We are a mere 21 hours past the McCabe firing and the headlines on cable news are all about McCabe’s memos.
This is the most delicious vendetta fail in the history of petty vengeance.

The Mueller probe should never have been started in that there was no collusion and there was no crime. It was based on fraudulent activities and a Fake Dossier paid for by Crooked Hillary and the DNC, and improperly used in FISA COURT for surveillance of my campaign. WITCH HUNT!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 18, 2018
Quick rundown: The Mueller probe was the continuation of the FBI probe which was not based on the dossier. And the FISA on Carter Page came after he left the campaign. There have been 5 guilty pleas and more than a dozen indicted individuals/entities. https://t.co/2yGgln7HPh

As dangerous as Trump might seem, if you really look back at his track record, you’ll find little more than a long trail of coercion and threats.
When the person can be neither coerced or intimidated, Trump folds like a house of cards and runs.

It’s reasonable to fear what he might do as the walls close in… but not so much that it eats you up.
No matter how loudly Trump rattles his saber, the guy is an impotent do nothing when the opponent ain’t afraid to draw their weapon too.
He’s a coward. Remember that.

I continue to be concerned that he’ll lash out at Iran, N Korea or somewhere as the walls close in around him. He’s increasingly surrounded by a team of belligerent idiots who might egg him on in that. We may end up missing Tillerson, for example.

Well, Trump didn’t have access to nuclear weapons or was in command of hundreds of thousands of troops that cheer whenever he says horrific shit back then. I’m still worried that the power will go to his head and he’ll do something we’ll all regret.
feebog
I think the difference is that in the past, Trumpov was a fairly minor real estate developer in New York with a reputation of running off at the mouth. Now he is in a position to do real damage to this country and even to the world. But in the final analysis he is a coward, always has been. My fear is that he is becoming increasingly unhinged and will almost surely trigger a constitutional crisis. What will the American public do in that case? And what will the Republican Party do in that case?

@feebog: Good points about Trumpov’s past, but the flipside, as we’re seeing, is that as President everything he does is in blinding light–even more so because of his narcissism and incessent need to tweet and be the center of our world. And of course the other part of the flipside is all of us, and all of the opposition, and any resonable or patriotic Republicans who choose to put country above party. We’ll see. I saw a story on mental illness this morning (CBS Sunday Morning), Glenn Close and the online community for the issue, and I was thinking, what is the “American community”? Is it Facebook?
Anyway, later today I got to this thought: Democrats should start inserting “America” and “American rule of law” and “American values” every time they talk. Take back the word. When asked, make it plain that they are the party of our nation. The other party, and certainly their leader, are not. Just a thought for a Sunday night.

Similar to but much harder hitting than the previous games’ use of demihumans as both terrorists AND freedom fighters. You can justify either side. The baron is the same sort of thing, and you can see the same dynamic in Hearts of Stone as well. They’re both just… sad.

In game, I just loved Triss’ character, especially when it was clear that she felt like she’d taken advantage of Geralt and thought she didn’t deserve him. But Yen is still the default romance, so achieving that romance with Triss really felt like you’d earned it. And even she couldn’t really believe hwlow it turned out.

@Steve in the ATL: Second for Comrade Detective, just the right level of subversion. I recommend the Wallander series with Kenneth Branaugh. Also Bosch on Amazon, about to come out with a new season in April, IIRC.
Amir Khalid
@Steve in the ATL:
Really? I’ve had a look at the Official Video, Neil’s Rock Hall induction show, and a few other live performances on YouTube. He doesn’t use a capo on that song. I’ll try it without first and see, ob es geht oder nicht.
BruceFromOhio
Fat lot of good that does when this ‘coward’ and the criminally corrupt Congress enabling his rampant idiocy are vertically fornicating my country on a daily basis. I don’t give a rats’ fucking ass what he is, or what he fucking says, it’s what he does that boils my blood as it freezes my soul.
Sab
@Sab: I loved that movie, but
when I discovered what they did to the actress I was appalled.I could never watch it again. Gag!
Hkedi [Kang T. Q.]
@BruceFromOhio: Preach it.
NotMax
@VOR
Original Swedish Wallander series far superior, IMHO.
Don’t believe the first season is available on Netflix in the U.S. anymore. Who knows, though, maybe it will return later.

