Explosive Devices Found in Mail Sent to Hillary Clinton and Obama https://t.co/fQxZosSUEE

— Jonathan Landay (@JonathanLanday) October 24, 2018

Conservative figures and media, including Fox News, Alex Jones, and Donald Trump, have inspired harassment of journalists, violence in the streets, and now bombs being sent to former presidents and political opponents.

This isn't alarmist. It's reality. 1/

— Jared Yates Sexton (@JYSexton) October 24, 2018

If we had a properly functioning media, we’d have a national conversation about how the president of our country feeds the flames of domestic terrorism. https://t.co/IAa81WTPi3

— Neera Tanden (@neeratanden) October 24, 2018

When Trump and his allies talk about "civility" from their opponents they don't mean being respectful or polite, neither of which is a value the president can claim to hold. They mean bending the knee or staying silent.

— *Palpatine voice* UNLIMITED DADPUNS? (@AdamSerwer) October 24, 2018

I screenshot the last one because I expect Haberman or Bloomberg to delete or change their work.

No condemnation of violence from any Republican leader. Maybe Jeff Flake or Susan Collins will speak up against violence “on both sides.”

There will be a rush to pin these mailbombs on extremist talking points from fringe websites like 4chan and Qanon-adjacent communities on Reddit and Facebook, but Soros, Obama and the Clintons have been viewed as the root of all evil on talk radio and Fox News for over a decade.

It was during the superdelegate uproar, with some speculation that superdelegates might vote for Hillary in spite of Barack having won the majority of delegates through voting and caucuses.

She said “Do you think the blacks will riot if the superdelegates give the nomination to Hillary Clinton instead of Barack Obama?”

My reply: I don’t know about “the blacks” (with scorn at her choice of words) but I will certainly be rioting if that happens, and so will a lot of other people. Maddening.

I don’t mean to harp on this subject but we on the Progressive side need to plan for how we deal with our ‘patriotic opposition’ when some of them start using their 2nd Amendment Solutions Kit. Remember all the butt-hurt from them when Trump won that they wouldn’t be able to use their 2nd Amendment Solutions Kit on traitorist Dems & Hillary supporters? That actually happened and far too widely for my tastes. When someone tells you something about themselves, you should believe it until proven otherwise. This is going to happen. How we react will define what this country truly is for the foreseeable future.

“Facing significant debts from the legal troubles that dogged Mr. Clinton’s presidency, the Clinton’s were able to buy the house after their chief fund-raiser, Terry McAuliffe, personally secured a loan.”

They are clinical. This is ridiculous.

A reader comment from 40 minutes ago:

I fail to see how the information on how and when the Clintons purchased their home is relevant to this story. It seems entirely gratuitous, the type of insinuation and character slamming that marred much of the coverage of the last election. I note that neither Obama or Soros has his house described here, nor the neighborhood characterized (as affluent etc.), nor the manner in which he purchased or rented it outlined. Just the Clintons.

What’s in the current FTF NY Times reporting on bomb to the Clintons — and is this relevant? — you decide:

The Clintons bought their 11-room Dutch Colonial home in Chappaqua, an affluent Westchester enclave, in 1999 for $1.7 million as Mr. Clinton ended his tenure in the White House. The decision to settle in Westchester came as Mrs. Clinton was preparing to run for Senate from New York.

Subtly (or not), it’s there. Hillary Clinton. Carpetbagger.

@JPL: Rashbaum is a longtime NYT Metro reporter, who has covered a lot of corruption in NYS government. His bio:

William K. Rashbaum is a senior writer on the Metro staff of The New York Times, where he focuses on political and municipal corruption, the courts, terrorism and broader law enforcement topics. Previously, he covered federal court in Brooklyn and served as the newspaper’s police bureau chief. He joined The Times in 1999, and has spent three decades writing about crime in New York, the city’s police department and the mob.

Mr. Rashbaum was a member of a team of Times reporters that won the Pulitzer Prize in 2009 for its reporting on the involvement of New York’s governor, Eliot Spitzer, with prostitutes. Mr. Rashbaum and several other reporters also wrote a series of stories about the role of Mr. Spitzer’s successor, Gov. David Paterson, in protecting an aide who had abused his girlfriend. The allegations led Mr. Paterson to abandon his gubernatorial campaign in 2010.

