Hopefully he survives long enough to testify.

All members of the Trump Crime Cartel have the best mug shots.
oatler.
Better than the anal rape fantasy I’d planned for him.
Miss Bianca
@oatler.: We don’t want to hear about your fucking prison rape fantasies. GTFO with that shit.
Mike J
Max sentence was 12 months, no priors. Hard to follow sentencing guidelines and get what people wanted.
SiubhanDuinne
@oatler.:
Knock that right the fuck off, please.
Baud
I wonder if we convinced Trump he’d only get 14 days, he’d confess everything.
oatler.
@Miss Bianca: Why Miss Bianca, I do declare! And you can get the fuck out yourself, unless you’d rather personally service the perp.
HeleninEire
OK, that period tweet! You boys have NO IDEA. That woman has a clue.
debbie
The sentence is fine with me. He’s provided information and made public statements that Trump, Sessions, and others knew what they were doing in regard to getting info about Hillary from the Russians.
Dorothy A. Winsor
@oatler.: Rape is not a joke.
SiubhanDuinne
@oatler.:
Rape jokes are never funny. NEVER. Got it?
debbie
@Baud:
Like Lucy with the football, right?
ruemara
@oatler.: I join the chorus of saying you need to batten down your rape fantasies. Keep in your personal emails to your buds, if you have to go there.
Subvert democracy and try to sell out a nation to a foreign power, 14 days. Make a mistake while voting, 10 months.

@Baud: I was thinking that there is good chance Manifort might spend more time I jail before the trial than after it thanks to Manifort’s bail idiocy. The irony.
oatler.
@SiubhanDuinne: Got it. I am sorry, y’all.
SiubhanDuinne
@oatler.:
Glad to hear it. Thank you.
Litlebritdifrnt
What is Twitler babbling about here?
SiubhanDuinne
@HeleninEire:
That gave me by far the biggest laugh of the day.
Villago Delenda Est
@oatler.: That’s better, if a tad perfunctory.
OTOH, WTF? 14 days? That’s not enough time to write a letter, unless you’re MLK, Jr.
Mike in DC
If there’s good behavior credits in federal prisons, he might not even do the full 14 days.
debit
@Litlebritdifrnt: At a guess? That the investigation cost 28 million and it only resulted in a 14 day sentence.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
Well according the article the conviction is over lying to the FBI, not treason,and the real sentience is 200 hours of community service and 12 months of supervised release.so a good possibility more charges for Mr Papadopoulos in the future.
HeleninEire
@Baud: Give him a 14 day cramping, hurling, no sleeping, bleeding like you’re dying of blood loss period. Yeah. He’ll confess. Trust me. I would have.
Also too? Getting old is AWESOME. Cuz that shit is over.
debbie
I lack the time to read all the comments today and I see Betty addressed Trump’s anonymonimousity, but have these Tweets been posted?

At least as far as I can tell he was the first to flip that eventually lead to Stone.

Probably the cost of the trial. Hopefully, some one will respond that that’s about nine rounds of golf gone to waste.
Miss Bianca
@oatler.: I’d appreciate an apology too, bud. That last little crack of yours was just as disgusting as the first. I’m glad that you appear to at least have the grace to be ashamed of yourself before our SiubhanDuinne.
HeleninEire
@debbie: LOL I got those fibroids taken the FUCK out 5 years ago. I won that battle. I am told they are back but birth control pills have stopped the hemorrhaging. Yay, me.
Coffee at dawn ☕
@Miss Bianca: Yes, you are owed an apology. I notice that many “progressive” men can be really sexist.
oatler.
@Miss Bianca: I’ll apologize to you to, Miss B. I’ve been calloused by mainstream acceptance of prison rape jokes, and I admit it’s a grim reality. Remember the “don’t drop the soap” jokes?
Emma
OK. Just because today has been one of those days, something to cheer myself — and maybe others: India’s rocket woma(e)n Seems to me space exploration has a long history of dumping the hard jobs on unknown ladies!
Miss Bianca
@oatler.: I accept your apology. And I do remember those times, but times change, people change. Amazingly so, in some cases and with some issues.
oatler.
@Miss Bianca: Thank you

Also, Musk continuing to beg for the mother of all defamation lawsuits by still lobbing completely unsubstantiated pedophilia accusations at a rescue diver probably doesn’t help.

