Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

We are learning that “working class” means “white” for way too many people.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

Stand up, dammit!

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

Good lord, these people are nuts.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

So very ready.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

I just had a really, really lazy day, even by my standards, but I did check the peeps:

I think we are going to need a bigger nest.

We had a mockingbird nest in our rhododendron once that we could see from our living-room window. It was really cute. The mockingbird parents could dive-bomb cats like you wouldn’t believe.

That one on the edge is about to fly, be free! He’s even shedding the downy feathers that are so cute on baby birds. You done good, Cole.

@zhena gogolia: There was a mockingbird near the Brookings Institution on Massachusetts Avenue in DC that would divebomb pedestrians like nobody’s business. Brookings(?) would put up a sign warning folks to stay way clear of the nest.

No idea if the mockingbird family is still at Brookings. Anyone know?

I hope John doesn’t have an episode like Tony Soprano did when the ducks left his swimming pool Oh By the Way, if you are a fan of Netflix, I suggest the 2nd season of Fauda, the Israeli thriller, and also Black Crows about life under ISIS in Iraq.

The Cavaliers are going to the finals! Fantastic last quarter! They weren’t supposed to win tonight!

I still can’t believe that morons burned his jersey when he left for Miami. Because he can’t advance his career and has to play for your enjoyment for the rest of eternity.

Downtown Westerville OH had a squirrel that would fake attack pedestrians from his tree. He’d run down branches screaming away at someone, acting like he was going to jump on you. Best as I could tell he never did.

Cole, is there something wrong with your cat? I noticed in that recent picture, the one where he’s shaved, that either he’s retaining water or else he’s WAY overweight. Hope it’s the latter, as you can always put him on a diet, and not the former.

@Ruckus: The nerve of some animals!

Tech question: Are we all supposed to be restarting our routers? On the FTF NYTimes website right now:

F.B.I.’s Urgent Request: Reboot Your Router to Stop Russia-Linked Malware

Hoping to thwart a sophisticated malware system linked to Russia that has infected hundreds of thousands of internet routers, the F.B.I. has made an urgent request to anybody with one of the devices: Turn it off, and then turn it back on.

The malware is capable of blocking web traffic, collecting information that passes through home and office routers, and disabling the devices entirely, the bureau announced on Friday.

A global network of hundreds of thousands of routers is already under the control of the Sofacy Group, the Justice Department said last week. That group, which is also known as A.P.T. 28 and Fancy Bear and believed to be directed by Russia’s military intelligence agency, hacked the Democratic National Committee ahead of the 2016 presidential election, according to American and European intelligence agencies.

The F.B.I. has several recommendations for any owner of a small office or home office router. The simplest thing to do is reboot the device, which will temporarily disrupt the malware if it is present. Users are also advised to upgrade the device’s firmware and to select a new secure password. If any remote-management settings are in place, the F.B.I. suggests disabling them.

Hope the Tarp of Salvation works right first time, every time.

The one on the edge does look ready to go, doesn’t he? Some of them may never need the Tarp of Salvation, just head out over the lawn… ‘Til they land boom head over heels.

    @Elizabelle: Yep technewsworld.com/story/FBI-Declaws-Russian-Fancy-Bear-Botnet-85356.html
The reboot lets infected routers contact an FBI computer seized from hackers. They are supposedly going to use that to help clean up the infection.

First season of Fauda was really good. Today I needed to see only pleasant things so I watched Ugly Delicious. I highly recommend it.

If anyone is looking for a really good musical offering, Bob Dylan’s Theme Time Radio Hour is online for streaming. Not able to link now, but it’s easy to find.

Just got back from a weekend away in Santa Barbara. Annie is so proud of her lion cut that she actually let the pet sitter look at her.

We hung out in a city park while we were there that had seagulls swimming around in the pond like they were ducks. Whenever they would jump out of the pond to wander around on shore, a little girl who was about 4 years old would chase them back into the pond gleefully shouting, “Seagulls seagulls seagulls!”

Ha! holiday weekend means I have had a chance to read and am caught up with postings in real time for the first time since…. who knows? Been quite a while. Hi y’all!

Dunno why I feel like cannot comment on the latest, if have skipped some posts and am not really “up to date”. I think maybe is a hangover from when there used to be so many fewer (is that the right construction? Looks odd!) posters to keep up with. Anyhoo, hope you all are having a nice holiday weekend. Just back from a trip to Greece last week! Will send pix to Alain and try the fancy new submission form, if it is working. All new all the time around here.
