Secretary Nielsen privately told lawmakers the Administration may go back to separating children from their parents. Congress must ensure that NEVER happens. It is shockingly difficult for immigration attorneys to locate children separated from their parents at the border. Today I spoke to lawyers who represent more than 400 parents. They've located two children.

Apropos of the Hayes tweet, I do think it’s time for me to start asking supporters of “zero tolerance” whether they want to apply that standard to everyone in the Trump Administration.
@randy khan: They’re white rich people. Of course not!
Another sociopath for trump.
hearing stories about the Border Patrol refusing asylum entries at the POE’s, so they’re “forcing” those that desperately want to be in the US to cross illegally, where presto chango, now they’ve committed a misdemeanor and have the case for being detained, self fulfilling prophecy? Hayes last tweet about Kushner et al is incredibly telling about how Trump viewed damn near everything, with him, laws don’t, haven’t picked a side, well then you’re obviously against him and the full punitive weight of the legal system and whatever else he can throw together will be used against you.

Because, you know, non-Americans aren’t really human. But that leads me to wonder, seeing as the spousal unit is from the Philippines and is a naturalized U.S. citizen, but has dual-citizenship status, does that make her half-human? And what about foreigners with permanent residency visas? I wish the all-knowing muses of Fox would let us know.
Oh, God, now they’ve discovered that the little girl in the red shirt wasn’t separated from her mother but has been detained with her. We’ll never hear the end of this.

Weasel Face’s nefarious plan: REALLY piss off federal district court judges one by one until they all die if apoplexy.
Seriously, IANAL but i bet that word gets around, from district to district, as injunctions come down and hearings begin. Some judge is going to get really pissed and open up the federal contempt sneezer for these assholes. I’m sure Nielsen already has a reserved space.
One of my biggests frustrations with the wingnut right is that the very simple (and undisputatble) message in Hayes’ tweet just bounces right off. Stupidity/racisim/opportunism combine to form a very effective shield against reality.

As horrible as Trump’s response to the hurricane devastation in Puerto Rico was, at least that clusterfuck was in response to an actual crisis. This is a manufactured crisis. The wanton cruelty and stunning incompetence on display at the southern border are happening because an addled, racist prick wants to gin up his base of addled, racist pricks.
Isn’t there some sort of abuser meme about this? “Look what you made me do!”
@Betty Cracker: Are there racist pricks who aren’t addled? Just wondering about the distinction.
As I’ve long said, those who proclaim white supremacy have the least about which to consider themselves supreme. I mean it’s not like proponents of white culture get together and regale one another with recitations of Shakespeare sonnets.
I love these Tweet compilations, keep it coming!
Break up the families. ‘Misplace’ the children. Don’t bother with documentation. This is the policy.
Normally, one blames incompetence rather than conspiracy– but we’re talking about bureaucrats here. Bureaucrats following orders. This is implementation of a policy of doing as much damage as possible as rapidly as possible.

Yes. Some racist pricks are just unaddled evil – although, to be fair, they’re part of Trump’s base too.

There was no immigration crisis or border crisis until January 2017. The current situation is the deliberate policy created the current occupant of the WH under the guidance of anti-immigrant think tanks of Tanton. FAIR, CIS, Numbers USA and the senators Sessions and Grassley who have been long term sympathizers of these policies.

Sure is a good thing Trumpers love that small government!
@Betty Cracker: He is following a plan though, his actions are not random. He is following the long term immigration haters handbook perfected for decades by the various think tanks founded by Tanton. USCIS and ICE is staffed with these ideologues now.
Steve Miller was Sessions aide and Frank Cissna (USCIS head) was Grassley’s. They know fully well what they are doing. None of this is an accident.
@randy khan: “Zero tolerance for some, infinite tolerance for others” is how that policy has always worked.