I’ll admit I’ve never been a fan at the best of times, but Griffin claiming she has been persecuted because she’s a woman is really unhelpful. I find it completely credible that she has been unfairly yanked around by our government, but the moral of that story is don’t do a skit mixing a president and death. Griffin constantly playing the victim is odious. Zero sympathy…

Mandalay
@Emma:
Nice strawman. I’m always strongly against anyone joking about the death of the current president. If that’s an infringement on free speech so be it. The stakes are sky high, and there are too many wackos out there who only need the slightest encouragement.
So her tacky skit was bad enough, but for Griffin to claim she’s a victim over that because she’s a woman is just absurd.
And if you believe so strongly in your right to joke about such stuff, post a joke about it right now. Just don’t be surprised when you get a knock on your door.
Mnemosyne
@Mandalay:
People were calling Griffin’s sister in the hospital and berating her while she was undergoing cancer treatment. Are you unfamiliar with how these harassment campaigns unfold even after GamerGate?
mdblanche
@Mnemosyne: Or maybe his dealer’s been selling him some really bad stuff lately.
dmsilev
@Emma: Death threats against a current President have always been a Bad Idea, regardless of who said President is. She absolutely should have expected a nice sit-down and chat with the Secret Service.
That said, harassment campaigns against Griffin from Deplorable Nation are also bad.
debbie
@Quinerly:
Funny. Wish they had found out why the other two were removed.
Mandalay
@Mnemosyne:
That’s not cool, and I have sympathy for Griffin’s sister as a wholly innocent victim, but I have none for Kathy Griffin. You joke about the life of our president – even one you loathe – and you deservedly face consequences.
The ugly attacks on Kathy Griffin’s sister show exactly why you shouldn’t makes jokes about the president dying. Just don’t ever go there. It’s no a difficult concept, though it seems to elude you.
Starfish
@oatler.: Two things have happened that have led to the death of prison rape jokes. One thing is that rape jokes, in general, have gone away. The other thing is that there is a lot of activism around prisoners’ rights and seeing prisoners as humans worthy of dignity. Sixteen prisoners died in the Mississippi prison system in August.
Shana
@HeleninEire: Amen Sister. Ain’t great? Now if the hot flashes would stop….
Emma
@dmsilev: I do not in any way object to her getting a visit from the Secret Service. That’s part of the deal. Biut if her career is being threatened in any way by the usual Trump buddies, then damn right it’s a freedom of speech thing.
Mnemosyne
@Mandalay:
I guess I just don’t have your enlightened attitude about how we need to force innocent family members to suffer because their sister made a lame photographed joke about how much she hates Trump.
If Griffin didn’t want to get strip-searched at every airport in the US for two years, then she shouldn’t have made the joke. It certainly doesn’t say anything scary about our government that they would punish a private citizen using their police powers because that private citizen made a joke that the government didn’t like.
Mnemosyne
@dmsilev:
It’s the whole part where Griffin was cleared of being an actual threat and then harassed by TSA for the next two years that I find disturbing. Mandalay is fine with the US government extrajudicially punishing someone for a joke they didn’t like. I am not.
hueyplong
@Mandalay: So the moral is don’t anger the abuser or your family is fair game?
??? Goku (aka Amerikan Baka) ??
@Mandalay:
That’s not her sister’s fault. Harassing family members is wrong and shouldn’t be excused because her Griffin may have made a joke in poor taste. That’s like arguing that a son should be executed for the murders committed by the father, simply because of association.
dmsilev
@Emma: That’s fair; I don’t argue with that.
MagdaInBlack
Thats just a very, very odd way to think.
Yes, the joke was tasteless. I’m not a fan of Ms Griffin.
But that statement sounds like something an abuser would say to justify his/her behavior.
Mnemosyne
@dmsilev:
And, yes, I’m basing this opinion on the interview I heard with Griffin on Kevin & Bean a few months ago. Her complaint isn’t that she was interviewed by the Secret Service — it’s that she claims there was an ongoing harassment campaign that started after she was cleared that included extra screenings or being put on the no-fly list by the TSA every time she travelled.
MagdaInBlack
@hueyplong:
Apparently.
Mnemosyne
@MagdaInBlack:
I’m doing heavy sarcasm there, in case it didn’t come across. Mandalay thinks that Griffin deserves to be harassed by TSA because she made a bad joke about killing Trump. I do not agree, hence the sarcastic reply.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Mnemosyne: // is your friend.
Mnemosyne
Also, too: I’m okay with the professional consequences that Griffin had to deal with. Lost acting jobs or canceled gigs? Sucks, but I think those are not unreasonable consequences of a performer making a badly-done and badly-received assassination joke.
But having the government actively harass you for having made that joke? Nah. We’re not a fucking banana republic yet.

