Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

The words do not have to be perfect.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

It works like this:

ABC: are you a bigot?
Bigot: I just think white people are better.
ABC: hah we got him to say it out loud hi5 #journalism
Bigot smiles
99% audience: ew a bigot I am superior
1% audience: I never heard this before where do I sign up?????

I find it insane we don’t talk about this more. Steve King is a member of the GOP caucus and essentially an open white nationalist. Why aren’t Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, and Donald Trump asked about his membership in the party every day? https://t.co/Bz9bzTvAQ6

Good question. I had a tough time deciding between the two Democrats. Kevin de Leon has more current issues (like the environment) that he is very involved in and the issues that he has worked for in California won out for me over DiFi’s seniority.
Plus, the California Democratic party has endorsed him over DiFi, for many of those reasons.
We can’t lose either way, but I am ready for a change.

I’m probably going to stick with DiFi. I feel that the issues she’s strongest on and has the most experience with are the ones that are going to come up the most under Trump. I’m not sure that De Léon would have been as comfortable championing Christine Blasey Ford. YMMV.

Plus my ideal candidate to replace DiFi would be Adam Schiff, so I’m hoping that comes to pass.

That NYT profile of McInnes was just finally too much for me. “Not afraid to get physical”? Published the very day after he instigated a (likely pre-planned) hours-long beatdown on the streets? Vomit.

I contacted subscriptions today to cancel, and it was not easy. I have to have a “chat” with a customer service representative about why. This person/bot on the other end of the chat wanted to confirm repeatedly that I was cancelling because I was dissatisfied with some specific content. Had to rush out on a deadline so I walked away but I guess I have to try again tonight.

Daniel Dale has a piece in the Star about King and Goldy.
Goldy was fired from Rebel Media for being too extreme. As if! Going on nazi media and discussing the “Jewish Question” was too much for Ezra Levant the Rebel Commander. Ezra is an asshole to be sure but he is also, as you might guess, Jewish.

I will not read about Gavin McInnes but he also worked at Rebel and got fired by Ezra. They sent Gavin to Israel and he came back and wrote a piece called IIRC “10 Things I Hate About the Motherfucking Jews.” Long gone of course but you can see Ezra’s point. Does the NYT mention that? No? Curious.

White supremacy has been the acceptable default position of this country until the 1970’s, but never really went away. The only thing that has changed is who is counted as white. If you wanted to get ahead, in the last 50 years, you just had to be more circumspect in your racism.

But Trump started saying the quiet parts out loud and won.

So I guess there are people in the media trying to figure out how much of the quiet parts they can start saying out loud again.

Hell, I knew that when I was a young and stupid extreme right-winger back in the early 1990’s.

If they didn’t, they sure as hell aren’t all het up about being falsely accused. Pompeo sure as hell isn’t asking even the most basic questions or putting anyone at all on the blessed spot. I listened to the LGM PODCAST: THE KAVANAUGH CAPER last night.

On the latest LGM Podcast, Robert Farley moderates a discussion between Paul and Scott from LGM about the Kavanaugh hearing, the immediate impact on the Supreme Court of Kavanaugh’s ascension, and the broader political implications of the confirmation.

I was kind of surprised and definitely pleased to hear that both of them seemed to think it is quite possible that Kavenaugh could end up off the supreme court. Not that he would be impeached, but that information will come out about his finances or something else that would make it nearly impossible to stay on the court. I thought you might be interested to know that and I thought it might help keep your spirits up.

I listened to the podcast as I was falling asleep last night, so I will listen again tonight to get any details I might have missed as I was drifting off to sleep.

    @Viva BrisVegas:

In the South Side Chicago, over the top TV show “Shameless”, one of the character’s has an adult circumcision to please his “girlfriend”. He has to avoid erections for 72 hours but she keeps messing with him, he keeps tearing out the stiches,

Finally, his doctor recomment’s a 72 hour program of watching Canada Cruz’s speeches, as many patients have reported that his speeches cause impotence.

    @RAVEN:

Being over the top, hostile and agressive, is part of the “act”,

And an early form of defence against a hostile audience and society.

Keep in mind, they are men dressed as women.

    @WaterGirl:

I’m hoping Breet “Justice” Kavanaugh gets indicted, tried, and convicted for ruling in a manner specifically designed to support major payments to his family bank accounts.

Much of which decision may rule that most of his payments were a result of his tenance were to describe his family as well-off, due to his family income.
