Assassination attempts on two Presidents, a Vice President, a former Secretary of State, a former Attorney General, a former CIA director, 2 members of Congress, a major cable news organization, a prominent Jewish philanthropist and a two-time Oscar winner is a 'minor event' now. https://t.co/dLfYOa5GGY
— Zedward D Wood Junior (@Zeddary) October 25, 2018
My first headline was “Fails Turing Test”, but what could be human than Pinker’s assumption that a “vindictive stunt” which doesn’t affect him is just a “minor event”?
In our interconnected age, you don’t need to be a professional journalist to join the Church of the Savvy…
I’m shocked to learn Pinker’s at Harvard.
Of course I missed it, but damn Andrew!
I’m loving these young new Dem pols, O’Rourke, Abrams, Gillum…
Minor event, indeed. But I guess having a bomb mailed to your house in an attempt to kill you simply pales in comparison to having one of your constituents yell at you. I mean, it’s a wonder that McConnell survived that with only minor injuries to his ego.
Looks like DeSantis brought a wet noodle to a knife fight. Sunshine State hilarity!
There are so many people screaming out for Karma to happen to them now, karma is confused where to go next.
At first, I kind of liked Pinker.
He can fuck off, now.
“Good luck with your bubble illusion, Steve.”
An isolated moron. Mr. Rogers without Mr. Rogers.
Reposted from David’s soccer referee thread. Will probably do so one more time before the evening’s done (Readership Capture!):
* * *
Wanted to take advantage of a fresh Open Thread.
Some you will have seen that our beloved efgoldman commented briefly on an earlier thread, and many joyfully welcomed him back to the jackal fold.
Not long after that, he phoned me. He sounds much stronger than he did a few weeks ago, which is great news. He’s been moved to a different facility — I think maybe more of a physical rehab place. I didn’t get the name of the place or a mailing address, and the only phone number I have is the generic switchboard one. Will try to get those details in the next few days to share privately with those of you who want to send a card or give him a call in the next few weeks.
He has a laptop and WiFi but uses it only when he is in a chair, not when he’s in bed. And because it’s hard for him to predict just when he’ll be where, he doesn’t know when he might show up to comment and converse. Also, if he’s been commenting and then suddenly disappears, not to worry — it means the nurses have decided it’s his bedtime. He’ll be back the next day!
He asked me to tell everyone that he misses us. He’s grateful for the get-well cards and notes and phone calls he got in the other hospital.
Just wanted to catch everyone up. Will let you know as soon as I can provide the new contact information.
Bish…just leave stage left and collect yo damn check that you didn’t earn…and keep Joy Ann Reid’s name out cho racist azz mofo mouth!
I loved his first book. Found it fascinating. Since then, nope, not so much.
I’m like Cole, watching “a hit dog will holler” over and over again.
Heard him interviewed about his new book. Knew the name, but was unaware of his previous work. He was a glib, glib talker dealing with things that deserved more than what it seemed he was willing to give. With this – fuck him with a ebola-slathered rake.
Thanks for this. I missed all the news, address, etc., but it was great to see him pop up in Betty’s thread earlier today.
obviously we’ll know that “Hell has come to breakfast” if someone keys HIS car, but since no one sent a pipe bomb to him, I guess that doesn’t matter in the great schema of events that comprises universe Pinker.
Yep. You and me.
Gillum: I would hate for you to be hurt
GOP: DEMONRAT CANDIDATE THREATENS DESANTIS WITH PHYSICAL VIOLENCE OMG ASSAULT CHARGES PENDING
Pinker is worthless. He makes Gladwell appear like a positive savant by comparison.
For EFG if he is around: Hang in there fellow old fart.
I think Pinker said some important things in The Better Angels Of Our Nature and Enlightenment Now, about how we undervalue the great amount of progress that has occurred in the world. Hans Rosling said similar things in Factfulness and got much less criticism for it. I wonder why.
In this case he is being tone deaf, but it is surely true that there are worse things going on in the world than these amateurish bombs.
@lamh36: I know they’re not supposed to be political, but are the Shriners going to do a fundraiser for DeSantis when this is all over? Because, you know, major BURN VICTIM.
