Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

After roe, women are no longer free.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

I really should read my own blog.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

The willow is too close to the house.

Second rate reporter says what?

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

People are complicated. Love is not.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

The revolution will be supervised.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

The Fake News Washington Post, Amazon’s “chief lobbyist,” has another (of many) phony headlines, “Trump Defiant As China Adds Trade Penalties.” WRONG! Should read, “Trump Defiant as U.S. Adds Trade Penalties, Will End Barriers And Massive I.P. Theft.” Typically bad reporting!

STATEMENT FROM TRUMP: instructed ustr to consider another $100 billion in tariffs. pic.twitter.com/5k6WAsW4I7

.

Wrong again, Donald!

Two points: If China reacts in size/kind it would have to impose tariffs on all US exports to China (and more). And to add $100bn in tariffs US would probably have to start hitting consumer goods it avoided in first round. https://t.co/uFtWL98m6D

Ten Trump red states will all be hit with soybean tariffs. @hughhewitt just said this is "terrible economics and worse politics." @TheRickWilson

Trump voter and Iowa hog farmer Tim Schmidt tells me Chinese tariffs will cost him $35k/year. 3,700 jobs at risk in his county alone. If tariffs don’t change, says his vote at risk.

— Erin Burnett (@ErinBurnett) April 3, 2018

If it weren’t for all our 401(k)s and other retirement accounts, I’d be just as happy to watch Steve “Pig Muck” King trying to explain to his pork- and soybean-raising voters that those wiley ChiComs just have more experience at this whole international trade stuff than the Party of Smoot-Hawley Mk. II…

China is smart. They are targeting Trump voters with their tariff pain. This is thought out policy and opposed to a dictate by a party of one who had no vision of how this would play out. https://t.co/zNHnyFiSID

Of the top 10 soybean producing states, Trump carried 8: Iowa, Nebraska, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Arkansas. And Minnesota, a key swing state for House control, is ranked 3rd. Trump took aim at China and hit his own base. https://t.co/7u6xoglpRa

The U.S.-China tariffs war will cost 190,000 American jobs and shave some GDP growth from the economy, according to estimate from Moody’s economist. https://t.co/DgKj9UFcCo

    It’s actually as funny as hell. Treasury has “spiked” or hasn’t gotten around to actually doing the paperwork on the first round of tariffs,

    ( basically said Treason Tribbles twit’s arn’t actually policy)

    China did do the paperwork on the first round, and the second round should be ready Monday/Tuesday.

    I don’t believe there will be any actual change at all. Trump will instruct the US ambassador to tell the Chinese he was jes’ funnin’ them, then he’ll go on Twitter and announce to America that his bluff worked and the Chinese backed down. That fact that this wouldn’t be true wouldn’t make any difference – none of his other lies seem to be generating a lot of pushback.

    (CNN)Two years before the housing market collapsed in 2008 and millions of Americans lost their homes, Donald Trump said he was hoping for a crash.

    “I sort of hope that happens because then people like me would go in and buy,” Trump said in a 2006 audiobook from Trump University, answering a question about “gloomy predictions that the real estate market is heading for a spectacular crash.”

    Just about everything Donnie and his Minions [do] has the effect of weakening America. We shouldn’t be surprised that that’s happening – he thinks and has explicitly said that the way for him to win is to destroy value held by anyone else.

    ‘This is boring’: Trump literally tosses out his prepared remarks during tax roundtable

    ***

    During those remarks, the president accused a migrant caravan of raping women at record levels and expressed anger at a provision of the Citizenship Clause in the Constitution that declares children born on U.S. soil are American citizens.

    “If you have a baby on our land, congratulations that baby is a United States citizen,” Trump lamented.

    Trump also repeated the false claim of widespread voter fraud in California

    Gentry republicans and media dimwits insist the tax cut will win them reelection. Drumpf exposes them, saying republican voters care about racism, not economic anxiety.

    My sympathy for Tim Schmidt is non-existent.

    You voted for this idiot. You’re getting what you deserve…a royal screwing.

    @Omnes Omnibus:

    Loesch is now saying that her point was merely Hur-hur, libtards, MLK wanted a gun permit, so suck it! and she didn’t make the claim that having a gun would have prevented his assassination.

    That sounds about right for Loesch, since she specializes in pointless non sequiturs.

    @Omnes Omnibus:

    I’ve been there. You, however, are correct that MLK never heard the shot and that carrying a weapon would have done fuck all to stop the assassination.

    You mean to say that Eric Starvo Galt didn’t shout “Hey, darkie! I’m-a shoot you in 3 … 2 … 1 …”

    Maybe Loesch thought that Ray shouted “Incoming! Pew pew pew” first.

    She’s still a fucking moron.

    @Mnemosyne:

    I’m pretty sure that Loesch doesn’t actually understand how guns work

    Somebody in the office should look at what sher’s going to say before she makes asses of them.

    @Sm*t Cl*de:

    NRA’s Dana Loesch says MLK might be alive today if he was carrying a concealed weapon

    The rifle bullet might have bounced off it.

    That would have been quite a trick. King was hit by a .30-06 caliber rifle bullet that entered his right jaw, traveled through his neck, severing his spinal cord, and stopped in his shoulder blade.
