenophobic liar, but he has very strong feelings about the “dignity” of… the political press, as represented by Chuck Todd. And every single day, Donald Trump clues a few more rubes in on the gaff. If it’s all a cheapjack game show, why pay Chuck Todd seven figures for what so many bloggers will give away for free?
.

Trump's closing argument in the '16 election was that Hillary Clinton would be mired in endless scandals and controversy.

But since taking office, Team Trump has been stuck in a year of permanent scandal https://t.co/ZX8nf9jrvA pic.twitter.com/WzEk4Ag1Bf

    Crisis averted.

Used up the last of the vodka last night. Luckily, today was the once a month shopping expedition to town.

BTW, have gasoline prices spiked upwards where y’all are? Closing in fast on $4 for regular. Again.

Wow. Prices are only around $2.40 a gallon where I live.

Yeah, what happened to gas? In CA, the new taxes hit, but that was months ago.

I think I saw $3.45 on the typical corner last night (I fill up at Costco, and last time was $3.09, IIRC).

Any bets on how long Trump keeps the Democratic Memo under lock and key to protect … well, himself? I’m guessing his taxes will come out first and that will be the first of never.

Gas be around $2.559, $2.609, like that in LA (Lower Alabama). For now….

I wonder if Mueller has seen Trump’s tax returns?

@The Dangerman: They’re ranging between $2.69 and $2.81 here. But I have noticed an upward trend.

Probably a temporary spike from last week when gas hit $70/barrel. Down to $60 today.

.30 cents per gallon here.. Nissan Leaf $1.00 of Seattle electricity for 100+ miles. Of course there’s the $6.00 per day lease, minus the lack of maintenance costs (oops, tire rotation) We have to negotiate who gets to drive it… or has to suffer with the pickup.

    @hueyplong:
Wal-Mart and other companies have been clear that these are one time bonuses.

Walmart’s bonuses: Here’s what workers will receive. In total, Walmart will spend $400 million in fiscal 2018 to fund one-time bonuses. Some workers will receive $1,000, but only if they’ve served at the company for at least 20 years. The announcement came on the heels of new tax legislation.

The media have actually been pretty good in noting this, and also in reporting that companies are using anticipated tax breaks to fund severence payments related to layoffs and stock buy backs.

The amount going to employees as wages and bonuses is, as to be expected, a trickle.

Jeffrey Toobin’s impulse tweet yesterday was an illustration in miniature of how fecking bad our media pundits really are. His first impulse with the Porter revelations was to find a woman to criticize for not responding to “the controversy” rather than to criticize that man’s supervisors. So he goes after Gillibrand who probably didn’t even know of the existence of that Porter slime before 48 hours ago, instead of Hatch or Kelly who knew him and/or had the information!

Yeah sure, I noticed Toobin took it back, but somehow it’s seems even worse after thinking about it for another day.