Reminds of Art Garfunkel’s younger brother if he got a lobotomy and an anonymous BJ through a wall in the liberry at Harvard and exclaimed “Why can’t we all just get along?”
And, it turned out to be Dennis ‘Bring The Boys Home By Christmas’ Hastert, behind the Wall.
Hey – teacher – leave them kids alone.
Just watched that clip of Gillum saying “I would hate for you to be hurt,” and o my god I will vote for him in a flash.
Now, I’m not going to move to Florida in order to vote for him–I’m not that crazy.
But if he is on a national ticket, he’s got my vote. He’s that good.
@SiubhanDuinne: So glad to see this! Thank you for keeping us up to date.
Months ago Doug J. mentioned this guy for his stupid hair and stupid ideas and I had no idea who he was. Doug was too kind.
Yes but, not a press and president that encourages.
Relativism is Now. Here. This is without precedence.
I get what you mean but, seeing ‘intelligent’ people doing this is their bullshit, not ours.
They can take their distant comfort and blow it out their ass.
@lamh36: Yeah, the media theme of “Democrats keep their olds in office too long, they have no one on the bench” seems to have slinked off into the sunset where it belongs.
Heyo, a troll sighting! Boris, sure there are worse things going on in the -world-. In OUR COUNTRY, which is descending into fascism, this is a new low, and no, bombs sent to the leadership of one of the two main political parties is NOT something to be laughed off.
So, y’know, fuck off, Boris. Also, enjoy some pie!
This pustule says the quiet parts out loud again.
We shall see about that Newt. You think we were uncivil during the confirmation hearings, you ain’t seen nothing yet from this old broad.
I know it’s just going to make the old white racists vote mad because they had to watch a Black man constantly pwning a white man but DAYUM I love Andrew Gillam!
I don’t think Pinker has any notion of the visceral fear some of us carry concerning, in particular, the Obamas’ safety. And have done since the moment he announced his candidacy for President.
Dropped in to add:
Steven Pinker reminds of an overhip teen minister at a church camp.
“I know there’s going to be fucking this weekend but, for God’s sake, go for the backdoor because, reasons. I made this shit up, right before I faced you fine youngsters”
He’s an out of touch idiot, smiling buffoon with a hair dresser and a tan.
“Read my books because, when you do, it works out great for me.”
“Why is everybody….cross?”
And, continues to this day, at this house.
The irony is that things have “improved” so much that BOMBS sent through the mail are so easily intercepted now. We have better defense capabilities having learned from the past.
Pinker is ignoring all the things that have to go right in order for this to be “nothing” and I do believe the Soros package did explode, I hope no one was hurt.
Oooh..just realized my birthday is like 10 days away!
Wow…the fuq-ery continues in Georgia!!!
Ballot Applications in Georgia, and Senate and House Latest: 12 Days to Go https://nyti.ms/2Jf0oXL
Sydney Greenstreet is a good Count Fosco. I was disappointed in the PBS version the other night, despite Jessie Buckley’s best efforts.
Aw…too bad so sad…FUQ U Megyn!
I would love his address to send him something.
A Ghost To Most
Amateurish? Perhaps. A warning? Likely. A signal? Possible.
@David Evans: Okay, so there are worse things going on. That’s the equivalent of yelling “first world problems” anytime anyone raises an issue about something you personally don’t want to deal with or don’t agree with them on. Example: I say “School and prison food are atrocious” and you say “Hey, you’re not starving like people in Yemen.” Seriously, the only reason why these bombs are a minor event is because we spend tens of millions of dollars on security for high profile politicians, which we didn’t used to have to do. Unless Steven Pinker really thinks tens of millions of dollars being spent to avoid political mayhem and murder is inconsequential he really should exercise his option to stand in the corner and say nothing.
Mr Stagger Lee
@lamh36: That is called a MIC DROP!!!
re: efg – best news in a long time. Hoping it is a super comfy chair.
Really, was Sydney Greenstreet ever not good? Man could rattle off what was seemingly 12 pages of uninterrupted exposition without a hitch. Kind of boggles the mind to realize he was already 21 years old when the 19th century became the 20th.
Trivia: In The Maltese Falcon, there’s a rocking-type chair which naturally moves whenever anyone sits in it except Greenstreet. Prop folks had to fortify and stabilize it with plywood to accommodate Sydney’s avoirpdupois.
