Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Republicans in disarray!

Hot air and ill-informed banter

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Fight them, without becoming them!

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

Dumb motherfuckers cannot understand a consequence that most 4 year olds have fully sorted out.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

I keep thinking of the family of Seth Rich, who have spent two years watching kooks and useful idiots accuse their murdered son of leaking these emails. Imagine how that feels.

— Dave Weigel (@daveweigel) July 13, 2018

Reminder that Julian Assange (who was in a position to know) and others have spent the past 2 years trying to pin the DNC hack on Seth Rich, a slain DNC junior staffer who cannot defend himself. https://t.co/ibOGMpC27Z

— Alex Seitz-Wald (@aseitzwald) July 13, 2018

One can still hope Assange will pay some price for his venality in this, among other, instances. Newt Gingrich, on the other hand, has nothing to fear but the verdict of history…

Today’s indictment is fatal to the Seth Rich conspiracy theory. @newtgingrich said to be in search of a newer, healthier conspiracy. https://t.co/qIhutP8M2M

— VeryStableHat (@Popehat) July 14, 2018

In light of the Mueller indictments, I called @newtgingrich to see if he would like to apologize to the Seth Rich family for peddling the conspiracy theory that Rich was killed for supposedly leaking the DNC docs to Wikileaks.

"No. Goodbye!" Gingrich told me before hanging up. https://t.co/hhy10ru7MN

    There must be other current and newsworthy topics in or related to the realm political which can be front paged occasionally. A steady diet of ass does no one any good.

    Notmax, pay attention. The ass is supposed to get the taste of salted dicks out of our mouths.

    @NotMax

    When it comes to the Rs, there’s Snowflake salt.

    :)

    @NotMax:

    From the cold, clean waters of the Pacific Northwest, this natural sea salt has perfectly balanced flavor and beautifully white, shimmering crystals that are reminiscent of freshly fallen snow.

    Now that is a beautiful example of marketing bullshit.

    OT.

    Half watching a history, produced in Russia, of the Crimean War.

    Russian commanders are invariably presented as imperiously noble, congenitally courageous and intrinsically superb military tacticians. Russian troops retreat, foreign troops “run away.” And no matter what, the Czar can do no wrong.

    True story.

    Reminded of the repeated announcements over the P.A. at a ski resort in the Poconos. “Beautiful day on the slopes today. Just like skiing on a walnut sundae.”

    Asked the shill (off mic) making that announcement what he meant by walnuts. Answer? “The rocks.”

    Gingrich apologize? Conservatives have no problem lying to promote their causes. They refuse to admit that they were wrong even in the face of overwhelming evidence. And like their President, they have no shame.

    @Patricia Kayden:

    And like their President, they have no shame.

    You need a soul to experience shame.

    I see that Trump has blamed poor relations with Russia entirely on previous US administrations. Nothing to do with Russia or Russian actions.

    So it looks like it’s not America First, it’s Blame America First.

    @Patricia Kayden:

    Yeah, Gingrich definitely is apologizing for this on the 12th of never. Right after Hannity.
