So a undercover sting of Claire McCaskill got her on tape saying she supports an assault weapons ban.
McCaskill *voted for the assault weapons ban* in 2013.
Quite a scoop.https://t.co/s33wc68gvm pic.twitter.com/yobA0ndSg8

Who the godsdamned hell is supporting James O’Keefe III’s vanity project, anyway? I read somewhere that he had a trust fund, but haven’t been able to find verification. Of course there’s never a shortage of willing donors for RWNJ ratfvckers, but it would be nice to have receipts…
Project Veritas infiltrated McCaskill’s campaign and gained access to voter files, her campaign lawyer says. McCaskill is pushing the state AG, her opponent in the senate race, to take action against the group. https://t.co/5NCB4tPg5q

Good for McCaskill! Some pundit said she was ‘fortunate in her enemies’, but looks to me like she makes her own luck:
… An employee of Project Veritas approached McCaskill’s campaign in May and expressed an interest in volunteering and interning on the campaign, according to an affidavit from McCaskill’s Columbia field director Luke Tonant.
As an intern, the Project Veritas employee, who Tonant knew as “Adam Thomson,” had access to the campaign’s voter information database for a total of 20 hours between May and July, according to the affidavit.
The Project Veritas employee continued to volunteer for the campaign after resigning his internship in July and even attended McCaskill’s primary election night party, where he obtained the video of McCaskill speaking about her support for gun control measures.
The affidavit is part of a 115-page complaint McCaskill’s attorney filed with Hawley’s office Thursday in an effort to pressure the Republican attorney general and McCaskill’s opponent to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate whether Project Veritas violated Missouri law in the course of obtaining the videos…

Why do these asshats seem to never end up in prison? More to the point, how are O’Keefe and Zimmerman (George, not Bob m’kay) still alive? Natural selection and angry armed people should have removed them long ago.
Amir Khalid
James O’Keefe is a Three Sticks? I did not know that. On the other hand, I did know that McCaskill supported the mainstream Democratic position re assault weapons.

I need to look up what law and order means because the repubs don’t define it the way I do.

Three Sticks just means your family is not very imaginative with names.

@Major Major Major Major: and how they endlessly flaunt the law and are still free to continue to pull the same shit over and over again in the name of the GOP propaganda machine.
If this guy was a person of color or a woman, then they would be in jail, probably mis-assigned in with violent offenders.

@Major Major Major Major:
They arn’t.
Their fakes are monetized on YouTube to sell to the Wingnuts,
They get major funding every year, millions of dollars from the Wingnut Welfare Funds,
Including insurance against lawsuit losses and legal coverage for both criminal and civil crimes,
And the Gullibillies pour money into his 503 PAC.
An indie doc maker might make $25k a year, another $10k on YouTube, filming and producing something worth watching.
O’keefe makes millions every year and Project Veritas cover’s almost all his “living expenses” through creative accounting.

Whoever is funding these assclowns needs to be found, outed, and their lives made a living hell.

@NotMax: I didn’t realize I’d given the impression there was something to sort out.
Jay
@piratedan:
Very few of their target’s use the full extent of the law to go after them on criminal and civil charges.
Inpart because Project Veritas has wealthy Wingnut backers, and Civil Suits are expensive,
In part because O’keefe often uses First Amendment/Prankster arguments to evade Civil and Criminal charges,
And the FEC is gutless.

Claire drives me nuts on so many national security votes. I long ago stopped calling the office as they always give some stupid script not addressing my question. But I would never vote for that POS Hawley. He with an ongoing lawsuit against preexisting conditions – while campaigning that his son has a precondition and he would never ever honest to god take that away. I researched and the fine print is his explanation is he has to kill Obamacare that benefits insurance companies. Then he will deliver the best health care for all; with details forthcoming very soon as such.

FYI. Vlad tidings.