In 2014, he and two colleagues wrote a series of stories about a state anti-corruption commission created by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, who abruptly shut it down nine months later. The stories showed that the governor and his aides had interfered with the panel’s work when it focused on people or groups that were close to him. Mr. Cuomo’s shutdown of the panel, known as the Moreland Commission, led to several federal investigations, including one focused on his role in halting its work.

A reporter since 1983, Mr. Rashbaum has worked at the Hearst Newspapers, UPI, Reuters and New York Newsday, leading that newspaper’s police bureau until 1995. Just before joining The Times, he spent four years at the New York Daily News covering crime and writing longer-term investigative stories.

The FTF NYTimes reporters on the Alan Dershowitz in Martha’s Vineyard stories:

per NYTimes bio: (Mr.) Niraj Chokshi is a general assignment reporter with The New York Times’s express desk.
story from July 3: Alan Dershowitz Says Martha’s Vineyard Is ‘Shunning’ Him Over Trump

Also from July 3: On Martha’s Vineyard, a Frosty Summer for Alan Dershowitz
Reporters are Jess Bidgood (no bio linked) and Julie Bosman.

Julie Bosman’s bio up at NY Times:

Julie Bosman is a national correspondent who covers the Midwest. Born and raised in Wisconsin and based in Chicago, she joined The Times in 2002 and has written extensively about politics, education, law enforcement and literature.

Hmmm. Maybe some NYTimes reporters were already up there, in the area, or relished an expenses paid trip to Martha’s Vineyard.

But on July 7 they brought out the Big Guns: yes, it’s the horrible Jeremy Peters, and look at the headline and blurb for his piece:

    Alan Dershowitz Is Enjoying This
In an interview with The Times, Mr. Dershowitz talks about McCarthyism (Martha’s Vineyard-style) and why nuance doesn’t exist in politics anymore.

Jeremy Peters’ bio, no reporting on it from before the NY Times. Is that true?

Jeremy W. Peters is a reporter in the Washington bureau of The New York Times who covers politics.

He has reported on a variety of topics for the paper, including two presidential campaigns, the machinations on Capitol Hill and the intersection of politics and the news media. Most recently he covered the 2016 election.

His other assignments in his decade at The Times have included the financial markets, the economy and New York politics.

He usually takes a notebook with him on vacation to file dispatches for the Travel section, which has featured his writing on trips from Corsica to the Caribbean. He graduated from the University of Michigan, where he was a reporter and editor for The Michigan Daily, with a B.A. in history and political science. He lives in Washington.

Poynter link with more info on Peters. Not from the rightwing swamps; actually a journalist from college, and spent two years in Saint Thomas for the Virgin Islands Daily News.

@JPL: From Splinter, the last I’ll put up: New York Times Admits Running a Zillion Alan Dershowitz Stories Wasn’t Great

… Now, even Times editor Dean Baquet has admitted that the Dershocalypse was a bit much. Here’s what he told the Daily Beast:

“We are trying to increase our coverage of cranky white guys,” he joked. “Seriously, it’s a big place and different desks made their own plans. We should have coordinated better and done fewer.”

The rest of the piece contains the usual anonymous sniping from Times journalists, as well as what seems like the now-requisite comment from former Times editor Jill Abramson (“‘Six reporters!’ she said, laughing. ‘That’s the only comment this needs’”). But Baquet’s response is the most important, and revealing.

“Different desks made their own plans” says quite a lot about the priorities of the Times, doesn’t it? What kind of place is this that Alan Dershowitz floats some nonsense complaint about being snubbed by fellow zillionaires—or publishes a book whose real purpose is to get him more publicity—and multiple divisions of the New York Times spring into action independent of each other? What is it about this man and this story that rings such a loud alarm in the Times offices?

They have supported shady characters for at least nearly a century. Starting with Josep Stalin and Adolph Hitler back in the 1920s and ’30s. So it isn’t a recent trend, but a long established pattern of supporting fascist authoritarian dictators, like our current Orange Drumpf.

I’ve provided links to various archived stories in the past, too much like work to keep that up, but it’s easy to find if you doubt me. Stories that support the actions of the Soviet in Ukraine to create a famine that changed the composition of the population to mainly of Russian heritage by killing off the Ukranian people by shipping all the harvest out of Ukraine, with troops.

Oops, the stories didn’t mention shipping the food away, my bad. Just what a good strong job Mr. Stalin was doing managing Ukraine’s problems.

Stories about how “firm leadership” of Mr. Hitler was bound to improve the daily lives of the Germans. Except for the dead people, I guess. That wasn’t in the story about the new German leader, either.

@PJ: And, apparently, “controversial” and even “polarizing,” also too.

The Right has so successfully moved the Overton window of discussion in this country I fear we’ll never get back to a reasonable middle ground. Basic decency, good governance, and the Social Compact are labelled as weakness, soshulizm, handouts and identity politics as they’re laundered through our media apparatus, prepped to be dismissed and derided by half our population upon consumption.

We’re legitimately at a point where things like “Honesty is valued” and “Citizens should have broad access to voting in elections” and “Subject matter knowledge is a good thing” and “Encouraging political violence is bad” need to be re-litigated or something. Those are now controversial statements, apparently.

Andrea Mitchell telling us George Soros is “not a household name.” Stuff it, Mrs. Greenspan.

Andrea Mitchell should be retired for complete incompetence. I googled a string of names of the bomb recipients so far and it took me until the third page of google (to get past the current stories about the bomb) to find this little gem, which I won’t link to.

The New World Order globalist cabal has given marching orders to the American political class, top corporate officers and leadership throughout civil society to launch the next phase of CIVIL WAR 2.0.It’s the Rothschild international banking cartel that appears to be instigating this ever-intensifying civil war via foreign agents such as George Soros. Nevertheless, it is the likes of George Soros, Barack and Michelle Obama, Hillary and Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, Tim Kaine, John Podesta, John Brennan, James Clapper, Michael Hayden, James Comey, Rod Rosenstein, Robert Mueller, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Andrew McCabe, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Tom Perez, Maxine Waters, Adam Schiff, Chuck Schumer, Kamala Harris and many other Democratic traitors who willingly carry water for the NWO cabal. Therefore, the single most effective initiative that President Trump can take to prevent civil war is to arrest George Soros.

I suggest that anyone on that list who doesn’t already have a protective detail intercepting their mail get one double quick.

Sandra Day O’Connor was a trailblazer. Too bad Bush v. Gore ruined her legacy.:

When, in 2000, the networks began calling the election for Al Gore, O’Connor, at a party held by friends, blurted out, “it’s over,” and rose from her seat before the television in disgust. Her husband, John O’Connor, explained to the other guests that she wanted to retire and of course did not want to turn over her seat to a Democratic president. Six weeks later, she cast the critical fifth vote to stop the recount of the Florida ballots and guarantee the White House for the Republican.

This former journo doesn’t buy the “Different desks made their own plans” line. At the newspaper where I worked, the desk editors on duty have a daily “budget meeting” where they discuss what stories they’re using tomorrow and what else they’re working on. It keeps things coordinated and among other things helps avoid duplication of coverage by multiple desks. I cannot believe that editorial desks at The NYT work in silos isolated from each other, as that statement implies. You just do not run a news organisation that way.

“Meghan McCain compares bombs targeting Dems to Republicans getting ‘heckled at restaurants’”

That is as big and blatant a lie as I have ever seen in any article. From the video, this was the actual discussion:

Joy Behar: “Every time he [Trump] says thing like “The press is the enemy of the people” his entire party needs to stand up against him, and say something. Mitch McConnell – where is he? He’s the leader of his party.”

Meghan McCain: “He’s getting harassed and heckled when he goes out in public to have dinner with his wife…”

Nobody on the panel pushed back against what McCain said, and McCain made no mention of bombs.

To be clear I have no time for Meghan McCain, or the “both sides” tight rope she constantly walks. But the story pushed by RawStory is a vile lie. It’s also worth reading the comments for that article. Hundreds of people were dumping on McCain for something she never said, or even remotely implied.

I am encouraged by Pelosi using the words “corruption” and “lying” in her latest statements, and it appears that the newer crop of Democratic candidates (Beto, Gillum, etc.) are not afraid to point out when and explicitly describe how their opponents are lying, or are speaking on behalf of their donors instead of their ostensible constituents.