They don’t want to live in the world, they want to live in their own little world. They are all toddlers. They like drumpf because he has the maturity of a 5 yr old. His world is the one in his head, where his fort has only white people in it. Racists are basically isolationists. The world they can understand is a tiny little place with no one in it that doesn’t look like them and/or have exactly the same values. They have simple minds, they can’t comprehend that people that don’t look like them can be in any way equal. Seven billion people? Doesn’t compute. People that don’t look like them? Doesn’t compute that they are people. Money is green dollars when it isn’t gold. That computes for them, any other color or name is phony. They are simple people, salt of the earth. Too much will kill you of course.
It’s nice to think that white people really only make up what a billion or two in this world, the other 5-6 billion aren’t white. And even a good portion of the white people don’t give a shit about the color/language/origin of anyone else. ‘
We can win, we just have to work at it. Those racist fucks are a lost cause, on their last bender.
I was just looking at Trump’s morning tweet stream and the replies.
Leading up to the election in 2016 we heard all sorts of talk from right wingers that they will take actions via 2nd Amendment solutions if things don’t go their way. At the time I discounted it as talk from losers. After the election though, far too many of these same folks crowed their victory and said how sad they were that they now couldn’t shoot dirty libs. That scared me.
Seeing what those same groups are now saying, when they get crushed come this November’s elections (and they will be crushed thank FSM) I am now worried some of these nut cases will do exactly that. It isn’t as if the Administration is trying to calm them. No, this administration is trying to spin it up. Shit is going to get real. Come the post election period, be careful out there. We don’t want to be caught in their insanity.
@schrodingers_cat: Seems like there’s been an “are they Master-Minds or Shit-Lords?” conundrum from day one. I’m on Team Shit-Lords. Doesn’t mean the animus that motivates them isn’t older than the republic or that there aren’t plans that predate their actions. But the evidence that reaches my own eyes and ears tells me these Trump people are dick-stomping incompetents who are not exactly running a well-oiled machine. That may be the only thing that’s saving the country is a larger sense so far, IMO, though it’s no comfort to the people caught up in the present evil.
@Cermet: And if Cheney would take the mass murderer and war criminal Henry Kissinger with him that would be the elderly psychopath trifecta.

So apparently Trump’s decided the crying children at the border is a conspiracy. This really sounds like Trump is well into dementia now because it’s really hard to see how “crying children” wouldn’t be anticipated result of this policy. Makes also me wonder if The Tonight’s Show parody of Miller as a man child who’s only friends are a cage full of rats and incapable of empathy isn’t way to close to the mark.
Seriously, as politically strategy how does this family separation policy benefits even the Trumpsters? Wouldn’t it be easier just to turn the refuges back at the border ? It’s not like Trump’s base is going to do anything but vote Trump.

Unsurprisingly there are vestiges of British influence in post colonial India especially among the small slice of Indians who were low to mid level bureaucrats for the Empire (the English speaking elite). But Britain ceased to be a destination for ambitious Indians since the 70s at least, which would be my parents’ generation. The relatives I have in England are my grandparents’ generation. So Britain’s influence over India waned long before Brexit.

Come on. We all know this isn’t about nationality, or Trumpites wouldn’t be talking about how we need more immigration from countries like Norway. This is about race and ethnicity. That’s why black people and Latinos whose families have been in this country for generations are still treated like dirt while Melania Trump is treated like a decent human being.

Conservatives have always wanted whatever they had before, anything new scares them. It’s not the brakes on too rapid of change, it’s change from some ideal that never actually existed that they want. They also want a cookie and a binkey but that’s another issue.
Conservatives have at times been less obvious about what they want but that what hasn’t changed in eons. They say they are protecting what is but that is a smoke screen. What they want is a return to when they had power and could be assholes to everyone else. Same as it ever was.

The fact that it’s morally wrong, wrong from an efficiency perspective, and causes great amounts of turmoil and is unsafe just makes it even better. That’s how much better white guys are than mexicans, don’t you understand? We can get away with explicitly breaking the law even when it causes all those other problems.
@The Moar You Know: The second most enraging thing about this (other than the obvious) is that the obvious follow up is: “So when you implemented this policy, you didn’t know that this would be a consequence? If this wasn’t your intention, it seems someone failed pretty miserably. Who is being fired over this colossal failure of planning?”
@sdhays: It was their intention. They did say that they want to get rid of the “infestation”. They get no benefit of the doubt.
@Teddys Person: Some in this country are sadly irretrievably lost to hate, or delusion, or fear. Only thing to do is to beat them at the polls and then try to help them, or just keep them occupied in the least harmful ways possible, while we repair the damage done.
@Betty Cracker: They can be both. I think they are master minds. They have more stamina and focus than the left. They know exactly what they want to do and when they’re rebuffed in one way, they bide their time until they have power and undermine that institution until it’s an ally. They are also incompetents because they want the world to conform to their opinions and half baked educations. It doesn’t, that’s why they fail. Their beliefs do not conform to reality and reality doesn’t give a flying fuck about them. This doesn’t dissuade them. And all those bright shining young white people learn from their failures and pick up the burden of undermining and misinforming the masses.
Meanwhile, moderates & leftists tend to lose focus, expend energy on personal crusades and fall out over disagreement on very big plans that are very glamorous compared to daily drudge work. The lessons good people have to learn from this is, much like the vigilance of MInas Ithil or The Wall, if you fade in watchfulness, the bad guys won’t.

