Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the gop

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty. ~Thomas Jefferson

Second rate reporter says what?

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

How stupid are these people?

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

Republicans do not trust women.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

Books are my comfort food!

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Petty moves from a petty man.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

This blog will pay for itself.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Let there be snark.

For quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:

For protecting them, by a mock Trial from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:

For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury:

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences:

For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

@efgoldman: Imagine coming home from work and finding a pair of smelly, muddy, young Englishmen — with guns and ammo — sitting at your table and demanding dinner and beds for the night. And they’re going to be quartered there indefinitely. You’re paid to host them, but you can’t turn them out if they shoot your kids or burn your house down. If you poison them, they’ll hang you and send your wife and kids to the workhouse. If you simply leave, they’ll confiscate your property, and give it to someone who WILL put up with their bullshit.

@Mary G: I don’t think that’s going to make much difference. The story is already developing. Jordan directing the Capital Police on a bunch of sexual assault victims he failed to protect to cover his own ass isn’t going to play well.

Some of the disturbing things DiSabato told me: "His (Jordan's) locker was located next to Doc Strauss. It was a common uncomfortable joke that Doc was a serial groper,Doc likes to hold your penis. Everyone knew it.” https://t.co/B5oew6YVhp

    — MJ Lee (@mj_lee) July 3, 2018

What’s also painful is that DiSabato says years ago, he simply didn’t have the vocabulary to precisely describe what he now understands to be sexual assault. Seeing gymnasts come out against Larry Nassar was clarifying, he says.

    — MJ Lee (@mj_lee) July 3, 2018

Asked DiSabato how he can be so sure Jim Jordan knew. He said Jordan was in many conversations where the implication was clear. DiSabato would say, "Jim, can you believe this dude?” Jordan would say something like: "If he ever touches me, I'll kill him.” https://t.co/B5oew6YVhp

I know the conspiracy theories have already started that since THE OSU hired Perkins Coie this is clearly the work of Fusion GPS and obviously part of the ongoing thing begun with the Steele Dossier. I think we’re just lucky that the wrestlers, seeing what’s happened at Michigan State, their “Dr. Nasser” who assaulted female athletes, they realized that “Doctor” Strauss was sexually abusing them!

They came to him about a sprain and he “needed” to feel their genitals, for some “medical” reason, like he liked strong young male genitals a whole lot. And their coach knew about it, and didn’t care about those young men, at all.

The whole Big 10 seems to have been eaten up with sexual abuse! Win, win, who cares about what happens in the little treatment rooms, if you’re winning. PSU, MSU, OSU, what’s going to fall next?

    @Kathleen:

Sorry–my post was unclear. I was not referring to the new sexual abuse scandal involving Republican Jim Jordan, but rather to Adam’s quoting the complaints from the Declaration.

And I in turn was referring to another line from the earlier part of the Declaration:

“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”

I have always liked that use of the word “train,” which (obviously) did not mean a locomotive engine that runs on rails, but rather a series or sequence of connected objects. Closer to the “train” of a dress. To that extent, a “train” is what “trails”, i.e. what drags behind or is dragged behind.

Anyhow–sorry to have made myself unclear.
