Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Republicans in disarray!

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

Why did Dr. Oz lose? well, according to the exit polls, it’s because Fetterman won.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

We still have time to mess this up!

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

The words do not have to be perfect.

Second rate reporter says what?

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Their freedom requires your slavery.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Eh, that’s media spin. biden’s health is fine and he’s doing a good job.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Maybe Just One More Dog Post

So what I am being told is that cooking calf liver, letting it cool, slicing it into tiny pieces, and hand feeding it to your dog, making sure she goes to the bathroom, and then tucking her into bed is a bit over the top?

I THINK NOT!

Truth be told, the last picture looks like a hostage video and she might be blinking “SAVE ME FROM THIS CRAZY PERSON.”

    No, it is not.

I just realised why I like this place. It’s like soc.singles 30 years on; more mellow, like, and with dogs and cats.

ETA: but I bet she would have liked raw, bleeding calf-liver even more.

It’s liver, so not fit for human consumption. But if Lily likes it, why not? No accounting for tastes, and I give dogs wide latitude on what to eat without any criticism.

A woman who has cooked ham flavored egg custard for and pre-chewed chicken for a 21 year old toothless kitteh can throw no shade at the liver hand-feeder.

Who could resist that sweet doggy face? Of course you fed her tidbits of liver and tucked her into your bed.

For two years I cooked a special diet for a darling kitty with stomach issues, and she slept every night under the covers snuggled up against my husband every night, with her head on his pillow, so I can not criticize anyone else for such behavior .

    You’re adorable.

I would and have done almost the exact same stuff for a recovering dogger.

I have a bad right sided migraine. I usually get them on the left side of my head. I smelled imaginary cigarettes and a hand lotion that I hate the smell of this afternoon. I should have seen this one coming. Night.

I’m not normally sentimental. But I hereby second the motion for an all Lily calendar. (Whose idea was that? It was in the last few days.) One month should definitely feature the last pic here… plus maybe the second pic alongside it. For perspective.

Her brows are getting the tiniest bit furrowed as you come in closer and closer, like “Daddy’s acting really strange, but I’ll play along.”

I fell asleep early and a horrible nightmare and cramps in my calves just woke me up, so I love that you did just one more dog post. I needed it more than I knew. Love to Lily.

@Adam L Silverman: I disagree. Patterns can be combined if they are at very different scales, which these are, and they are both in neutral colors, so it looks OK to me.

Liver — great idea for her.

I think I’ll try it for my cat, who is manic about eating but is losing muscle around his spine. He’s almost hyperthyroid by the numbers, and also has a growth. Because of that, they finally agreed to test his blood.

So now he’s right under what’s considered the high number, and they say keep testing every 3-5 months. But I wonder if his behavior and weight loss and growth might be enough for a more specialist vet to recommend treatment earlier.

I’m at a loss about traveling 8 hours to consult a specialist. It feels like the right thing to do, to not wait, because I feel like he’s changing fast. Lately I feel adrift when I spend a lot time on the road; and it’s distorting (of optimism I guess) to feel so alienated. Actually painful.

The dog is in Gloucester this week for the birthday of a late 90s yo relative who enjoys him. (When he arrives, he walks in the door, goes right over to her and lays his head down on her feet.) He loves it there, has his own couch, and even has beach friends.

The first two-three days after he leaves, I’m constantly assuming he’s around somewhere. He leaves a true hole exactly his size cut out of the picture when he goes. So now I’ve become the dog who doesn’t feel right when separated from the pack. He did this to me, turned me into a piece of his pack.

@Mary G: One of the worst ways to wake up–bad nightmare AND that pain from cramps. I just looked at the sheets and I see what you mean. It looks cool actually. I’ve never understood how patterns can be combined to look good, so thanks for explaining about scale. Any other tips?

Nothing wrong with giving Lily a little extra after a rough week. She is adorable in the bed. I say this as someone who has 4 different brands of wet cat food on the dryer and two bowls of different dry cat food down at all times for my easily bored picky eater. I also switched from flannel to satin sheets a month earlier this year per the cat’s request, so I won’t roll my eyes at a home cooked meal for Lily.
