On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
Good Morning All,
This weekday feature is for Juicers who are are on the road, traveling, or just want to share a little bit of their world via stories and pictures. So many of us rise each morning, eager for something beautiful, inspiring, amazing, subtle, of note, and our community delivers – a view into their world, whether they’re far away or close to home – pictures with a story, with context, with meaning, sometimes just beauty. By concentrating travel updates and tips here, it’s easier for all of us to keep up or find them later.
So please, speak up and share some of your adventures and travel news here, and submit your pictures using our speedy, secure form. You can submit up to 7 pictures at a time, with an overall description and one for each picture.
You can, of course, send an email with pictures if the form gives you trouble, or if you are trying to submit something special, like a zipped archive or a movie. If your pictures are already hosted online, then please email the links with your descriptions.
For each picture, it’s best to provide your commenter screenname, description, where it was taken, and date. It’s tough to keep everyone’s email address and screenname straight, so don’t assume that I remember it “from last time”. More and more, the first photo before the fold will be from a commenter, so making it easy to locate the screenname when I’ve found a compelling photo is crucial.
Have a wonderful day, and enjoy the pictures!

This was the Sikh float!
Wow – what a great teaser, I can’t wait to see more pictures!
So – this is a nice video he took to tide us through today – thanks Raven and Watergirl for sending the link.
Thank you so much raven, do send us more when you can.
Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.

Wow, what a great float, and such a nice purpose, too. One Humanity!
and good morning, rikyrah! Good Morning All!!
It was 78 here yesterday in places in town, and at bedtime the house was 72 while the thermostat hasn’t been set above 69 n months. Raining hard too, with already creeks bank-full. Could flood later.
Now back in bed!
raven
Well, the first submission worked. I sent 6 more in a second but I guess it didn’t get there.
raven
The video is 12 minutes long so I don’t blame anyone for not watching it.
satby
@raven: it’s a great video, must have been hard to edit down to only 12 minutes. I like that it ends with a beautiful sunset. Looking forward to seeing the rest.
raven
@satby: Actually that is the sunrise!!!! The goofy pictures at the start are tortillas and marshmallows that parade campers throw at cars on New Years Eve! I was worried that I had included video of the game winning touchdown in the game. . .whew!
debbie
@raven:
Hope you’ll resubmit your photos. I love the workmanship that goes into the floats.
rikyrah
Can’t wait to see more, raven
Frankensteinbeck
I finally got actual sales figures from my publisher. Turns out the Supervillain series has sold about 100,000 books. I needed this information to talk to an agent. My publisher has sat on the last book in the series for three months, and if they don’t get off their butts… I don’t know what I’ll do. It’s reaching the point I can’t keep professionally silent, because what do I tell my readers expecting the final book?
mad citizen
This is a really nice video. The parade takes on a different, perhaps more beautiful air, without the commentary of Cord Hosenbeck and Tish Cattigan.

@Frankensteinbeck:
WTF? Why is the publisher sitting on it? Have they given you any reason? It must be maddening.
raven
@debbie: OK, I did it again with just parade pictures and better descriptions
Amir Khalid
@Steeplejack (phone):
Yeah, you’d think a publisher would be eager to bring out a book in a series with a good following.
Ben Cisco
@raven: Very cool. I’m glad you got to go; sorry you got sick and missed the followup.
WaterGirl
@raven: I watched the video, and it’s well worth watching! Although I did fast forward through the bands, so for me it was really 10 minutes. Some amazing floats, not to mention that it was nice to get an actual window into raven’s special day!
raven
@Ben Cisco: In retrospect it was a crushing loss and I didn’t need anything ruining the great Rose Bowl we had. I also made a bunch of money that helped with the ridiculous su we spent on the Rose Bowl. Notice how close we are to the floats? Those seats cost more than the game!
Frankensteinbeck
@Steeplejack (phone):
It is maddening, and it is a lot of money, Which makes it even weirder. It does not cost them much at all to put out a book, and the payoff for one of mine is like 1000% in the first month alone.
Ben Cisco
@raven: Man, that’s nuts! Must’ve been a great view though!
Steeplejack (phone)
@Amir Khalid:
Yeah, it is so hard for an author or a book to get some purchase and gain momentum, so it’s crazy to do anything to hinder that. I wonder if the publisher is having financial or logistical problems unrelated to Frankensteinbeck’s book.
Alain the site fixer
@raven: Major x4 is hard at work on it; it’s apparently a timeout related to your slow connection. Hopefully we can test again – I want to see the pix!
Mnemosyne
@Frankensteinbeck:
Check with a publishing lawyer, but there may be a clause in your contract where you can repay them your advance and get the book back so you can go with a different publisher. If nothing else, getting an official letter from your lawyer requesting that may light a fire under them.
Mnemosyne
@raven:
I need to get ready for a day at Disneyland, but I watched the first few minutes. Those were some amazing parade seats! Your bride must have been thrilled. ?
raven
@Alain the site fixer: Hmm, I don’t think there is anything wrong with my connection. Maybe it’s the size of the photos? I’m loading straight from “Photos” on my MacBook pro.
Elizabelle
@raven: Look forward to watching your Rose parade footage later.
Was kinda thinking it would be more of the dog parade. I never tire of photos from that!
