So what I am being told is that cooking calf liver, letting it cool, slicing it into tiny pieces, and hand feeding it to your dog, making sure she goes to the bathroom, and then tucking her into bed is a bit over the top?
I THINK NOT!
Truth be told, the last picture looks like a hostage video and she might be blinking “SAVE ME FROM THIS CRAZY PERSON.”
PIGL
No, it is not.
I just realised why I like this place. It’s like soc.singles 30 years on; more mellow, like, and with dogs and cats.
ETA: but I bet she would have liked raw, bleeding calf-liver even more.
Suzanne
LILLEH PUPPEH!
Lord, she doesn’t just sleep ON the bed. She sleeps IN the bed.
dlwchico
Last year I was running raw meat through the food processor so I could syringe feed it to my cat, so you’ll get no argument from me.
Elizabelle
Her is happy to be home.

Oh, those eyes!!!

@dlwchico: me neither

Please be certain about liver. That’s hellla Vit A and one can have too much. Also too: God, she’s a doll.
eclare
Nope, not too much, she had a few rough days last week. I love the last picture!
CaseyL
Little tiny dog in a great big bed.
You’ll be sleeping next to her, right?
The rest of the menagerie is gonna go on strike when they hear about “specially-cooked liver hand-fed until sated.”

eeeeeeeee those ears

the tiny little bends have destroyed me

I am done, Cole.
Simply done.
I can’t take it.
She’s not just in the bed…
She’s TUCKED IN!
BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA ??
Looking as cute as she wants to be.
Night, Lily.
Amir Khalid
Those big brown eyes … She has you hypnotised, John Cole. I just had to scroll down to keep those eyes of hers from hypnotising me.
Yutsano
“John Cole gets closer to Lily.”
“The camera creeps in…”
*Lily licks the phone*
Drunkenhausfrau
So happy to see her home. Love every moment of her. (Btw, how did the rest of the pack react to her being back and getting liver?)
Mingobat (f/k/a Karen in GA)
SQUEEEE LOOK AT THAT FACE!
Planetpundit
She deserves every morsel. Also, all the love. Sweet Lily.

Gawwwww.
trollhattan
Giant eyes. Check. Goofy ears. Check. Shiny wet nose. Check. Tiny doggie all tucked in. Check.
Night all.
Tenar Arha
Not too much IMHO. Also too, aww, now that’s adorable.
sukabi
Don’t know John. You’re not done tucking her in if you forgot to kiss her forehead and tell her she’s a good girl.
Adam L Silverman
Your bottom sheet clashes with your comforter.

@Adam L Silverman:
Now you’ve done it. (Could be a duvet.)

That face!!! It demands kisses.

@trollhattan: Regardless. Potato – potahtoe.

@Adam L Silverman: knew you were into security…didn’t know you’re also fashion police?
Christine Moriarty
Happy tears that your Lily is home…..I bet she loved the liver!
Gretchen
No, not at all over the top. Adorable girl tucked into bed, as she should be.
Xytiel
She is so incredibly cute. And you really feel her sweet gentle personality in these pictures.
Omnes Omnibus
@Adam L Silverman: West Virginia. Just let it go.
Adam L Silverman
@sukabi: Someone had to say it!
Grover Gardner
Okay, John Cole, my wife and daughter and I just howled over these photos. -) If you did nothing else today (besides fussing over Lily) you brightened our lives.
jl
It’s liver, so not fit for human consumption. But if Lily likes it, why not? No accounting for tastes, and I give dogs wide latitude on what to eat without any criticism.
Tomorrow, get her some steak.
Thanks for very cute and adorable Lilypix.
sukabi
@Adam L Silverman: really? Raise your hand if your bedding matches ALL THE TIME.
Adam L Silverman
@sukabi: Hands are up!
jl
@sukabi:
What does ‘bedding matches’ mean ?
Suzanne
Can I snark on the fact that you have a striped sheet, solid pillowcase, and weird patterned duvet?
Suzanne
@sukabi: Mine matches all the time. I buy multiple sets of plain solids that coordinate with each other. Makes matching easy!
Manyakitty
Oh, those ears! There is no possible way to spoil Lily too much.
For some reason, pictures of pets tucked in like that make me giggle/cry. I walked in the house one day and found Manya tucked into the middle of the bed, blanket pulled up to her tiny kitty chin. Cutest thing ever.
txvoodoo
She’s loving every minute of it!
It’s a joy to see her there.
Dabba
She deserves all of that and more! Who could resist that little face?
Mel
A woman who has cooked ham flavored egg custard for and pre-chewed chicken for a 21 year old toothless kitteh can throw no shade at the liver hand-feeder.
Feed that darling doggy whatever her little heart desires!
opiejeanne
Who could resist that sweet doggy face? Of course you fed her tidbits of liver and tucked her into your bed.
For two years I cooked a special diet for a darling kitty with stomach issues, and she slept every night under the covers snuggled up against my husband every night, with her head on his pillow, so I can not criticize anyone else for such behavior .