The bombs may not have been that big a deal- they didn’t do any damage, and it’s possible they weren’t well enough made to do any damage had they reached their intended recipients- but they get a lot of attention as a symptom of a serious problem. The intended victims were not chosen randomly; they were targeted specifically at people Donald Trump has pointed out as his enemies. Violence aimed at the enemies of the president* is a serious problem, even if it’s amateurish violence. The next person targeting Trump’s enemies may be competent enough to do some real damage.
Just wait. It will soon be replaced by “Democrats are a bunch of youngsters who lack sufficient experience and gravitas to be trusted with the country”.
So is my wife’s. Let me know if you happen to be a 5’ 2” woman with red hair and the initials PSH. It would be funny if we were following the same blog and didn’t know it.
As soon as I have the current address I’ll let BJ know (will provide, privately, his name — he doesn’t want it out there kicking around the inter tubes).
Jim, Foolish Literalist
so is this fiasco on Andy Lack, who IIRC also protected Matt Lauer? And wanted to fire Larry O’D and Joy Reid? and brought on Hugh Hewitt? Wasn’t there another recent flame-out on MSNBC? Somebody who had a late afternoon show for like three weeks? Greta Van Susteren, came to me as I was typing.
@SiubhanDuinne: thank you.
Dammit, and I just bought one of his books!! Now I’m really sorry I ever put money in that man’s pocket…what a jerk!
Wait. Is this new? AGAIN? Or from yesterday?
Even following through on politically motivated threats of prosecuting opponents, like the current treatment of the FBI, threats of targeting Avenatti, etc, is HORRIBLE ENOUGH without bombs.
Pinker was a good researcher in his early work on language, but he is… what is the expression? way out of his lane. Has been for years. And he’s apparently getting more and more misogynistic and jerky.
If you have found his writings about anything evolutionary to be persuasive,
I recommend reading The Trouble With Nature by R. Lancaster.
Incisive and funny. And we can all use some fun!
Funny thing, Pinker is probably not nearly white enough for Kelly and her fellow travelers,
but he’s insulated enough not to care.
Before I was aware Steve Pinker was a thing, I saw one of his books on the library’s new books shelf. It was on thinking or how the brain works, I don’t remember the title.
I did an old trick. I looked up something I knew about the in the index and checked what he had to say about it.
My topic was autism, and I immediately saw that he cherry-picked a very debateable and somewhat tangential idea about autism to base several pages of argument supporting whatever his thesis was.
It was amateurish, shallow and dishonest, and I was done with him. So not surprised to hear he said something facetious about this series of terrorist attacks.
If Kemp’s shit was being pulled in another country the international community would be demanding new elections, because he’s doing tin pot dictator shit.
And the fact so many people don’t care about abuses to the democratic process, as long as their guy wins, is what is most upsetting to me.
Republicans could not get away with their election fuckery, without a large percentage of the population cheering them on.
Grrr. Power blinked out for no more than one second. Just long enough to have to go around the abode and do the clock dance.
This is an advantage of analog clocks.
Also, too, is the site giving anyone else problems? The hamster seems to be on break, and the markup buttons are missing.
“Press got gamed”? He’s playing the blame the fake news media card too? Poor boy’s been reduced to playing a partisan echo to get himself noticed. Press will get gamed if they bother to expend any binary digits on his reverberations.
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: her agents Bialystock & Bloom
I hear they’re producing her new play…………….kind of a revisionist historical thing.
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: makes you wonder with that track record of personnel decision making, wtf is he doing still being employed, obviously he has the skills to turn 1,000,000 into 100, but normally that’s not a desired skill set for his current position…
Dallas Morning News also endorses Beto, by saying he’s like Tip O’Neill ?. Yeah, that’s the first person I think of when I see Beto.
They do agree with Beto on issues, too. I want to be excited, then I remember they endorsed Hillary too.
Steve in the ATL
@piratedan: he hires right wingers and fires left wingers, just like his bosses want him to do
@Lyrebird: Wikipedia says Pinker is Jewish, so not in the club, unless Trump decides to hire him for something that he deems Jewish people to be good at.
Anyway, Pinker is just plain wrong. Events like these are not like random sinkholes that open up and swallow a few random poor souls every year in swampy places.
