There was no immigration crisis or border crisis until January 2017. The current situation is the deliberate policy created the current occupant of the WH under the guidance of anti-immigrant think tanks of Tanton. I was just looking at Trump’s morning tweet stream and the replies.
Leading up to the election in 2016 we heard all sorts of talk from right wingers that they will take actions via 2nd Amendment solutions if things don’t go their way. At the time I discounted it as talk from losers. After the election though, far too many of these same folks crowed their victory and said how sad they were that they now couldn’t shoot dirty libs. That scared me.
Seeing what those same groups are now saying, when they get crushed come this November’s elections (and they will be crushed thank FSM) I am now worried some of these nut cases will do exactly that. It isn’t as if the Administration is trying to calm them. No, this administration is trying to spin it up. Shit is going to get real. Come the post election period, be careful out there. Makes also me wonder if The Tonight’s Show parody of Miller as a man child who’s only friends are a cage full of rats and incapable of empathy isn’t way to close to the mark.

I demand a new rotating head.
Some moron submitted the rotating head “It’s turtles all the way down!’ I think that was me. I think I submitted that one after some thread about Yertle McTurtle in the Senate.
I demand that rotating head be changed to “Trump: he’s lies all the way down’ Or something similar. Some better word smither can improve it I am sure.
Edit: BTW, three or four of the most idiotic rotating heads I submitted have disappeared. Surely time for a blogger ethics panel for that crime.

@Patricia Kayden:
There are specific places – points of entry, where you are supposed to go and present yourself to apply for asylum. ONLY at those points, is it considered LEGAL.
ANY other point -it’s an ILLEGAL crossing.
But….THESE MUTHAPHUCKAS ARE BLOCKING THOSE LEGAL POINTS OF ENTRY.
THUS FORCING THESE PEOPLE TO CROSS ILLEGALLY – CHARGING THEM WITH A CRIME AND TAKING AWAY THEIR CHILDREN.

Good to have that officially confirmed by the court stenographer.

@Mnemosyne: Until yesterday I tried to keep up a little fantasy that at least one Trumpster could do a half-way decent job. When FLOTUS held some inclusive neighborhood kids days in the WH veggie garden, seemed like she might know how to improve the situation.
Whether that jacket was an expression of her own thoughts, or a private dig at her miserable husband, makes no difference: very wrong thing to do at time like this. She is FLOTUS of a country whose leadership is eagerly committing human rights violations.

@The Moar You Know: For some reason, this made me start crying while I’ve been pretty horrified, but just resigned and resentful for the past 2 months. These languages are pre-Colonial languages spoken by people who were here before the 1492 shit hit the fan. They have managed to to survive attempted annihilation for 500+ years, and now they are driven out of their lands by the greed and avarice of a young, stupid country’s vicious president and minions. All those children speaking ancient languages, who will be forced to speak either a coloniser language, just to survive, or they won’t survive, due to many awful circumstances, not just knowing the language – and the people who run the country they’ve ended up in don’t give a shit.
MisterForkbeard
@Teddys Person: It doesn’t bounce off- I think it’s the POINT. Rich white guys get away with things and that’s great, because we can stick it to brown people on everything.
The fact that it’s morally wrong, wrong from an efficiency perspective, and causes great amounts of turmoil and is unsafe just makes it even better. That’s how much better white guys are than mexicans, don’t you understand? We can get away with explicitly breaking the law even when it causes all those other problems.

@The Moar You Know: The second most enraging thing about this (other than the obvious) is that the obvious follow up is: “So when you implemented this policy, you didn’t know that this would be a consequence? If this wasn’t your intention, it seems someone failed pretty miserably. Who is being fired over this colossal failure of planning?”
schrodingers_cat
@sdhays: It was their intention. They did say that they want to get rid of the “infestation”. They get no benefit of the doubt.
jl
@Teddys Person: Some in this country are sadly irretrievably lost to hate, or delusion, or fear. Only thing to do is to beat them at the polls and then try to help them, or just keep them occupied in the least harmful ways possible, while we repair the damage done.
ruemara
@Betty Cracker: They can be both. I think they are master minds. They have more stamina and focus than the left. They know exactly what they want to do and when they’re rebuffed in one way, they bide their time until they have power and undermine that institution until it’s an ally. They are also incompetents because they want the world to conform to their opinions and half baked educations. It doesn’t, that’s why they fail. Their beliefs do not conform to reality and reality doesn’t give a flying fuck about them. This doesn’t dissuade them. And all those bright shining young white people learn from their failures and pick up the burden of undermining and misinforming the masses.
Meanwhile, moderates & leftists tend to lose focus, expend energy on personal crusades and fall out over disagreement on very big plans that are very glamorous compared to daily drudge work. The lessons good people have to learn from this is, much like the vigilance of MInas Ithil or The Wall, if you fade in watchfulness, the bad guys won’t.

@schrodingers_cat: Of course it was, and any interviewer should force them to acknowledge that. Another suitable, possibly better, followup would have to ask Sessions why he didn’t seem to think it was a problem just a couple days ago if that wasn’t what the policy was intended to do.

@ruemara:
I think that part of the disconnect is that people who are not driven by a desire for power don’t understand those who are, and consistently underestimate that drive. They think that people who primarily want power over other people can be placated with money or societal good.
They can’t be bought off or placated. They want power, and the whole point of getting it is to step on other people on the way. For people who crave power, getting to use it in ways both big and small against other people is the whole point.

According to NPR: the White House is “fuming” that the picture of the crying girl was not of a girl separated from her mother.
How on earth does it fucking matter? Beyond, of course, that the big tell was that the picture was of a girl when we’re not allowed to see them.
Whenever I see “The White House” now, I’m just going to mentally replace it with “fucking pieces of garbage and excrement”.

RAICES just got about 17mil in donations and they can’t hire translators? I mean … gosh. The languages they’re looking for … Are their lawyers all volunteers too? In any case, translation is a professional career and they should be paid.
polyorchnid octopunch
@VeniceRiley: The money is for posting bail. Turns out that if the asylum seeker can post bail they can get immediately released because it’s a misdemeanour. The plan is to have people at the places they bring their arrestees to so they can help put up bail. The lawyers are there to be officers of the court and represent the asylum seekers so as to restrain the natural pigfuckery of the ICE people, and the translators are to help the refugees communicate with their lawyers so that the lawyers can start the process of demanding contact with their children through the courts.
VeniceRiley
@polyorchnid octopunch: So the lawyers are volunteers?
And yay for my CEO who just put the word out for translators and donors and volunteers for several orgs addressing this issue.

Translators are tough because a lot of these refugees speak Mayan and other native languages, not Spanish. Finding people who can translate those languages at all is very tough, and the few professionals available are booked up with existing cases.

Are you a registered Republican? Because your comments seem either naive or misplaced… or Republican.
Use Google to look up charities if you have questions about their finances, structure and operations. All charities use lots of volunteers, duh! Doctors and lawyers volunteer. Do you?

@Tokyokie: I feel pretty sure Sessions is not going to have any difficulty recruiting sonderkommandos from ICE. If you’re not that familiar with WWII history, the sonderkommandos were the special teams from the SS (not the Waffen SS) to round up the selected group, make them dig a big pit, and then kill them and bury them in the pit. Himmler once gave a speech lamenting how hard it was to do this kind of work. Wish I could find it so I could quote it. But I believe many (most?) of the guys who work for ICE would love that kind of work.