Politico put up his Public Financial Disclosure Report from 1/20/2017; it lists him as Executive Vice President & Chief Legal Officer of The Trump Organization from 1/1997 to 1/2017.
Then Assistant to the President and Special Representative for International Negotiations from 1/20. The NYer article says he is a senior adviser on Israel.

But.
He has helped the prosecution, and as someone up thread pointed out a light sentence can make others come forward.
Think of it this way, his “career” in republican politics is probably dead. He has no career in democratic politics so in 14 days he’s going to have to find a real job, one that fits the rest of his sentence beyond the free room and board.
Would you hire him?

@Frankensteinbeck: Argument for Ivanka would be:
She and Jared would lose their influence and WH access immediately if T is taken out.
She’s known for rushing something into print (usually about the importance of her influence) when Trump is trouble.
Her role for years: Jump in and take over the persuading when Trump needs money or votes.
Doesn’t hesitate to copy from others, note op-ed’s use of inspirational words from Michelle Obama ( I believe Iv. may have ‘helped’ Melania’s speech), Pres. Obama and John McCain.
She’s known for having articles and quotes attributed to other people (placed in the NYT, Politico etc.) that mention her ‘quiet moderating influence’ and ‘working quietly behind the scenes’ and ‘The Quiet Power Behind Trump.’
Is this from a) Op ed or b) Past articles about Ivanka/Jared? : “Go to great lengths to keep bad decisions contained to the West Wing, though they are clearly not always successful.”
Not adept enough to manipulate successfully.
Ivanka’s familiar message during campaign: He might seem bad but I can prevent the damage.
Immanentize
@PaulWartenberg: @Ruckus:
Think of his sentence actually as his next year at the beck and call of the US Attorney’s office. Most criminals sentenced to real short time get hammered if they mess up on supervised release.
This is his “chance.” And Papapapapolus (Trump pronunciation) and his wife have demonstrated an excellent ability at violation of release conditions. 14 days is a warm up.
Bill Arnold
@jl:
Possible. (I didn’t notice a for-real suspicion of Kelly by J&I as a significant possibility.) The longer the anonymity holds, the more such theories (continuations of palace intrigues or actions related to grudges) we’ll see. This is all quite frenetic and … dangerous. Does anyone know of a grudge(/dislike)-matrix for all the major players in the DJTrump administration?

@dmsilev: Musk’s public stuff is eyebrow raising from a CEO (with the exception of the weed), but it’s what goes on in private / corporate settings that’s probably got his executives running for the exits.
I don’t usually pay much attention to that type of stuff, but Musk has certainly been craving the spotlight lately, and not for new product rollouts…trumpitis seems to be contagious.
Ruckus
@Immanentize:

I thought that would be better coming from an expert. Which I am decidedly not.
He’s got 14 days in the gray bar, but a year on probation if I read it correctly. For someone with such a loose appreciation for law and order, that year could be, if not a lifetime, quite a stretch. And I doubt that the feds will take violations lightly.
@Calouste:
Sure it’s possible, but they like their toddies to be at least clean on the outside. He’s just taken away that sheen of respectability and quite likely the ability to travel a lot for a year. And he shut the door to any influence that he might once have had. That should help as well. I’m not saying he’s finished but he ain’t flying high at this point.
