Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

This fight is for everything.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

“But what about the lurkers?”

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

We still have time to mess this up!

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Republicans do not trust women.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Let me file that under fuck it.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

Come on over here for a little break. One cute kitteh who has found his very own private place among my grape vines. He was a little annoyed I found him. But thems the rules, you want to play outside in the backyard, I must know where you are. He is magnificent, isn’t he? But don’t tell the others I said so.

I am tuned out today. How are you taking care of yourself?

I agree on this feline’s magnificence! We used to have a similar looking neighbor cat come over to visit/harass our cats who looked like this. I named him Blondie from the spaghetti western movie.

    Here’s some good news:

Virginia voter registration stats for 2018 so far:

    •172,116 new voter regs. 101,491 in 2014 & 89,975 in 2010
•106,401 of new regs are under 35
•In 2017, young voter turnout was highest in state history. 2018 likely higher

Source- FOIA of VA Board of Elections #BeAVoter

Note that there are more 2018 new registrations in the young voter category than entire new registrations during the 2014 election cycle.

Also too, there is another FL Senate poll, this time giving Gillum a 9 point lead (54-45). So far Gillum has led in every poll since the primaries.

He’s nursing a wound on his tail right now. I think he and Jake got into it. Not sure why, but Scout is still in heat and though everyone else is fixed, those pheromones are powerful things. Can’t wait for Scout to join the fixed crew, this has been no fun for any of us, though she’s been a good sport about it all.

Is this your new kitty? His coloring reminds me a little bit of your gorgeous kitty Harley, may he rest in peace. I bonded with Harley in some inexplicable way the first moment I laid eyes on him, and I have never forgotten him.

And now I’m crying about Harley; my emotions are this close to the surface this week.

I haven’t talked here about it because it was too painful, but I recently lost the best cat in the world, my Spike. It was pretty traumatic for me.
BUT — we waited a bit and went to the local cat rescue and chose a new baby. He’s the most darling cat ever. He’s 5 months old and has cerebellar hypoplasia, which makes him a little wobbly and uncoordinated, but it’s not severe, so it mostly just give him a sort John Wayne gait, keeps him from jumping more than a foot, and causes him to wipe out when he races around corners. But he is the sweetest, most lovable little critter. His name is Mouse and every time I get a little sideways I go and lay down on the bed and he jumps up and snuggles with me and purrs until I feel okay again. He’s the best.

Yeah, I’ve probably owned a thirty cats over the years, but Spike was my ball of sunshine. He was THE CAT. I found him under the back porch when we lived out in the country, and he was nothing more than a 4-week-old black scribble. Took me three days luring him out with tuna and lunchmeat. From that day forward he was joined at my hip for the next 14 years. Mouse is giving him a run for his money on best cat ever, tho. They may have to be co-best-cats-ever.

In the interest of mental health, I can present to you the high & mighty lord floofypants Odoriki deciding that guitar practice is the right time to get some snuggles & loving from his dad. It’s a bit funny how the cats gravitate to the housemate for music practice. But Odo takes the cake. He sits right behind him and when there’s a break in songs, climbs onto the guitar neck to give & get cheek rubs.

But last week I bought the two of them cat balls, which are located in the living room near the piano. On Monday, Zooey slept in his cat ball while I practiced!

I like seeing these lovely cats!

My kitty, not pictured, is finally eating well – she had 4 teeth pulled three weeks ago, and lost weight while she was recovering. At 17, 7 pounds, with stage 2 kidney disease, my vet wants her to gain weight, not lose! So I’ve been trying this food and that food and this addition and that addition. Today, I think natural hunger finally kicked in: she’s cleaning her bowl every time I feed her, no matter what flavor/brand food I’m offering. Yay!

A bit of good news. From Real Clear Politics…

WASHINGTON – The race between Republican Rep. Chris Collins and Democrat Nathan McMurray is now a “toss-up,” the RealClearPolitics website said Wednesday as it upgraded McMurray’s chances in what had been a race that “leans Republican.”

RealClearPolitics did not explain its ratings change, which came nine days after Collins re-entered the race. Collins suspended his campaign Aug. 11, three days after federal prosecutors in Manhattan charged him with several federal felonies in connection with an alleged insider trading scheme.

McMurray, the Grand Island town supervisor, took to Twitter to celebrate the change.

“We already knew that we have the momentum, the enthusiasm, the excitement. They can’t stop us,” he wrote.

McMurray is campaigning hard. Very active on Facebook. Lots of small donations. I sense he isn’t the most liberal guy out there, but, he’s several orders of magnitude better than Collins.