@PIGL:
Yes to raw! I’ve had both my dogs on the raw diet for years. The vet tells me they are the picture of health every year at checkup time.
Juju
You can never have too many dog posts.
You’re adorable.
Lily looks happy to me.
I would and have done almost the exact same stuff for a recovering dogger.
I have a bad right sided migraine. I usually get them on the left side of my head. I smelled imaginary cigarettes and a hand lotion that I hate the smell of this afternoon. I should have seen this one coming. Night.
eclare
@opiejeanne: Very cute!

OMFG – at a bar and just guffawed out loud when I saw the last picture.
You go Cole!

You better be singing her to sleep Cole or your job’s not done.

I’m not normally sentimental. But I hereby second the motion for an all Lily calendar. (Whose idea was that? It was in the last few days.) One month should definitely feature the last pic here… plus maybe the second pic alongside it. For perspective.
Mary G
Her brows are getting the tiniest bit furrowed as you come in closer and closer, like “Daddy’s acting really strange, but I’ll play along.”
I fell asleep early and a horrible nightmare and cramps in my calves just woke me up, so I love that you did just one more dog post. I needed it more than I knew. Love to Lily.
@Adam L Silverman: I disagree. Patterns can be combined if they are at very different scales, which these are, and they are both in neutral colors, so it looks OK to me.
Aleta
Liver — great idea for her.
I think I’ll try it for my cat, who is manic about eating but is losing muscle around his spine. He’s almost hyperthyroid by the numbers, and also has a growth. Because of that, they finally agreed to test his blood.
So now he’s right under what’s considered the high number, and they say keep testing every 3-5 months. But I wonder if his behavior and weight loss and growth might be enough for a more specialist vet to recommend treatment earlier.
I’m at a loss about traveling 8 hours to consult a specialist. It feels like the right thing to do, to not wait, because I feel like he’s changing fast. Lately I feel adrift when I spend a lot time on the road; and it’s distorting (of optimism I guess) to feel so alienated. Actually painful.
The dog is in Gloucester this week for the birthday of a late 90s yo relative who enjoys him. (When he arrives, he walks in the door, goes right over to her and lays his head down on her feet.) He loves it there, has his own couch, and even has beach friends.
The first two-three days after he leaves, I’m constantly assuming he’s around somewhere. He leaves a true hole exactly his size cut out of the picture when he goes. So now I’ve become the dog who doesn’t feel right when separated from the pack. He did this to me, turned me into a piece of his pack.
Aleta
@Mary G: One of the worst ways to wake up–bad nightmare AND that pain from cramps. I just looked at the sheets and I see what you mean. It looks cool actually. I’ve never understood how patterns can be combined to look good, so thanks for explaining about scale. Any other tips?

I have been known to hand feed minced chicken to a sick pup with a baby spoon. And both Flora, the current incumbent and the late Snarla of blessed memory always slept under blankets. Nothing OTT about it at all, right?
Isobel
Nothing wrong with giving Lily a little extra after a rough week. She is adorable in the bed. I say this as someone who has 4 different brands of wet cat food on the dryer and two bowls of different dry cat food down at all times for my easily bored picky eater. I also switched from flannel to satin sheets a month earlier this year per the cat’s request, so I won’t roll my eyes at a home cooked meal for Lily.
SFAW
Aaiieeeeeeee! The Cuteness!! It BURNZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!
She’s a lucky puppy, and her owner is lucky, too.
CliosFanboy nee Woodrowfan
awwwwww, I’d do the same. what a sweetie…
donnah
She’s so adorable that I would just carry her around like a baby all day. So, no, you aren’t going overboard. Besides, she’s your baby and no one tells you how to take care of her.
Geeno
Too much?!?! Good God, man, it’s the least you could do.
Those eyes – she’s the hypno-dog.
NorthLeft12
No John, you are definitely not going overboard. This is what we do for those we love, and it seems so easy in return for all they have given to us.
Murmeltier
OMG, you’re killing me! Could Lily be any more adorable?
(Of course she could!)

That last pic is more like ‘Hey why are you hitting me with that flashy thingy? I’m trying to sleep here. Turn out the light please.”
Jerry
What a sweet li’l pup.
My old grandma of a dog can’t up into beds or couches anymore and I’m afraid that her time may be running out. She’s still such a sweet a lady.

Over the top? That’s the bare minimum, sir.

These pictures make me think that Lily must have a book written about her.

@Manyakitty: Ohhhh, so your nym comes from Manya-kitty. I always read it as Many-a-kitty! Sounded like a house I’d like to visit!
