It’s absolutely beautiful here so I was opening all the windows to get a good breeze going and to air out all the stank, and I saw our girl Lily out in the backyard just living her best life, sniffing, pooping, peeing, rolling around, and I stood and watched her for a bit. Realized you all could use a bit of this dog therapy and grabbed the camera for you:
She’s just such a happy, gentle, sweet dog. Once again, I can not thank you all enough for chipping in and helping with the initial hospital stay and helping to save her life- it was so expensive! The costs are so much more manageable now that we only have to go every two weeks (and in a month or so, every three weeks), and as you can see it was worth it because look how good she is. So, thanks again!

What a good, beautiful girl! Thanks for the video, John.

Still really missing Gav.
I got an email from Trupanion (pet insurance) this morning and two of the four claims I submitted have been paid. One of them was for his prescription dog food. I wasn’t really expecting them to pay anything in regards to the food, so that was cool.
They sent an email asking for additional info for the third claim and I’m still waiting to hear about the fourth.
Been looking at rescue dogs online, but I think I need more time before I commit myself to the responsibility.

It’s such a rush when an ill pet responds to medical treatment and you can just enjoy watching your baby being happy.
Our older dog lost an eye to glaucoma last year and vet told us it was highly likely she’d lose sight in the other eye eventually. The eye drops are no longer helping her keep sight in the other eye. In the last few weeks we thought this was happening and now we don’t think she can see anything. We guide her up and down steps and put up a baby gate to keep her from falling down the stairs to the basement. Dogs do adjust and we hope she will in time but it’s all new to her and us right now. Our younger dog tries to help her too, brings tears to our eyes.

Always laugh at articles pointing out the WoW active subscriber numbers have “dropped” to between 5 and 6 million, intimating that’s some sort of death knell.
Let’s take the lowball estimate. 5 million people at $15 per month* = $75 million coming in every month. $900 million per year from just that game. Hardly poverty row.
*Yeah, there are some who pay a slightly lower amount because they opt for a longer subscription period, but for the sake of argument, assume they pay $15.

I don’t know why, but my computer always thinks it’s in Miami and I am currently looking at an ad for a bail bondsman located in Miami. That’s a complete waste of advertising dollars on many different levels. Anywho, I love watching dogs just hanging out, being guided by their sense of smell, mostly. What a great girl Lily is.

@LAO: WRT use immunity: does the immunity apply only to the questions asked and issues raised during the trial and preparation?
Can the prosecutor go after the witness with other charges, if the topic did not come up during the trial? (As in, do those with use immunity go scott free on everything, even if they are found to be involved in other schemes and crimes?

@Elizabelle: The point of use immunity is that it does not protect the witness from all risk of prosecution. It protects them from having anything that they testified about being used against them. What it means in practice is that the prosecutor would have to show an independent source for evidence that might be used against them in any subsequent prosecution, which can be hard to do. It’s how Oliver North was able to have his conviction overturned.
Leto

Freely admit I don’t play anywhere as often as I used to since all my folks (aside from the bank mule) became capped. And have no particular interest in starting new characters beyond the dozen or so already have. Yet it’s nice to know the game is there and only a click away when the mood strikes. One thing I don’t appreciate is that each expansion has made professions more and more irrelevant. The next one, I fear, will continue that trend.
LAO
@Elizabelle: No to the scott free question, it’s not a free ride or get out of jail free card. The witnesses can be prosecuted for any other crimes they don’t testify about and even if they do testify about it, if the prosecutor finds independent evidence of the commission of the crime, they can be subject to prosecution.

@Major Major Major Major: Activision stopped publishing subscriber figures Nov 2015. They shifted to some other metric, but that date is significant because that was a year into WoD when they basically gave up on that expansion. Their dev team by that time had shifted focus to Legion and it’s paid off. Now is it WotLK numbers? No, but 5M still seems oddly low. And that’s just US subscribers. That’s not EU, Russia, Oceanic, or China subscribers.

@NotMax: Played Alliance this expansion, but the wife and I are headed back Horde side. Zandalari trolls are just too good. The Zandalari zone/npcs were pretty much modeled after Wakanda and I really dug that (played the beta for a bit). I’ll still have plenty of alliance guys to mess around with, so that won’t be an issue.
Come Horde side! We have spikes, huts, and cookies!
Regarding professions, they were reset yesterday. They’re akin to your cooking profession from MoP. They’re now capped at 100, with each expansion offering its own level cap. It’s weird. Didn’t mind it for cooking in MoP, but not that thrilled about it. As far as usefulness, age old professions (jewelcrating, enchanting, alchemy, herbs, some engineering) will still be very useful/profitable. Tailoring for bags but inscription? No clue. Blacksmithing? Probably not, unless they add stuff later.

