Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Everyone is in a bubble, but some bubbles model reality far better than others!

No Justins, No Peace

Republicans in disarray!

“Look, it’s not against the rules anywhere, but a black woman with power was dating and there has to be something wrong with that.”

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

Let me file that under fuck it.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Another missed opportunity for Jamie Dimon to just shut the fuck up.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

“That’s what the insurrection act is for!”

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

Bogus polls are all they’ve got left. Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls a year from now.

In short, I come down firmly on all sides of the issue.

I am originally from Chicago and a mild Cubs fan. I wasn’t too surprised or disappointed they lost. This yea!it’s team has too many hitting dry spells to win three series and take it all.

54% of Maine voters think Kavanaugh should be rejected, compared to only 41% confirm.

Collins’ favorability has dropped to 49%––an 18% fall over the past two years––and will plummet even further if she votes yes.

Boy, what could have happened in the last two years to cause that drop?

It’s not even 11 here. That was a hell of a game. Like the rest of my corner of Giants Twitter, I was pulling for the Rockies; I’m glad they won. Now if the A’s can beat the Yankees tomorrow, I’ll be thrilled.

@Major Major Major Major: Yeah, binge-watched sunday night. i really like the show, but was watching with a friend who finds the morality simplistic. Too bad–give me some clearly-delineated good guys that I can root for. Can’t even imagine watching Breaking Bad, her fave. Not just the violence–I don’t want to spend time with people who suck you into identifying with them as they get worse and worse. Not into religion, but I totally hold with the Buddhists: you become what you practice. I want to practice goodness, which is the whole point of The Good Place, now that I think of it.

Nice of her to let me watch on her TV though.

@lahke: Breaking Bad isn’t even remotely morally ambiguous, is the funny thing. Walter White is a bad, bitter dude who turns down free, lifesaving help because of pride and entitlement. The show just makes you root for him.

The Good Place is solid, good even. It’s not earth-shattering, but it’s kind and pure, which is very rare.

ETA for the record I think breaking bad is amazing, but partly because it tricks you into rooting for him

@patrick II: yes, it is hard to see how they could win three series. Had they won tonight, they would have had to go back to face the Brewers with a messed up rotation. They probably would not have been swept, but given the low scoring, they almost certainly would not have advanced.

Good morning from Madrid! I woke up Wednesday to the news of Trump going off on Dr. Ford last night. Even an ocean’s distance doesn’t really blunt the sting of our moron in chief.
I should go look at some art, or a giant palace with less garish taste than a Trump home.

I actually just came on to congratulate the Cubs on getting back to their roots by blowing a 5 game lead in the last month of the season, and also to laud the extra spice they added by scoring 2 runs over the next 22 innings to miss the playoffs altogether.

This is the kind of season that could be a real legend in a hundred years or so. :D

@lethargytartare: The Cubs went 16-12 for the month of September and never lost more than two games in a row in that stretch. And they finished the regular season tied for the best record in the league. They didn’t blow anything. The Brewers just got super hot. It happens.