He was embarrassed that Daddy went on one of his crazy rants in public, but he still agreed with Daddy. ?
I feel exactly the same. But we keep having “last straws,” and they keep outdoing themselves.
Years of ugly litigation over the value of the land being taken will ensue. Trump probably has no fucking clue that the Gubmint has to pay.
@schrodingers_cat: Of course it was, and any interviewer should force them to acknowledge that. Another suitable, possibly better, followup would have to ask Sessions why he didn’t seem to think it was a problem just a couple days ago if that wasn’t what the policy was intended to do.

Pretty much. I always wonder what the breaking point for these people will be and I’m always bitterly surprised at how low they’ll go and what they’ll defend. Talk about slouching towards fascism.
Stealing from his own base. Imagine!
I think that part of the disconnect is that people who are not driven by a desire for power don’t understand those who are, and consistently underestimate that drive. They think that people who primarily want power over other people can be placated with money or societal good.
They can’t be bought off or placated. They want power, and the whole point of getting it is to step on other people on the way. For people who crave power, getting to use it in ways both big and small against other people is the whole point.
According to NPR: the White House is “fuming” that the picture of the crying girl was not of a girl separated from her mother.
How on earth does it fucking matter? Beyond, of course, that the big tell was that the picture was of a girl when we’re not allowed to see them.
Whenever I see “The White House” now, I’m just going to mentally replace it with “fucking pieces of garbage and excrement”.
@Greenergood: Also too – Ronnie Raygun’s Central American CIA policies. We never look back, and then the land mine these bastards left behind blows up on us.
so disgusted by the parading of victims of undocumented immigrants. straight out of the nazi playbook. fuck. i wish i had faith in the decency of americans not to fall for it, but his base has shown they have none.
i also had a moment of panic thinking about those girls and babies that haven’t been seen. wtf, how is it possible for their not be any oversight allowed? when the hell did we turn into a fascist state? i know the answer, but it’s enraging that the GOP is playing along while who-knows-what the hell is happening with these kids. fuck.

Sessions is a lawyer and AG of the US – surely he’s come across the legal maxim: “you intend the natural consequences of your actions” .
RAICES just got about 17mil in donations and they can’t hire translators? I mean … gosh. The languages they’re looking for … Are their lawyers all volunteers too? In any case, translation is a professional career and they should be paid.
@VeniceRiley: The money is for posting bail. Turns out that if the asylum seeker can post bail they can get immediately released because it’s a misdemeanour. The plan is to have people at the places they bring their arrestees to so they can help put up bail. The lawyers are there to be officers of the court and represent the asylum seekers so as to restrain the natural pigfuckery of the ICE people, and the translators are to help the refugees communicate with their lawyers so that the lawyers can start the process of demanding contact with their children through the courts.
@polyorchnid octopunch: So the lawyers are volunteers?
And yay for my CEO who just put the word out for translators and donors and volunteers for several orgs addressing this issue.
@Ruckus: not sure we can share a country with these pustules- not sure I want to…
Translators are tough because a lot of these refugees speak Mayan and other native languages, not Spanish. Finding people who can translate those languages at all is very tough, and the few professionals available are booked up with existing cases.

Krauthammer is said to have shouted down his rabbi at his temple during a sermon at a high holy day service. I would have had security remove him, and refunded a pro-rated amount of his contributions/dues, and told him NOT to come back. But I’m not Jewish.
Are you a registered Republican? Because your comments seem either naive or misplaced… or Republican.
Use Google to look up charities if you have questions about their finances, structure and operations. All charities use lots of volunteers, duh! Doctors and lawyers volunteer. Do you?
@Tokyokie: I feel pretty sure Sessions is not going to have any difficulty recruiting sonderkommandos from ICE. If you’re not that familiar with WWII history, the sonderkommandos were the special teams from the SS (not the Waffen SS) to round up the selected group, make them dig a big pit, and then kill them and bury them in the pit. Himmler once gave a speech lamenting how hard it was to do this kind of work. Wish I could find it so I could quote it. But I believe many (most?) of the guys who work for ICE would love that kind of work.
@Enhanced Voting Techniques:
Yes, but this way they get a chance to give millions, maybe even getting up to the billions, in no-bid contract to friends of cabinet members.
