See down here in the Southeast they have what they call “Beach Music”. It’s actually soul music that was popular for folks doing The Shag. Having grown up partly in LA Beach Music was Dick Dale and the Deltones, The Surfari’s. Jan and Dean and you know who.

I love doo-wop! Thanks for this, JGC. Looking forward to it!
Pretty cool father and daughter. Not a Doo Wop fan myself. I was a 50s child who spent a hell of a lot of time with older cousins given the nature of extended families then. They loved it, but inoculated me.
Last time I was stationed in the States (mid-’70s) there was one day some radio station in the DC area devoted a whole afternoon, maybe the whole day, to a capella doo-wop. I can’t imagine how I was listening to it, but I liked it. I was amazed there was so much a capella doo-wop. I didn’t even realize before I heard that that doo-wop was a genre. I still make sure to put both disks of American Grafitti in my library every time I have to restore my hard drive.
