Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

A consequence of cucumbers

The revolution will be supervised.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

“Squeaker” McCarthy

This fight is for everything.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Let’s finish the job.

We’ll be taking my thoughts and prayers to the ballot box.

“I never thought they’d lock HIM up,” sobbed a distraught member of the Lock Her Up Party.

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Come on, man.

Let there be snark.

Sacto is too far but I’m in Santa Rosa, in NorCal till the 18th and at least one commenter thought we might have a meet up north of the bay between now and then.
    Any takers?

I guess the next question is where to lunch, I’ll be mainly by the Capitol for most of the morning and while I do have a car I really don’t know the city all that well(the last time I even drove though the city on I-5 was 1985). Suggestions?

I’m in as well. I don’t get downtown very often, except for jury duty. I would bet that Laura all the cool places for lunch.

Aw, boo. Sac is a little far out of the way for me on a Tuesday, but…

@Ruckus: I think that other north bay Juicer was me. I don’t know who else is in the area now, but I’ve got time on… Sunday. Or Friday evening.

    @MisterForkbeard:
I’m sure it was you, now, but the last few days have been, shall we say, just completely different than my normal life and I couldn’t remember for sure.
If you want, we can meet either of those days and maybe we can find some others to join us.
I believe you mentioned Petaluma, I’d rather not go farther,as I’m using my friend’s car. She’s OK with me driving but I’d prefer not to go too far.

Petaluma’s where I’m based for now, so that works for me. Anyone else interested in a quick hang out Friday afternoon or Sunday?

Damn, a lot of Juicers in CA; I thought we were ruined, crazy, and completely lacking in basic decency (/tucker carlson)?

ETA: Tucker also says CA is unaffordable. OK, that’s true.

Hey, I try to be decent. And just because we aren’t successful at it doesn’t mean we don’t want to be. Also, if what we are is, not decent, then what can we call our opposition?

I’m a lurker who may never show up, but I’ll put Urban Roots out there for brews and BBQ. Plenty of space as well.

I’m only 90 miles north of Sac. I’d love to go. Will consult my significant other.

    ?BillinGlendaleCA

    July 12, 2018 at 1:39 am

@Mo MacArbie: Thanks for the suggestion, looks like it’s not too far from the Capitol. While I don’t consume adult beverages, I don’t mind places that serve them. The ribs look pretty good. Lurkers are always welcome, we jackals don’t bit(too hard).

    July 12, 2018 at 1:41 am

@West of the Rockies: I know lunch makes it difficult, but it’s just a day trip for me. I visited the Capitol in Jerry’s first year as Governor, the next time I was in Sactown the old portion of the building was gutted. I’ve always had a thing about capitol buildings and really have wanted to go back up there for a while.

ETA: I actually have a picture of the Capitol taken in 1975 in my bathroom. It’s the only pic that I have of it(well when it was in one piece). It was taken on Kodachrome in the evening.

I’ve never been there but Cafeteria 15L is really close to the Capitol, since that is a priority.

@sacrablue: That looks good too, the french dip sounds yummy. I don’t mind a walk, maybe a half mile or so. I’m a California native so the heat doesn’t bother me too much.

    July 12, 2018 at 1:52 am

Ah the pic of the capitol just came up as wallpaper on my second screen.

I may unlurk to meet some jackals but no promises.

I’ve heard Urban Roots is very good, it’s pretty new. There are a slew of places along Capitol Avenue east of the Capitol grounds if Bill would rather walk. Jack’s Urban Eats is low key and relatively cheap at 20th and Capitol. It’s cafeteria style.

It’s likely to be in the high 90s so stay frosty!

@sacrablue: I haven’t been to 15L in a while, but when I was there last, the food was good. The meatloaf and the short ribs are both excellent comfort food.

I don’t mind walking anywhere downtown or midtown. I will leave it up to the guest of honor to decide!

    ?BillinGlendaleCA

    July 12, 2018 at 2:55 am

    @daverave: It’s OK to de-lurk.

It looks like my preference is Urban Roots, It doesn’t look like a bad walk from the Capitol and it’s not like I’ll be wearing a wool suit or anything like that(I had to do that once in DC in August), there seems to be plenty of shade on 15th Street. So, how about noon at Urban Roots?

ETA: I’ll be the short guy(I’m 5’4″) with a camera with a big lens, probably in shorts and a UCLA t-shirt.

  26. 26.

    Darkrose

    July 12, 2018 at 5:51 am

@?BillinGlendaleCA: Google says it’s a 20 minute walk. Keep in mind that it’s supposed to be 95 on Tuesday, and noon is when most of the state workers go to lunch. The parking lot is small, and the street parking is 1 hour because is a neighborhood place.

@Darkrose: I’m a really fast walker and it looks like 15th Street has a good amount of shade trees so I can probably deal with the walk.

    @?BillinGlendaleCA:

You’re right about 15th Street, it’s nothing but big shade trees the whole way other than around the light rail line.

    July 12, 2018 at 2:27 pm

@?BillinGlendaleCA: Okay. It’s far enough out from the Capitol that it’s probably a good place for noon lunch.

    Looking forward to meeting you!

    July 12, 2018 at 2:54 pm

@?BillinGlendaleCA: The front of the capitol is actually on 10th Street, if that matters. I just timed the walk from there to the restaurant at 18 minutes, also on a well-shaded route that goes through architecturally interesting neighborhoods.