@NotMax: Maaaannnn… the only Alliance capital that has a logical layout is Ironforge. Everything else is just helterskelter! Orgimaar has two AHs and two banks, so no matter where you are, you’re gold! But Thunder Bluff, UC, and Silvermoon are just… not fun. Especially Silvermoon. Rivals Exodar as duds. But we’re apparently having a bon fire as well as giving back a city, so all good! :P

@Teddys Person: Senior dogs like the same things I do: regular meals followed by regular naps. :) I don’t have the energy for a young dog, so it works out for everyone.
Leto
@NotMax: Yeah, he’s chatty. It was cool at first but now it’s like, I DON’T CARE ABOUT THE HOZEN AND THE BUTTERCREAM PIE! YOU’RE NEVER GOING TO TELL ME THAT STORY! Also the mage flying disc is a reskin of the Lorewalker disc from MoP. I thought about it for a second but was like, nahh… got that already.
That unicorn! Paragon rep reward from Dreamwalkers! Still don’t have that one. I have the Paragon rep dragon from Stormheim, and just this past week finally got the flying carpet from Nightfallen. I was really happy to finally get it. As far as the other three paragon rewards, if they haven’t happened by now, they’re not going to happen. Locking them behind yet another layer of RNG is just the defining feature of Legion. They could’ve made them at least purchasable wtih Curious Coins, that worthless currency.
Also I got the Headless Horseman’s mount this past Hallow’s Eve. Only took me 8 years =/
debit
@Elizabelle: Kelpie is actually doing great. No sign of the cancer coming back and she gets around really well for a dog with almost zero vision. She has some neurological damage (distemper as a puppy, we think) that caused the blindness and a lack of fine motor control, so when she runs her legs sort of go every which way, which is hysterical when she really works up to speed. She’s a super good girl.
NotMax
@Leto
Yeah, got the Lorewalker disc back in the day. The mage disc is cooler looking, IMHO, as it’s look is dependent on your specialization.
Grats on the flaming steed. Better chance of that dropping than the horsies from Stratholme or Karazhan! Think it’s been 8 (maybe 9?) years and still no love rocket for me. Resigned to that never happening.
NotMax
@NotMax
Gah.
its look, not it’s look
Leto
@NotMax: The warrior class mount does the same tint change depending on your spec, which is neat. Yeah, some of these mounts are just… frustrating with their drop rates. I’ve farmed Ashes now, on and off, for more years than I care to admit. Still no joy. I figure I’ll be farming Legion raids forever just for the mythic Gul’dan and Argus mounts. Never did get the Charhound mount from the Dogs, despite sending 6 toons through there weekly. Ugh.
Elizabelle
@debit: Good to hear. Go Kelpie!
NotMax
@Leto
DK and shaman mounts also have differing tints. Rogue class mount is nice looking, but boy, did Blizz make that quest chain the equivalent of a poke in the eye with an icepick.
These old, stiff fingers just not nimble enough to get the warrior mount. Maybe go back and do it after leveling up past 110.
Leto
@NotMax: What was the issue with the warrior one? I did it a while back so don’t quite remember. I’m still, slowly, working on leveling a rogue up. I have one at 94, but man… WoD is a SUCH A SLOG TO GET THROUGH! We didn’t play that xpac so neither of us have flying, which means the quickest leveling method (treasure chests + bonus xp areas) isn’t a viable option. So many of my toons stuck in the 90 bracket.
Did you do the mage tower for any of your toons?
NotMax
@Leto
Negatory on mage tower.
If it would help, would be willing to taxi you around Draenor aboard Sandstone drake.
Leto
@NotMax: Thanks for the offer, but with BfA launching Draenor flying becomes a purchasable item. But we should still putz around doing something!
Sorry about the mage tower!
NotMax
@Leto
Not that the mage tower was unsuccessful, never was inclined to accept the quest in the first place.

As a guy who himself started drops for glaucoma 9 weeks ago, I can really relate to having a fuzzy companion with the problem. The only not bad thing about it is that it’s blindness pain free. That’s not a good thing as it makes blindness from glaucoma very difficult to know you have if you don’t see an eye doctor.
People, do get your eyes checked for pressure!!
My eyes have been monitored pretty often for many years as the pressure has run a little high for a long time. But eye appointment last spring revealed damage to the optic nerve, a tiny amount, but any is too much! My pressure has dropped as hoped for with the drops… so that’s good.
Also, love the update on Lily, strolling and sniffing in the back yard. So glad we jackals could help with her treatment!! Thanks for sharing her with us, as well as Steve, Thurston and Rosie.
We’ve had dogs since valentine’s day back about 1982 when I picked up Muffin from the Dairy Queen where she was trying to make a living out of hot dog bun ends in February. But we rarely pick up dog waste, as we live in the woods. Where our dogs go to shit. With the raccoons and possums and birds… When we take them places we sometimes need to clean up after them, but mostly we all stay right here.
Leto
@NotMax: I had to get the werebear form as I’ve played druid for a long time now and it was just super cool! And sparkle kitty! I got a lot of them, but understand not everyone enjoyed it.

@delk: One of our dachshunds had cataracts that eventually left him mostly blind. The vet told us years before not to shave his face or clip the black whiskers They use them to sense where they are in the dark. They can also use them when the eyes don’t function well enough to see in light either. He could move around the house relatively comfortably as long as we didn’t move furniture where he wasn’t expecting it. When we took him traveling, he would follow us or one of the other dogs until he “knew” where things were. He got to be pretty good at it after a while. Time and patience helps a lot.
Mel
@delk: Take your time. It takes as long as it takes to recover enough from such a big loss, and to feel ready to give your heart away again, and you’ll know when you are there.
In the meantime, if you feel up to it and if it seems like some doggy time might be helpful in your healing, maybe you could volunteer at a shelter that you like, and enjoy giving some great doggies a much appreciated walk or snuggle. It all depends on what helps you to move through the grief – follow your gut, and just be sure to take good care of you as you find your way forward.

@J R in WV: For WoW now you can get started for ‘only’ the cost of a month-by-month subscription, if you want to check it out.