Saying these bombs are minor is like saying a small outbreak of an infectious disease is minor. Or just a few white reactionary jerks deciding to shoot some cops on lunch break, or run down and kill a protester are minor. A minor event can well be a sing of major things to come if not attended to. A bigshot philosopher type should be able to squeeze out that much reason. No attempt at terrorism is minor, Though we blow up certain types out of proportion (if not by white reactionaries) and try ignore others (by white reactionaries).
I look at the actual problems facing this country and I think they are all solvable. The only real problems we are facing are self induced by Republicans.
Tinkering with the tax code to lessen income inequality can be done.
Better and more affordable healthcare can be done throw allowing people to buy into Medicare or Medicaid.
Wages can rise by indexing the minimum wage to inflation.
There is more, but I think they are all solvable, if we had the political will to solve them. We have the resources, as a country, to meet challenges.
The hard part is educating fellow citizens to see that this is the richest country on the planet and if tried to better allocate our resources, there ain’t nothing we can do. Too many people just see the struggle in their own lives, and not the bigger picture.
Site’s been on again, off again funky here for the past 48 hours.

@gene108: Or utterly ignore bettering their own lives to “own the libs”.
Fuck them. They deserve to be serfs.
I wish I could say I’m surprised that the right wing is falling back on Sideshow Bob’s “attempted chemistry” argument to say there was no harm, no foul, but I’m really not surprised at all.
Bombs in the mail and what is the Trump Administration DHS doing? Appearing on Fox News, babbling incoherently about “migrant caravans”
Low quality hires. Every single one of them. She should have been canned after incarcerating those 3 year olds and then lying about it. I hope the bombs aren’t a real threat. If they are, we’re in trouble. These people are the bottom of the barrel.
My dad was also born around October 35th
Must express surprise that Dolt 45 hasn’t yet tried one upmanship by announcing the White House has intercepted “thousands of atomic bombs” sent addressed to him.
I have been known to use that One Weird Trick to judge unabridged dictionaries and encyclopædias.
We’re having a mini meetup at the South Edisto coffee shop at 9am tomorrow if anyone is in the vicinity!
Yes, it’s been funky for me (iPhone, Safari) for a couple of hours.
Funkier than usual, I mean. The funk has become normalised.
Republicans are the kind of people who think everything’s fine as long as it’s somebody else getting the bomb in the mail.
“Hm. Pretty darn sure there are no helicopters in Aida.”
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@NotMax: Aristotle. Was not. Belgian.
@RAVEN: Won’t it be funny if someone else shows up!
TS (the original)
And of course, a majority of their supporters on the SCOTUS
@lamh36: But of course she’s trying to drag someone else down with her. NBC shouldn’t have hired a racist in the first place — especially for $69 million.
TS (the original)
When his Secret Service detail won’t even tell him he has TP stuck to his shoe – are they really going to lie for him about threats at the WH. No doubt the WH staff would spread the story but security is one issue they have no control over.
Yup, and everybody on the Republican/Deplorables Death List should be on high Alert, from the Sandy Hook Parents to Planned Parenthood.
Not everybody has a Mail Security Service.
$50 million? WTF does she think she’s ever done to earn anything like that? Other than lie on TV. Sorry, forgot she’s been an asshole as well. But even as assholes go she’s not worth $1.95.
Was Pinker always like this, or is this new.
@Mary G: Wow! So Trump is above the law and Kavanaugh will make sure of that. Well, Democrats should run on packing the Supreme Court in 2020 then. This is still a democracy. For now.
@TS (the original)
Snippet from the latest season of Rake on Netflix has the U.S. Secretary of Defense (paraphrasing) confiding, “You don’t actually think we’d give such an a-hole the real nuclear launch codes?”
She got a $17 million dollar a year, 4 year guaranteed contract.
Reportedly one was also sent to Robert De Niro, and they were all mailed from (wait for it) Florida..
@NotMax: You spelled Floriduh wrong.
Word is CNN’s been targetted again.
Always like that.
It’s not entirely new. The CATO Institute have had their tongue up his ass because they love his “You’ve never had it so good” message. It meshes very nicely with their own thesis that the little people should be damn grateful for anything the rich deign to give them, and should be shot on sight if they dare to complain.
