She got a solid seven hours sleep, had breakfast, her morning meds, and I actually lost sight of her for about twenty minutes and when I realized she was not in the same room with me, I looked out the window and she was in the backyard pooping, peeing, sniffing, with her tail up and just prancing about. Being a dog, basically.
When I see her just lying there, being relaxed and comfortable, I can just feel my blood pressure dropping.

Go Lily!! Continue to get well. She’s a beauty.

Pictures of Lily – I haven’t thought of that song in a long time. Also, we need a Lily photo book for blood pressure maintenance.
schrodingers_cat
Great news and lovely photo. {{{ }}} to both Lily and Lily baap (father).

@Brooklyn Dodger: that is a sublime song. Speaking as a Whovian, it’s one of my favorites from their early catalog. Nice reference!

What a beautiful girl. Keep up the good work, Lily.

Lily on the mend, settling back in.

Yay Lily!
I’m sure you mentioned this and I missed it, but how long before you know for sure whether the lymphoma’s in remission?

Know how you feel.

Lily has such a beautiful face. I’m glad you’re having a good morning with that sweet girl, John.

Who’s the bestest girl? Lily is!

Such good news. May it be the start of a peaceful, happy day.

So it looks like she’s not having side effects from chemo? That is awesome. This post makes me really happy.
I’ve probably posted this link before, but I love it so I’m doing it again- in 1940, playwright Eugene O’Neill and his wife lost their dog to old age, and her grief was so intense that O’Neill wrote this lovely tribute to comfort her- I don’t think of him as having been a particularly kind person, and the humor and warmth and sweetness in this piece is really moving. And, it’s nice to be reminded that humanity’s intense love for our animal companions is not all that new- from the great writers of the American Theatre to those of us who do most of our writing posting comments on blogs, we all adore our pets.

It’s wonderful to hear, and see, that Lily is doing so well. You (both of you) are in our thoughts always.

@Nicole: Thank you so much for posting that. I hadn’t seen it before and it’s lovely. Sad and beautiful and loving.

@Nicole:
That is funny and beautiful.

You know, that thing you said about your blood pressure dropping may not even be metaphorical. I went Stateside and spent some quality time with my sweetheart around Easter, and at one point I did my daily BP check while we were snuggled together, and my pressure was significantly lower. Wouldn’t surprise me if Lily has a similar effect on you.

Don’t think it was planned, but when I clicked on Morning Pupdate, I got the Dingo ate my Baby banner text.
Glad that your update was happy enough that I didn’t feel bad for laughing. You (and Lily) deserve this.

Never too many pupdates! Lily is the best girl! So glad to see her home, relaxed and doing so well. She’s such a sweetie. How are the other dogs and Steve interacting with her? Everything okay there?
Just seeing the pictures lowers my blood pressure. Keep ’em coming!

Totally OT but there is a photo of thew two First ladies walking on the WH grounds in stiletto heels. How do they manage not to fall over? :-)

@skyweaver: @Steeplejack: Yeah, that Eugene O’Neill guy wasn’t too bad at putting words together, huh? ;)

I was so thrilled to see this picture and the ones below when I got up this morning. I’d be happy if every single post had a picture of Lily.

Thanks so much for the Lily updates! I look forward to them and am so glad and relieved that she’s doing well. Looking at her sweet face in the pics lowers my blood pressure too. She just has such a calm, happy serene demeanor. If only you could bottle that shit.

That is a good girl. Yes she is. Yes she is.

Thanks for the update, Cole.
Morning Lily ??

She has great ears.

@Nicole: @Nicole: oh, my Lord, now I am so teary I can hardly see. I’m with you, I never would have imagined Eugene O’Neill writing something like that about a dog.
BTW, I did read your comment about your horse dying. We just buried our steadiest hunt horse earlier ths year – an Irish sport horse mare named Shamrock. She had been ailing, fell and broke her shoulder and had to be euthanized. One of those horses i just loved, she made me feel so safe on her back even when she was acting squirrelly.

All good news. Thanks for the pupdate. I’m sitting here reading how Greenland may be melting fast for a sea level rise of 1ft by 2050 and that’s bad news (but in time to peasants with pitchforks everyone responsible, so. Win?) and I needed a smile.

Yay Lily! So happy for the both of you. A small ray of sunshine in such a shit show of a world.

Such good news! She will be fine, I just know it.
Yesterday, I remembered that my nephew and his girlfriend’s doggy had mysteriously came down with a similar illness, a few years back. He’s a young pittie rescue, always seemed as healthy as the rambunctious horse he acts like. He’s well cared for, lives inside most of the time except for dog park walkies and trips to the mountains. So no one could figure out what could have caused it when they woke up one day to find him vomiting and pooping blood, and barely able to walk.
They took him to the vet who was definitely puzzled. They ran lots of tests, which showed thrombocytopenia, and he got a transfusion, too. They were students, so they didn’t want to order all the expensive testing suggested to make the most accurate diagnosis, but $1200 bucks (via generous donations from family and a Go Fund Me) and a few more visits later, he miraculously went back to normal. That was 2+ years ago, and he’s been healthy ever since.
I keep wondering if this was a temporary, transitory thrombocytopenia caused by an undiagnosed parasitic/bacterial/ viral infection (eg, tick or flea transmitted)–it happens in cats after certain ones. Why not doggo’s too?
Just keep up the hope, John. She’s a little fighter.
Paula
Yay!

That is so lovely.

Yay Lily! Hope for much, much more of this!
@d58826:
Chronic use of high heals shortens the calf muscles and associated tendons, so they may not be able to walk in anything but stilettos. They might even be able to just balance on the balls of their feet and you’d never know they were walking on a surface like grass. That’s only half snarky; I knew a woman who was in assisted living in her early 70’s only because she had spent her life in these things and could not wear anything but because her calves were so tight. She was in that facility because she had balance troubles and could no longer wear them, and because she couldn’t wear anything less than that, she was in assisted living with no other physical or mental problems but stuck in a wheelchair. High heals are bad for you!
RedDirtGirl
So glad! Thank you for sharing Lily with us!

I would be willing to chip in to get you a helmet cam you can wear all day and let us stream Lily 24/7. That’s how much I live for pupdates.

Great to see Lily doing so well. And reduction in BP of pet owners has been known scientifically for a while:
