Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

A fool as well as an oath-breaker.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

I think it’s Spain versus Portugal?

I know nothing about this, just responding to a request. Have at it.

I liked Hierro as a player, and he is more or less an innocent victim of Perez’ megalomania, so I’m happy to see Spain winning.

Holy shit! Ronaldo just scored a hat trick and tied up the game 3-3!

I know it is easy to hate Ronaldo, but he is absolutely a brilliant player.

My normal office is under construction this summer, so I have been moved into a temporary office in a classroom…

Which has a computer with video streaming capability, a projector, and a wall-sized screen.

This is going to be a good June.

Um…not so fast. The second (or maybe third-) best player in the world who thinks he’s #1 just curdled Spain’s milk.

Yes Ronaldo is an absolutely brilliant player, but a key difference between Ronaldo (worthy nominee for best player in the world) and the player who actually is the best player in the world is that Messi doesn’t dive, nor whine more than a vinyard.

I get a chuckle out of the folks on Twitter regularly referring to this as the “Men’s World Cup.” Which is accurate, frankly.

Great game. Ronaldo is The Man but Espana actually looked like the better team. Portugal should be working the Beads that got the tie and Ronaldo exists

Absolutely stunning performance from Ronaldo. There are no more superlatives. I’m a Messi man all the way, but got-damn Ronaldo is an extraordinary player who continues to marvel. Liverpool may have held him in check during the Champions League final, but the man is simply brilliant.

Spain should have won that game by four goals. Hell, Costa had two worldies that are now pushed to the far back seat of the bus.

    @The Ancient Randonneur:

No, not fun here in Spain this evening.

It was very quiet after the opening goal. We were in a wine bar and heard a communal groan after the 1st goal from the street. Reminds me of 4 years ago. High expectations dashed then, maybe not as bad tonight.

Heard people wanting to send Ronaldo to England during the game. Probably half of Madrid is torn.

Meanwhile, Egypt left the still-recovering Mo Salah on the bench and lost their opening match, 1-0 to Uruguay.