Pinker needs to retract his statement if he wants to retain any credibility. Sure a few bombs that didn’t explode is a “minor” thing if body count math is your measure but wiser academics have pointed out that our society is held together by norms that are primarily symbolic. There is no tangible measureable thing called democracy. We can’t point to an unchangeable geographic feature called justice. These things work only because the vast majority if citizens believe they should. When someone with an ideological vendetta decides that leaders of one point of view should be threatened with extermination then the foundation of the intangibles that form the floor of our existence are threatened. It’s as if someone decided that Pinker’s tenure was an antiquated notion and threatened the Harvard administration unless he was removed. In the case of the bomb threats we see a determination to tear this country apart, not physically but with cold calculation nonetheless.
Fukiyama, Brooks, Friedman, Yoo, etc. The list goes on and on.
There are no consequences for the Fluffers of Empire.
@ljt: It would!
@Dan B: You’d think that a “cognitive scientist” would understand the power of symbolism and the importance of icons.
Pinker seems to have un-remembered his Psych 101.
Somewhere in this universe, there’s a director who has replaced the elephants and camels in the Triumphal March with drones.
That’s It. It’s a topic here, too. Mr. Pinker can just go write more books for more idiots.
“Was Pinker always like this, or is this new.”
I think his hair was always like this but, after a few books and public accolade, he became the fine sought after gentleman he always wanted to become.
At some point and, early on, the short version is:
“Is this dude for Real?”
Advanced Credit: no.
That nice man….
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
I would gladly go away for 10% of what you paid Ms. Kelly with the added benefit that I would not humiliate the Peacock Network while taking it
Never much of a Pinker fan myself. An oversimplifier who occasionally gets things right but not often enough.
My fave performance of his is in Christmas in Connecticut.
LOve the reference
I just watched High Anxiety!
Yes, I am so grateful that the fears did not pan out.
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Sounds like Lack is perfect for a job in the Trump administration.
Any word from Avalune?
Good trick for vetting new sources. And it worked in this case didn’t it?
@ Ken Shabby
I’ve seen and heard numerous interviews with Steven Pinker and he’s always come across as a smarmy, insufferable douchebag.
“….wiser academics have pointed out that our society is held together by norms that are primarily symbolic. There is no tangible measureable thing called democracy.“
This is almost exactly what Pinker has tried to build a career on; the complexity and nuance of human behavior. Crashing irony is, by the thesis of his own life’s work, this should be blatantly self evident, not swept under the rug like B.O. on the escalator to his office.
I sometimes think he’s a diehard fan of BF Skinner who got lost his sophomore year at college and all he needs to do is show up somewhere and pull out an elegant, well groomed cattle prod.
A TA that finally made prof and tenure. But, kept the hair and bought some suits and snappy shoes.
FUQ YOU CENK!
@Baud: I don’t think Trump hires from NBC, just Faux.
if you haven’t seen it, you must check out his performance in The Hucksters.
@zhena gogolia: “My fave performance of his is in Christmas in Connecticut.”
Mine too, it’s so great to see him not being a bad guy for a change. OTOH, did you ever read Georgette Heyer’s 1930s mystery (i.e., not a Regency romance) “Envious Casca”? I’ve always thought she based the character on him — or at least, if they had ever made a movie of it, he should be starred.

Evo psych is a field that has produced some interesting theories as well as some unfortunate shit that got used by pickup artists to justify the bullshit they were selling.
Unless it’s a Wall Street speech, right, Cenk?
Poor Lack. I guess he’ll just have to be promoted up at NBC.
Thank goodness it’s not brown people terrorism. That would be serious.
If the perps were Islamists, I somehow don’t think Pinker would be describing them as a “few malicious jerks” engaged in “vindictive stunts”.
@Doug R: The Soros package was exploded, or disrupted by the authorities.
I have been checking out Pinker’s Twitter feed. What a crank.
Until proven otherwise, I’m calling these out as the assassination attempts that they are…GOP, Republican, Trumpublican, whatever you want to tack onto that is fine, but they are GOP/Republican/Trumpublican assassination attempts.
