Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

The snowflake in chief appeared visibly frustrated when questioned by a reporter about egg prices.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

No one could have predicted…

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

Ballon Juicer Paul Wartenberg is from Florida-17 and wants us to know about the great Democratic candidate there.

As your representative, April will defend our community, our seniors, our children, our veterans and our environment by pursuing policies that make sense and work. April will work with other elected officials to ensure everyone benefits from policies that will impact them positively.

April has the experience necessary to help lead our country into and through the next decade. She spent several years educating young voters enrolled in two year programs on the importance of voting. Her extensive work and studies in communications at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, along with additional courses she completed in Environmental Science, Economics and Political Science at Yale University make her a perfect advocate for Florida residents and our extremely sensitive ecosystem. Freeman is a 2013 Graduate of the Women’s Campaign School at Yale, through Yale Law School…”

I hate to derail this thread right away, but the writer of the anonymous op-ed just came forward.

@Yutsano: I do hope that Doug will put it up again, because you are correct that is an important story. She is very credible.

I defy any woman to read her story and not believe it.

@WaterGirl: The republicans are already circling their wagons. We already have one sex abuser determined to take away the rights of females, we don’t need another. I’m furious.

@Yutsano: Just added to the top of that story:

BREAKING: Senate Republicans signaled they plan to move ahead on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination despite a decades-old sexual misconduct allegation.

The statement from Judiciary Committee Republicans came shortly after The Washington Post published a story Sunday afternoon that included an on-the-record interview with the woman alleging the sexual misconduct, Christine Blasey Ford. The committee Republicans said it was disturbing that the allegation was never brought to the attention of the full panel previously.

Emphasis added. That’s bringing victim-blaming to whole new heights.

Kavanaugh has already lied under oath, how much more information do they need.

@dmsilev: Also after the Republicans have tried to make sure that nothing he ever did before came up before the committee. I think the Democrats should use this and say, “Well,m if we need to bring everything up before the committee, how about those 300,000 other pages of documents?”

I believe her and I believe DiFi did the right thing. If it was a Democratic judge up for confirmation and a Republican senator had received that letter, it would be on the Drudge Report 60 seconds later. DiFi believed the woman, and respected her desire for anonymity, so all the people screaming that she should have told the other Dems immediately can fuck right off. This nomination reeks, and I have set a goal to write a postcard today for every senator on the Judiciary panel, plus the Republican leaners, today so I can mail them and be sure they receive them before Thursday. The fact that Grassley delayed the vote a week shows that they are afraid.

They’re going to push this through, now more than ever. They’ve realized they’re likely to lose the Senate, which means no SC picks at all. So they have to get this one through. It will of course make it even more likely they’ll lose the Senate–women will be pissed–but they’ll have their guy in. They have to have him confirmed.