People keep forgetting: Trump’s tweets aren’t meant to sway or intimidate Mueller, the FBI, the DOJ, or Stormy, or anyone except the dead-eyed Fox viewers in their MAGA hats and government-funded Hoverrounds. If he can keep them in line, their outraged phone calls and faxes keep legislators in line and then when Mueller eventually lowers the boom (or Trump tries to fire him), the entire GOP can just call it Fake News and declare that it’s time to move on.
AnneWith
@Omnes Omnibus: Are you the plain Omnes Omnibus who hasn’t tweeted at all, or the 64 one?
Omnes Omnibus
@BruceFromOhio: Okay. That’s all a given. Until November and/or Muellermas, not much can happen except to organize for November. And reminding people of the fact that Trump is a coward may be what someone here needs to stay motivated. But I get all your feels.
Steeplejack
@Omnes Omnibus:
Jimmy Perez on Shetland: I vaguely remember a throwaway line in the first series about a Spaniard in the works somewhere in the family tree—shipwrecked sailor or something like that.
debbie
@Omnes Omnibus:
Huh, no response.
Omnes Omnibus
@AnneWith: 64.
KS in MA
@patrick ii: Second for “Shetland.” Also enjoyed “Scott & Bailey.”
Steve in the ATL
@Sab: I’m actually a lot of fun IRL and my comment to you about Omnes was clearly in jest, as Omnes is one of my B-J buddies. Hell, he may even be a real person!
Omnes Omnibus
@debbie: Yeah, the whole approach was weird. McCabe would distribute the money to deserving charities? It screamed bullshit to me.
FlyingToaster
@Steeplejack: The Spanish Armada left a number of interesting surnames all over the British Isles.
Steve in the ATL
@Amir Khalid: not that song specifically, but a lot of his songs with Crazy Horse. Such as most of Rust Never Sleeps
Omnes Omnibus
@Steve in the ATL:
Please define hell, real, and person.
Major Major Major Major
@debbie: fancy that.
FlyingToaster
@Steve in the ATL:
Careful there — you’re both lawyers. Humanity is not necessarily evident.
GregB
Has anyone seen the reports the the wife of top Trump aide Dan Scavino has filed for divorce? Seems like a trend here.
Steve in the ATL
@FlyingToaster: and the entire Black Irish race!
debbie
@Omnes Omnibus:
Gutierrez was on NPR yesterday and said he would hire McCabe so he’d be eligible to get his pension. It would be a nice FU to Trump.
Omnes Omnibus
Late enough? Johnny and Joe.
Omnes Omnibus
@debbie: My CongressCritter, Mark Pocan, apparently did the same.
Washburn
@Omnes Omnibus:
Not my decision to make.
Anyway – McCabe’s team announced that they are going to do a legal defense fund – so donations can go there.
Let’s make McCabe rich!
Washburn
@Omnes Omnibus:
Yeah, it is just so difficult in this day and age to be a suspicious little prick about everything.
Good to see that you really put in the effort.
Omnes Omnibus
@Washburn:
Why?
Omnes Omnibus
@Washburn: It really required little effort. I am sentient. As are most commenters here*
*I can’t speak for Steve in the ATL.
feathers
@Omnes Omnibus: Watched the first season and it was fun, but it didn’t have the depth of the original. Realized what was wrong when I read a review that pointed out that the original novel was written about the Tories at the height of Margaret Thatcher’s power, about the power struggle after Thatcher’s resignation. How close was it to current events? Thatcher resigned while the show was on the air. Therefore, to match the BBC’s daring, Netflix would have needed to portray a thinly disguise Ted Cruz or equivalent. Or maybe a Mitch McConnell, campaigning in the name of the base, and screwing them over on Capitol Hill. Obama would have to be an offscreen character, shown through news footage. Spacey as a fantasy Southern Democrat doesn’t cut it. Not tied closely enough to the actual compromises and betrayals involved in Republican DoNothing Politics. That would have been something.
However, I might watch the upcoming Robin Wright season.
debbie
@Sab:
More goofball than asshole. I know it’s tough to tell sometimes with attorneys. ;)
Steve in the ATL
@Omnes Omnibus: I’m totally not an AI bot. I swear on Lenin’s tomb.
Omnes Omnibus
@Steve in the ATL: Sure, but are you sentient? You are a frat boy from a southern LAC. People can have doubts.
AnneWith
@Omnes Omnibus:
Cool! I already follow you, then.