I’m not sure people really ‘get’ where we are at, at this point in time:
– pipe bombs being sent far and wide to Democratic officials and Trumpov critics
– a GOP party hack shoved through to the Supreme Court, despite his mysteriously disappearing debt and quite plausible attempted rape, all to protect the GOP’s god-emperor down the road
– Trumpov caught out running cover for a premeditated murder plot against a Washington Post journalist
– Trumpov also caught out using an unsecured phone, with our enemies listening in (and therefore, manipulating him down the road at will)
– Trumpov also blaming the media for attracting violent attacks, instead of blaming the attacker
– Trumpov also praising an admitted violent attacker OF a journalist…with said attacker being a US congressman…
And of course, once Nov 7th rolls around, we’re going to hear more bullshit about millions of “illegals” voting.
Nothing to be done about it except beat on the GOP officials that enable it. Even once we take the House, they should not be allowed to hide from the consequences of what they’ve enabled/lied about here.
As a “PS”, I’ll add that John Kasich looks like he has decided it’s time to get back in the game and oppose Trumpov (as in primary challenge). He dropped a pair of videos today – there may have been more – but he’s clearly going to take up that fight shortly after the midterms. I’m sure he’s not thinking of the country first, but his challenge, and what it does to the GOP, is sorely needed if we’re ever going to get this country back on track.
@lamh36: Sputnik or RT or another of Putin’s propaganda organs would probably welcome her with open arms.
According Stinker’s tweets..

In any other time, every news outlet would be covering this mass attempt at political assassinations to the exclusion of everything else with the possible exception of the World Series.
The normalization, the “they brought it on themselves,” the “media is to blame,” the forced bothsiderism, the NOOT lexicon of eliminationism.
The absolute moral bankruptcy of a Congress unwilling to utter a single criticism of a president so giddy in the pursuit of punishing the manifestations of the sum of his fears.
A supine press. An infotainment system willing to look past the clear and present danger to those employed by them, because ratings and profit.
I’m sick to the core of my being.
May I interject some brightness amidst the darkness of the political world?
Welcome to Science Toy Maker. https://sciencetoymaker.org/
Well shit, what happened to the link button? I forgot the coding bullshit we used to do to link or italicize or some other shit we made easier.
Fucking Cole, the only blog that has regressed in basic technology in the past two years. It’s like he’s the reverse Rick roll of blogging.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@lamh36: Megs and Cenk can meet on a park bench and she can do the podcast I’m sure he has. Hell, with 69 million, she can even get them a table at a Starbucks.
Penzys will not be cowed:
@Jeffro: Yeah, Kasich has been running for 2020 since he bombed out in ‘16.
He is most definitely not a moderate, he just looks like one in comparison to Trump.
He will give Republicans cover: they will use their support for him to repudiate Trump and look like they are reforming the GOP. But they will be furthering most of the same crap Trump dishes out. Just in a quieter voice.
@OGLiberal: Oh hey speaking of Fox…here are the top five news stories on Fox News dot com right now:
5) ‘strange black pouches’ washing up on Carolina beaches aren’t plastic…they’re skate egg pouches (seriously! That’s what’s important today!!)
4) newborn contracted deadly herpes virus from mom’s kiss
3) master manipulator extorted Utah student before killing her (complete with pics of black male murdered and white female victim, natch)
2) investigation narrows into Florida re: the pipe bombs (actual article says “Florida seen as region of interest”) Not a single word about how every one of the assassination attempts was directed at a prominent Democrat or public critic of Trumpov
you know it
1) “Questions arise over politics, motivation of caravan organizers”. Seriously. It’s like the longest Cavuto Mark ever!!
I think you’re judging Cole harshly.
1) I don’t think he’s done much of anything up until now. But he’s clearly gearing up to run at Trumpov, whether for his own gain or to bring the party down or what, I don’t know and it doesn’t really matter. I am completely supportive of his run, as it will much more clearly split the GOP than it is now with these mealy-mouthed #NeverTrumpers.
2) Agreed and agreed.
3) He will give half of the GOP cover…great! Let that half openly have it out with the half that worships their orange idol. Whatever it takes to help flush them all down the drain and put the adults back in charge.
@lamh36: I was wondering when they’d get around to DiFi, and I’m sure there is one out there with Kamala’s name on it. Maybe two. And Cory Booker. Andrew Gillum. Amy Klobuchar. Schumer and Pelosi.
