On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
Good Morning All,
This weekday feature is for Juicers who are are on the road, traveling, or just want to share a little bit of their world via stories and pictures. So many of us rise each morning, eager for something beautiful, inspiring, amazing, subtle, of note, and our community delivers – a view into their world, whether they’re far away or close to home – pictures with a story, with context, with meaning, sometimes just beauty. By concentrating travel updates and tips here, it’s easier for all of us to keep up or find them later.
So please, speak up and share some of your adventures and travel news here, and submit your pictures using our speedy, secure form. You can submit up to 7 pictures at a time, with an overall description and one for each picture.
You can, of course, send an email with pictures if the form gives you trouble, or if you are trying to submit something special, like a zipped archive or a movie. If your pictures are already hosted online, then please email the links with your descriptions.
For each picture, it’s best to provide your commenter screenname, description, where it was taken, and date. It’s tough to keep everyone’s email address and screenname straight, so don’t assume that I remember it “from last time”. More and more, the first photo before the fold will be from a commenter, so making it easy to locate the screenname when I’ve found a compelling photo is crucial.
Have a wonderful day, and enjoy the pictures!
Today, two pictures resurrected from the email archives. Not sure how I missed it, but I did…and there are other gems coming soon!

Male Green-crowned Brilliant, one of the many gorgeous hummingbirds in the cloud forests of Ecuador. We were in Ecuador and the Galapagos with a university Study Abroad Class studying Biology and Creative Writing in May.
It’s hard to believe they’re real and not just a clever craft or piece of art. Just amazing pictures, even if delayed. My apologies to you, Albatrossity.
Thank you so much Albatrossity, do send us more when you can.
Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.
One again, to submit pictures: Use the Form or Send an Email

Nice!

Nice pics, birds are hard to photograph, they move.

Purple tail looks like enamel rather than feathers, never seen anything like it. Cloud forests sound otherworldly, or sci fi. Thanks again, Albatrossity. Keep them coming.

Who’s a pretty bird?

Wow. What a gorgeous bird. I rarely manage to get bird shots even close to that detail — really wonderful pictures.

Thanks, all. Those birds are indeed a challenge to photograph; I won’t tell you how many shots I discarded :-)
Looks like the captions got mixed up too. The first one is a male Booted Racquet-tail (Ocreatus underwoodii), and the second one is a male Violet-tailed Sylph (Aglaiocercus coelestis).

Nothing moves as fast as a hummingbird, also, too. Great stuff!!! Love the daily picture fix, love never knowing where in the world we will be for coffee and a brekie snack.

That was my first thought — ‘those birds are masterpieces of nature.’ What an amazing thing to have been able to see them in real life. However, I do appreciate having been able to see them in such lovely photos — 99% chance I’d have never seen them in photos outside of this post. Thank you.

We have ruby-throated hummingbirds where I go on the Adirondacks.
They can be vicious trying to protect their hummingbird feeder. I’ve seen up to 12 vying for four spots. Craziness!

Wow, the amazing bird pics in the on the road threads are always my favorites. These are stunning!

Oh my god, after five months the editing notes finally arrived. I think the final Supervillain book might actually be released.