@Omnes Omnibus: Godless and Babylon Berlin are both great.
Omnes Omnibus
@AnneWith: God help you.
MomSense
@Omnes Omnibus:
What did you think of Peaky Blinders?
satby
@Omnes Omnibus: I wish McCabe good luck fighting Cheeto Twitler, but I’m not sending him any money. He’s going to come out of this just fine.
Sab
@Gin & Tonic: How exactly does this disprove my point that Brando and director were on board but 20 year old actress felt raped?
?BillinGlendaleCA
@NotMax: Thanks, I’ll add it to the queue; right now it’s back to the video card on my Hackbook Pro.
MomSense
@Omnes Omnibus:
House of Cards is meh but Stranger Things is fantastic.
Sab
@Omnes Omnibus: You are being you. He is being management.
Omnes Omnibus
@MomSense: Tommy Fucking Shelby is a horrible human being but a compelling character – as is Arthur. Fantastic show.
Gin & Tonic
@Sab: You said she *was* raped. She says she wasn’t. Words actually have meaning. She was treated poorly during the filming, but she was not raped.
Omnes Omnibus
@satby: I think Washburn is a scam.
MomSense
@Omnes Omnibus:
And the music works really well.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Omnes Omnibus:
I’ve seen photos that purport to be of Steve in the ATL and Ruckus met someone who claimed to be Steve in the ATL.
Omnes Omnibus
@Sab: He may well be being himself outside of work. YMMV.
BruceFromOhio
@Omnes Omnibus: Thanks, and thankfully FYWP ate my acid-laden response. I have to remember to be friendly to friendly folk, and save my piss & vinegar for the opposition. Deep breath, neck rolls, calm thoughts of blue skies and Democratic majorities.
Sab
@Sab: Plus he is completely and utterly on the wrong side of the an historian a historian divide , which is important for the future of the English language.
Omnes Omnibus
@MomSense: Yes, it does. I didn’t realize there were that many covers of the Nick Cave song.
SgrAstar
@Omnes Omnibus: Perez is a descendant of shipwrecked sailors from the fabled Spanish Armada, or so the books say. I’m still trying to figure out how boats from the Armada ended up on Lewis, though. :)
MoxieM
@Omnes Omnibus: The Spanish Armada!
MomSense
I was walking along a path next to a wetland/stormwater management lake and saw a bunch of alligator warming signs. When I went around the bend some people were pointing at a 12 foot long alligator. He was very low in the water and looked a bit like a log until you looked closely. I had already walked past him and didn’t see him. I was definitely on full alert walking back.
BruceFromOhio
@MomSense: Rah! Busting in to say PB is entertaining and highly recommended, and I’m only on S3:E2. Cillian Murphy has come along way since Batman Begins.
MomSense
@BruceFromOhio:
I’m halfway through season 4. It’s intense so I can only watch one at a time now.
Gin & Tonic
@MoxieM: Nobody expects the Spanish Armada!
Omnes Omnibus
@SgrAstar: Cool.
Steve in the ATL
@Sab: I may be and represent management, but I am a yellow dog democrat!
@Sab: I often say “agree to disagree” but that is a bridge too far! Do you live in an house? Of course not. Reflect on that for an hour and get back to me. Wait a minute…
Omnes Omnibus
@Steve in the ATL: Me, I am off to bed. I did what I could.
Mnemosyne
@Omnes Omnibus:
I think Washburn is ARGB with a new ‘nym. After Parkland, people wouldn’t give him the time of day, so he’s come back pretending to be someone else.
Omnes Omnibus
@Mnemosyne: I care more about people not funding its fund than who it may be. Not picking a fight.
Steve in the ATL

(((CassandraLeo)))
@Gin & Tonic: Was Steubenville not a rape because a penis wasn’t actually involved in the penetration? GFY. Bertolucci himself admitted Schneider never consented to it. If you’re going to be this legalistic about the definition of “rape”, you should be aware that it isn’t even a fucking legal term, but the Last Tango in Paris scene fits the legal definition of a sexual assault to a tee. Bertolucci’s intention by his own admission was to humiliate her so that she wouldn’t actually be “acting” her response to the sexual assault – in other words, for her to feel as if she had been sexually assaulted. You’re defending the indefensible.
Omnes Omnibus
@Steve in the ATL: Stop touching me.

@mad citizen:
I’m afraid you are looking for an extinct species
(((CassandraLeo)))
@Tom: @grandpa john: I must beg to differ, as Robert Mueller and Rod Rosenstein are evidently registered Republicans. “Reasonable or patriotic elected Republicans” may very well be extinct, however.
