Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

In short, I come down firmly on all sides of the issue.

This blog will pay for itself.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

In after Baud. Damn.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

“Look, it’s not against the rules anywhere, but a black woman with power was dating and there has to be something wrong with that.”

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

You cannot shame the shameless.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

No one could have predicted…

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

BREAKING: Native Americans push back on North Dakota voter ID rule, announcing in a new statement they will issue street address documents at polling locations to members who need them. pic.twitter.com/tukNkgrV18

— Maddow Blog (@MaddowBlog) October 18, 2018

With North Dakota's voter ID law in place for the election, Standing Rock Sioux leaders say they're in crisis mode trying to get tribal members what they need for November 6. https://t.co/1zr5QnU4eQ

— KMOT-TV (@KMOT_TV) October 16, 2018

… With three weeks to election day tribal leaders have scheduled a forum to help people find their addresses, and get them new tribal IDs. Chairman Mike Faith thinks this won’t suppress the vote.

“I think it’s going to be a positive because it’s upsetting people to the point of wanting to go to the polls,” said Faith.

“People who’ve never had IDs will have IDs for the first time and so that’s a real plus,” said Young.

In the last 4 presidential elections, voter turnout in Sioux county has ranged from 1,100 to 1,300.

If you are a tribal member with question, there is a meeting in Sioux County about the voter IDs. For more information, call 701-854-8500.

The Secretary of State website has a link for ID questions here: https://vip.sos.nd.gov/civics101.aspx?ptlhPKID=126&ptlPKID=7

A series of amazing possible firsts (governor, Congress, lt. gov…) for Native American women candidates seeking historic wins in November across the country from @joeheim https://t.co/A7UMzE7ZIO #standingrock #nativevote18

— Arelis R. Hernández (@arelisrhdz) October 15, 2018

Deb Haaland has known a lot of firsts in her rise through New Mexico’s Democratic Party ranks. In 2014, she was the first Native American woman from a major party to run for statewide office here when she sought to be lieutenant governor. After that bid failed, she became the first Native American woman in the country to lead a state political party. On Nov. 6, barring a shocking upset, the 57-year-old member of the Laguna Pueblo Tribe, could become the first Native American woman elected to the U.S. Congress…

Haaland’s bid for Congress, in the strongly Democratic 1st District, has soaked up most of the attention, but 2018 has been a breakout political year for Native American women across the country with “far more than ever running,” according to Mark Trahant, editor of Indian Country Today, who has been tracking races. Another Native American woman, Kansas Democrat Sharice Davids, is also running for a House seat. More than a hundred women elsewhere have taken part in races at local and state levels, an unprecedented level of participation that has produced hashtags — #SheRepresents, #NativeVote18 — and a wide range of candidates that include Democrats and Republicans, but also Green Party, Independent and Libertarian candidates.

Though the emergence of so many Native American women running for office has seemed to come out of the blue, it is in many ways the result of seeds planted over the past decade at the community and regional levels.

“The narrative had been that Native Americans were gone, that we’re invisible, that we’re part of history,” said Jodi Gillette, a member of the Standing Rock Tribe who served as special adviser for Native American issues to President Obama. “Well, we’ve been here all along trying to be seen and trying to be relevant and trying to find ways to address our issues. I rejoice in the fact that we’ve got the visibility and are positioned to help lead and not just be seen, but to represent.”…

Unlike you jackals, I am warmed by the knowledge that the DoJ, will — thanks be to FSM! — step in on the North Dakota situation, and tell the ND SecState (or whoever is doing this) to “cut the crap!”

Well, they would step in, if it were economically anxious WWC voters being fucked over the way the Native American voters may be. But for the Native Americans, they’ll repeat what the Rev said to Sheriff Bart when he’s “welcomed” to Rock Ridge.

Georgia's #earlyvote continues at a strong pace. Today's report is 382K, which is more than 3x 2014's 125K at the same point in time before the election. GA is looking more like 2016 than 2014. Have folks seen the Data for Progress thing the past couple days? They did an ask to fund 8 targeted state legislative seats (including one in MN, which I sure appreciate). They thought they could move a few thousand dollars per race in places where entire campaign season budgets might be $40,000 (or less, I’d bet, in some of those), to help flip state legislatures. Critical for moving towards redistricting in a few years, and a training ground for new and rising politicians, esp women and non-whites, I hope!

The first one blew through $200,000. So now they’ve launched a second (Give Smart 2 which has raised $106K in I think like 14 hours), and I think they are planning a third for very soon.

A few weeks ago I did some data crunching myself (not knowing others already had at MinnPost), and gave $50 each to 20 MN House races. For what would have been a drop in a $36,000,000 bucket for Beto, I hope to be able to say later, I helped kick the g.damn GOP out of the MN majority in our Lege. Our state Senate is up in two years and I’m already fired up to kick butt there, too.

The issue in Georgia isn’t winning, but getting 50%, or it goes to a runoff.

The last time a President’s party picked up seats in the Senate, but lost them in the House was 1970. Same Senate class as this year, but a slightly different partisan map. Democrat Gale McGee won Wyoming by eleven points.

At a time when the world is shuddering at the brutal murder of the journalist Jamal Ahmad Khashoggi, Trump at his rally in Montana tonight praises Rep. Greg Gianforte at length for assaulting reporter Ben Jacobs.

Trump: “Never wrestle him. You understand that. Never. Any guy that can do a bodyslam, he’s my kind of” — crowd cheers — “he’s my guy. I shouldn’t say this. I had heard that he bodyslammed a reporter. And he was way up…and I said…I said oh this is terrible he’s gonna lose…then I said wait a minute, I know Montana pretty well, I think it might help him. I’ve canvassed a couple of times for Davids and am signed up for three more. There is enthusiasm here. She has canvassers going out every day, and two shifts on the weekends. Yoder announced Canvass Saturdays! 3 of them. That’s it. I went to the opening of her second local office, hoping to meet her, but it was just too crowded. There were a couple of hundred people there. They asked how many were first-time volunteers, and about half, including me, raised their hands. This isn’t just happening here – it’s happening all over the country, and the media doesn’t see it.

The Guardian, Ben Jacobs employer at the time he was body slammed, has responded to Trump’s outrageous and untimely comments.

The President of the United States tonight applauded the assault on an American journalist who works for the Guardian. To celebrate an attack on a journalist who was simply doing his job is an attack on the First Amendment by someone who has taken an oath to defend it. In the aftermath of the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, it runs the risk of inviting other assaults on journalists both here and across the world where they often face far greater threats. We hope decent people will denounce these comments and that the President will see fit to apologize for them.

Honestly, the bigger own goal was done by the State Democratic Party. Nothing Gonzalez does really has much of an impact on his chances of winning. Democrats needed to have invested the time over the last 3+ years attaching lodestones to Baker because he is 1) actually a Republican, 2) Doesn’t really do much, and 3) what little he does do beyond photo ops is block more progressive policies.