She should work on stopping the bombs in the mail instead of running around race-baiting with cable tv celebrities.
It’s not just that they’re horrible people, the Trump hires. They also don’t do their jobs.
Mike in DC
JFC. They’re not even “Mexicans”.
Y’all have way too many channels playing Radio Rwanda.

@Jeffro: Oh, Florida most definitely qualifies as a “Region of Interest” on so very many levels.
It’s sometimes said of Trump that the first failing is mitigated by the second. Nope. In Nielsen’s case, double nope.
Everybody on the Republican’s Death Lists should be aware and alert.
Yeah, Rick roll is kinda harsh.
He’s like reverse dramatic chipmunk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1Y73sPHKxw
@Mike in DC:
hah! I’m old enough to remember when she was the mature, responsible Trump hire. Now she’s Sean Hannity.
Those bombs in the mail are a problem, though. She should do something. Thank goodness there’s some engaged workers at America’s mail sorting facilities. Maybe Fox could interview one of them- talk about unsung heroes. They’re not even armed!
No, I haven’t read it.
Perfect! And I clicked!
They go to work there and they’re somewhat normal, but 6 months later they’re all foaming at the mouth ranting about shooting Mexicans. I don’t think we can even imagine how horrible it is to work there. They need to quit before it’s too late and they can’t be rehabilitated and re-enter society and lead productive lives. It’s too late for Nielsen. She’ll have to work at Fox.
@HumboldtBlue: Waaah, I’m not getting my money’s worth out of this blog. It’s not just you, but the number of complainers who are apparently clueless about how browser Autofill can be customized so no typing of either nym or email is involved and various other complaints are getting on my already hair-triggered nerves. The blog is old and borked. Deal with it.
This blog is my lifeline to sanity in these insane times, and I would put up with a hell of a lot more trouble to keep coming here for emotional and moral support, and will donate generously to the redesign set for after the election.

Penn is the guy who can’t count delegates.
Well, I went to a Democratic dinner tonight and they’re very fired up. We have a very young state legislature candidate who has just been such fun to watch over the past year. He’s gotten so good at this! I feel like I knew he had potential but I haven’t heard his speech in months and he’s 10x better than he was then. He has a full time job at a furniture factory here in addition to campaigning – sometimes his mother drives him to events so he can nap on the way because his district covers so much ground. You wonder why people do this, what keeps them going. They’re extroverts so they get jazzed up by other people, but it’s just so much TIME. I don’t think I’m that generous. I would want time off.
@spudgun: Pinker’s not the first (& surely won’t be the last) intelligent person to make a stupid & ill-considered knee-jerk comment about a situation he thinks he understands but really doesn’t. Just look at all the stupid & ill-considered knee-jerk reactions to his tweet on this thread by (presumably) intelligent people.
@Roger Moore: Well put. An unfortunately all rare voice of sanity in this thread where frothing at the mouth seems to be the rage.
“The blog is old and borked. Deal with it.”
Umm yeah, that’s what I’m doing.
(See what I did there?)
Mocking Cole is how I deal with it, I thought that was the default.
Well, playing a man who is fond of eating wasn’t much of a stretch.
Think my favorite is the short scene he played along with Peter Lorre in Hollywood Canteen, wherein they both parodied their sinister movie personas.
@HumboldtBlue: Sorry, that was not right, what I did. I aimed at you when the actual target is some other people from the last couple of days, and my snark meter is in the shop.
@schrodingers_cat: Well it seems that “Stinker” has won the quadfecta! at a minimum.
Nuclear energy is our only salvation. Okay pony up, empty your wallet. Georgia has a reactor that needs more than a bake sale.
PC is the biggest problem. Rrrright…. Now about that deficit, and the strained alliances, and the citizens of Puerto Rico, and just about every black, brown, and LGBT person, and the people of Yemen, Syria, Honduras, etc.
But I go on.
Understand. Keep cussing it can only help.
And the “see what I did there” was an attempt at the old manual HTML formatting we used to format the text and it proved useless.
So Cole has even fucked that up.
I know. I keep pointing out autofill on Chrome and Firefox, yet every few threads is a Icantkeeptheboxcheckedformynym.
TWO mouse clicks on Chrome.
