On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
Good Morning All,
This weekday feature is for Juicers who are are on the road, traveling, or just want to share a little bit of their world via stories and pictures. So many of us rise each morning, eager for something beautiful, inspiring, amazing, subtle, of note, and our community delivers – a view into their world, whether they’re far away or close to home – pictures with a story, with context, with meaning, sometimes just beauty. By concentrating travel updates and tips here, it’s easier for all of us to keep up or find them later.
So please, speak up and share some of your adventures and travel news here, and submit your pictures using our speedy, secure form. You can submit up to 7 pictures at a time, with an overall description and one for each picture.
You can, of course, send an email with pictures if the form gives you trouble, or if you are trying to submit something special, like a zipped archive or a movie. If your pictures are already hosted online, then please email the links with your descriptions.
For each picture, it’s best to provide your commenter screenname, description, where it was taken, and date. It’s tough to keep everyone’s email address and screenname straight, so don’t assume that I remember it “from last time”. More and more, the first photo before the fold will be from a commenter, so making it easy to locate the screenname when I’ve found a compelling photo is crucial.
Have a wonderful day, and enjoy the pictures!
The form is wonky, but I hope to get that solved later this week. Thanks for your patience.
My apologies, no pictures today. I’m sorting out some tech issues with my computer. Hopefully you crafty jackals can DIY again!
Today, pictures from valued commenter <>.
Thank you so much, <>, do send us more when you can.
Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.
One again, to submit pictures: Use the Form or Send an Email

Insomnia is kicking my ass, again. Which should make me more productive, but somehow isn’t. I am practicing my art, which is mostly just doing weird things to try out techniques — here’s one just for the jackals.

Wow, beautiful pictures, !

Since you’re here, Alain, I’d like to report that for me page refreshes on this site seem unable to conclude by themselves, but just go on and on and on. I have to stop them manually. (I’m on Firefox and Win 7.) Anything you can do?
p.a.
@jacy: That’s nice!

@jacy: That is great, although that is the least vicious jackal I’ve ever seen! The portrait of Badger is amazing. Do you draw by hand on a tablet?
**Everyone who likes Penzey’s spices, they are doing a giveaway of your choice of one 1/4 cup jar, one 1/2 cup jar, and a 3/4 bag of their top 20 spices free. Ends today at 1 pm EDT/10 am PST.
It’s in honor of immigrants and there is the usual lovely email:
There’s a lot more, all good.
I am also fighting insomnia and will go back to bed again. If you follow Twitter, the hashtag #HomeToVote about Irish men and women flying in from all corners of the globe to vote to give women the right to choose made me weepy, but in a good way.

(Audience, in unison, amidst stomping and hollering) FOCUS!
Oh, never mind.

@Mary G:
I drawn in Illustrator with a mouse, mostly , but I got a tablet for Mother’s Day from the kids, so I’m working on that too. The thing I like best about digital art is that it’s much easier to erase. I do a LOT of erasing…….

@jacy:
That’s a very sweet jackal. How may one view the picture of Badger that Mary G mentioned? (Might not see your reply for a while, as I, too, am an insomniac heading back to bed for a few hours.)
jacy
@SiubhanDuinne:
It’s in my photostream — but here’s a direct link.

@jacy: I love this! I’m pretty good with a mouse — do a lot of Photoshop — but I’m always impressed by people who can actually draw with one.

Since we’re DIY today, here are some more pictures from Antarctica. I was going through them last night to submit a few to the National Geographic travel photo contest.

Those are some great pictures from Antarctica–thanks for sharing!
WaterGirl
@jacy: I loved the one you did of Betty’s new pup. Hoping you do another one of him with his face turned up in what seems to be his classic expression in most of his photos. It’s so endearing.
WaterGirl
@Mary G: Thanks for the hot tip! If not for you, I wouldn’t have seen my email in time to get this deal.
eclare
@jacy: Oh, the drawings are great, and Badger is so cute! Have you sent it to Betty C?
eclare
@arrieve: Those are otherworldly, I would have a hard time choosing which ones. Good luck!

@arrieve: Wow! I used to know the reason the ice looks blue, but that info (along with much more) is no longer accessible. Can’t defrag. Need to rely on goog & pedia to find out.

@arrieve:
Excellent pictures!
