Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Be a traveling stable for those who can’t find room at the inn.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Pelosi: “He either is stupid, or he thinks the rest of us are.” Why not both?

No one could have predicted…

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Ah, the different things are different argument.

Trump makes a mockery of the legal system and cowardly judges just sit back and let him.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

Biden: Oh no. We’ve upset Big Pharma again.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

This really is a full service blog.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Democrats have delivered the Square Deal, the New Deal, the Fair Deal, and now… the Big Joe Biden Deal.

How can republicans represent us when they don’t trust women?

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

Yes, yes, I know the video in the tweet is actually from 2015…

Anyhow, you all know what this means! An audio-video extravaganza of a dogfight between the leader of Jagdgeschwader 1 (JG 1), also known as Richtofen’s Flying Circus, and a dog!

Oh look, they’ve already done the new Supreme Court picture now that Kavanaugh’s been sworn in.

    I love snoopy.
My daughter is in LA and chose to go to the observatory tonight and is excited because she got to see a rocket launch that was not planned.

Speaking of strange flying things, I got a decent view of SpaceX’s latest launch about 30 or so minutes ago. It was a bit too far away for good photography, though I kind of liked the way this shot came out:

This is right after stage separation; second stage is the bright flare on left, heading up and south. First stage is the flare on right, doing a boost-back maneuver to return north to Vandenberg AFB.

@waratah: The Space-X launch was planned. I was shooting from the suicide bridge in Pasadena.

@?BillinGlendaleCA: It was pretty impressive.I was able to follow it for most of the way, and then fired up the webcast to see the landing.

Also, I think the government of Pasadena would take it as a special favor if you didn’t call the bridge that. They’re quite proud of their suicide-prevention barriers.

Yeah, I noticed them; my god, they’re fugly. Here’s my shot of separation; keep in mind, I was shooting a timelapse of the sunset and couldn’t reframe.

    @TaMara (HFG): @M. Bouffant:
In 1967, my HS buddy and I were talked into playing folksongs at what we thought was a coffeehouse at a youth center in the DC area. The group before us was doing acoustic covers of British Rock and were getting a bad reception from a crowd that wanted something heavier/more up-to-date/more soul. My friend and I looked at each other and said, “Those guys are good! What’s this crowd going to do with a couple of folk singers?”

The crowd reaction was as bad as we expected. After singing a few songs for the two tables up front (our friends) who appreciated us, we did a rendition of “Snoopy vs. the Red Baron” from our camp-counselor days and walked off the stage.

I could swear I remember seeing a flying doghouse at the St. Louis model airplane club over forty years ago.