@Jay:
Buzzfeed’s November 2017 look at PV’s funding turned up a fair amount, though it likely didn’t come close to a full accounting of all the major donors to O’Keefe’s operation. The last time I saw some 990’s – they covered several years up to 2015 or 2016 – his support was ramping in leaps and bounds over the years I looked at. (Here’s the 990 for 2015; the IDs of the donors listed in Schedule B are all redacted, with only the contributed amounts shown.)
It seems that a fair number of his contributors are business owners who donate in the 4-figure to 5-figure range. Some seem quite satisfied with what they are getting for their money, Buzzfeed’s positive spin notwithstanding. Owning the libs seems to be a fairly common theme, though some specific topics are mentioned (e.g., anger about undocumented immigrants).
I’d like to see O’Keefe be held accountable for his shit, but if history is any guide, that won’t happen. I thought he was in big trouble with that crap he pulled in then-Senator Mary Landrieu’s Louisiana office, but he got off easy.

@sharl:
Don’t forget, his 503 PAC is public,
Project Veritas is not,
And then, he work’s for other “groups”, on the side.
The only way to see what he’s actually “making” would be a full audit of everything, but it’s alot.
His production qualities suck, and he uses unpaid interns, so he’s not paying for staff.
Unfortunately, he can evade a lot of laws by alternatlely claiming to be a journalist, an entertainer, a prankster or being non-political.
The way to nail him is to catch him in a felony and nail him hard. Like the “Communists”. The Organizer should have documented them, kept the “donation” in a clean ziplock, identified them, filmed them leaving the Republican offices, then filed felony fraud charges against the two “pranksters”. Sure, as convicted felon’s they would lose their voting rights and their careers would probably be over,
But that’s one of the differences between us and them, right.

Good on McCaskill for demanding an investigation of PV. Who would take any PV claim seriously after all the nonsense they’ve engaged in over the years? Notice that no left wing group exists which mimics PV’s tactics? Our side doesn’t have to lie about our opponents. The truth is damaging enough.

@bluehill:
‘Law and order’ politically means, and has always meant, ‘blacks are naturally criminals and only brutal force can keep them in line.’ It has no bearing on Republican malfeasance. They would not see a connection.

You wanna hear some sad shit? The largest Jewish Federation in the country has funded Project Veritas. That little nugget dropped out in the course of Haaretz’s and The Forward’s investigations into the funding of the Canary Mission, a fun little McCarthyite group that for years has been targeting and harassing Jewish students who support BDS and are otherwise opposed to Netanyahu and his cronies.

I’m forgetting among all the various ratfvk stuff which campaign it was, but another recent ‘secret video!!’ was released. Like this one, it was filmed at a campaign event, while the candidate spoke at a microphone.
What passes for secret in this world today, I just don’t know.

@Mart: Did you get to listen to any of their debate last night? Claire hammered him on the fact that the GOP has absolutely nothing to take up the slack if the ACA goes away. The best Hawley could come back with is the zombie “Dems cut $700B from Medicare” lie.

Its amazing the degree to which an octogenarian socialist from Vermont gets you whiny Boomer’s underpants in such a knit.

Well, Josh, you did ask for it…
Josh Hawley, Missouri’s ladder climbing republican attorney general who Claire McCaskill’s (D) opponent in the election, has been trumpeting the videos via social media.
James O’Keefe (r) should brush up on Food Lion v ABC.
“…Counsel for the McCaskill campaign has delivered a letter to the Attorney General’s office laying out clear violations by O’Keefe and his organization of Missouri’s Merchandising Practices Act, 407 RSMo, for which the Attorney General has primary responsibility…”
“…In Missouri, it is unlawful to use deception, fraud, and misrepresentation “in connection with” the “solicitation of any funds for any charitable purpose.” 407.020, RSMo. The use of deception, false pretense, etc… is illegal regardless of whether “committed before, during or after the…solicitation.”
Violation of RSMo 407.020 is punishable as a class D felony.
“…Project Veritas is a “charitable” organization. It applied for and was granted tax exempt status by the IRS (EIN 27-2894856). (See Exhibit A, Project Veritas IRS Form 990s for 2015 and 2016) Project Veritas’ filings with the IRS admit that the types of “investigations” at issue here are part of the organization’s mission. In other words, the making of videos under false pretense are an important part of the organization’s effort to raise money. Although Project Veritas does not publicly disclose the names of its donors, we know that they accepted over three million dollars in 2015 and again in 2016. Videos of this type are regularly posted on the Project Veritas website in order to drive traffic to the website and solicit donations from viewers of the videos…”
Some people need to lawyer up.
