Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

How stupid are these people?

This blog will pay for itself.

Let me file that under fuck it.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The revolution will be supervised.

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

No one could have predicted…

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

the NYT's bothsides fetish has led them to print some pretty nonsensical stuff but "The Case For Mail-Bombing These Guys" is a real showstopper pic.twitter.com/jA1zljfs4z

I haven’t been posting because the stupidity is just too much for me to bear, but wanted to pop my head out of my prairie dog hole to post this. My brother and I were texting yesterday about the MAGAbomber, and we were joking that Fox would soon be telling us how he’s the Democrat’s fault. I guess the Times beat them to the punch.

Seven dead, three cops shot at Tree of Life Synagogue in the Squirrel Hill section of Pittsburgh. Active shooter still in building. Every cop in the region called in. Horrible.

The seven dead are members of the synagogue?

Mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue. At least four dead.

Wanted to snark about Trump but I find myself unable right now.

I’m fairly certain that’s the business model.

A friend from Georgia just texted me pictures of him standing in line to early vote.

I’m going to tell you – this shyt makes me madder than a mutha.

I live a city of 2 million people. I have 52 places where I can go, and could walk into any one of them if I wanted.
I don’t plan on spending longer than 20 minutes voting – from check in to check out.

Dekalb County has 10 Early Voting Sites, and you gotta go to a SPECIFIC ONE?

    Phuck outta here.

NO WAY that this shyt ain’t deliberate.

    @geg6: God-fucking damn it.

Just last night Trump blamed “the Democrats” and “the Media” for the mail bombs, saying “they brought it on themselves”.

Yeah, we made MAGAbomber chant “Lock her up!” at your rallies and plaster his van with target-covered faces because we don’t like you or your policies and are willing to say so. Stupid son of a bitch has unleashed the Dogs of Hell on America. We’ve got to bring him and them to heel.

A stark reminder of the real world consequences Republicans are wreaking.

Can we classify Right Wing Conservatism as a form of mental illness yet? The utter disregard for real world realities, the depth of the paranoia, and the virulence of the violence it triggers: to me, it certainly qualifies.

The fact that millions suffer from it should not make it be seen as any kind of “normal.”

I LOVE LOVE LOVE New Mexico’s voting system. Early voting for a month at county government offices, then multiple “voting convenience centers” for almost a month, and on the day of the election precint-free voting where all you do is show up, given identifying information and they print the appropriate ballow for your district and you fill it out and run it through a scanner. I know this state is poor and we certainly have a lot of other issues, but dammit we got voting right.

I keep telling folks that one of the first pieces of legislation the Dems need to pass when we’re back in power is a “National Voting Rights Act” like our state’s system that the whole country has to implement in order to get Federal funding. Enough with the fucking with our right to register and vote. That and political/campaign finance reform would be more important than pretty much anything at this point because it would lead to everything else we need to have in America getting done.

Well, thank god there’s an ombudsman at the NYT we can take our concerns to – wait, what? Oh.

Maybe it’s worth spending time on this from a different angle? Like “What did the Dems say or do that led Trump to attack them viciously for years and call for their imprisonment or other attacks, leading to the MAGABomber?” Sigh.

It is quite deliberate. Intentional. Purposeful. Planned. I live in a small GA county. The polling place in the ward where most African Americans was closed without public notice supposedly due to lack of funding. It was moved 2 miles away on the other side of town. Racists know what they are doing. When confronted, they lied, lied & then lied some more. We are not silent & we continue to press for change.

Agree 100%! A rider needs to be attached that any state not in compliance will have all federal funds withdrawn including military, environment, schools, highways, etc.

This election will indelibly stain John Roberts. His decision & words are incompatible with a vibrant democracy.

    @Cheryl Rofer:

California is weak on early voting, though we now have weekend early voting centers and will have more improvements in time for 2020.

We also use Scantron (Inkavote) ballots, and there are a few electronic voting stations available for anyone who needs that (ie disabled people).

Plus they have cameras in the LA County Clerk’s office so you can actually watch them check and tally the ballots.

I totally agree. I also know that Kavanaugh and the other 4 Republican justices will wave their hands, say something, something “states rights” and find it unconstitutional, possibly while adding only in this limited circumstance i.e. when it helps minority and Democratic leaning voters get more access. If a Republican Congress passes a Voting Safety bill, that limits voters rights, states rights, like in California will go out the window.

    I can’t believe how cynical I’ve become.

I also voted today, straight Democratic ticket.

I know there are reasons for hating the NYT, but this particular piece didn’t seem to me like blaming the targets. It seemed to me that it was just documenting the fact that the targets are all people Trump regards as his enemies. It’s important to keep this in the public mind.

@WereBear: No. People of all demographics get mental illness. This is a mostly cis het white male affliction. That they behave the way the culture socializes them doesn’t get to be written off by pushing that off on the rest of us mentally ill people.

There is nothing irrational in this. They are defending explicit privileges and advantages. It’s not crazy. They just don’t have the same opinion as you on how society should be structured and what political actions are acceptable.
