Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Infrastructure week. at last.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

I was promised a recession.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

He really is that stupid.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Back to the phones

And here is the repackaged Graham-Cassidy proposal from the Heritage Foundation and Rick Santorum.

TLDR: Don’t get sick

A coalition of conservative groups releases an outline of their Obamacare repeal plan. Presser comes tomorrow.

It tracks with Graham-Cassidy as a grant program. Ends essential health benefits, age ratio and minimum loss ratio. pic.twitter.com/zOqLB3amTd

The full plan has not been released yet, but the way that the program is set up is that insurance companies are allowed to underwrite and age rate at whatever level they want. Additionally, eligible individuals can take a per capita allotment to spend as they see fit on health insurance. This is great for the young and statistically likely to be healthy. If you are a 38 year old with Stage 4 cancer (like a friend of mine) taking a $100,000 a year oral chemo that so far is working, good luck as no insurer will cover you and the $241 a month in per-capita allotment is not even enough to be insulting.

So you know what to do: back to the phones and give your Senators and Representatives a piece of your mind.

    So, let’s review:

The current state of Republican policy…

    1. Concentration camps for kids.

    2. Kill the sick.

This is a party that needs to be burned to the ground.

Why that shitstain Santorum is still troubling this country with his prescence is damning evidence of our failure. I did enjoy seeing him publicly belittled Sunday on CNN. He should be shunned until he finally goes away.

So their plan is to use the cover of the outrage against ripping children from parents to pass this abomination. They are beyond evil.

    I’ll call today.

God damn these hypocrites. Notice the clause “Life is Protected.” Reminds me of the bumpersticker: Republicans [heart] you until you’re born.

What does wingnut welfare recipient Santorum’s health insurance look like? Not much like this I would assume.

Really, I’m on the verge of just randomly screaming obscenities at the people I know are Republicans.

This level of hatred I feel is toxic.

@Bex: Santorum has a daughter with severe disabilities. Wonder what she’s going to do once she turns 26 under this plan.

@Yarrow: Adults with severe disability have always been covered by Medicaid, so no need to worry about Ms Santorum.

The first thing I did this morning was call Rob Portman’s offices to ask each intern why Portman wasn’t signing on with Feinstein to get those babies out of those cages (“Senator Portman is studying the legislation”).

Now I have to call them back this afternoon to save the lives of the rest of us? I’m with Satby, I’m ready to pull a rabid bobcat on all the Republicans in my life.

P.S. Sorry to hear about your friend, David. Here’s hoping his treatment continues to work for a good long time with minimal side effects.

Does anybody know whether this vote will need 50 or 60 votes in the senate?
