Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Republicans in disarray!

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

This blog will pay for itself.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

The words do not have to be perfect.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

“But what about the lurkers?”

White supremacy is terrorism.

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

I have nothing to add to the Wohl shitshow discussed by Tom and Cheryl, but I felt this title for a post was too good to pass up. Watching the Pens and relaxing- Genine is on a flight back to the left coast.

Thurston misses her.

Jeezus, what a fucked up episode. That said, weaponizing the “Me Too” movement against us could be a clear and present danger and we all need to be on guard. But that was one dumb stunt. I hope the kid gets some amount of jail time out of it as a lesson.

Be prepared. In 2020 there will be a long list of Dem candidates accused of sexual assault. The GOP see this as a huge win for them. 1) It drives down support from liberals and women. 2) In inoculated shitbags like Kavanaugh so that they can name Ted Bundy to the USSC. 3) It empowers men, particularly white men at the cost of women, whom they still feel don’t know their place. 4) it causes more hurt and anger that they live on

I remember Jack Burkman from a Bill Maher show a long time ago. He said he was looking forward to the “balmy weather” that global warming will bring. He’s a complete moron. I’ve no idea why Maher invites these idiots on his show. They contribute nothing to any conversation.

It’s true, incompetent clowns can do an awful lot of harm through their sheer incompetence; but I think we’d be worse off if they knew what the fuck they were doing.

If I knew anyone cat-oriented in Chicago, I would be all over them right now. But Twitter is agog at some wretched people who dropped their 24-year-old cat – yes, 24 YEARS OLD – at a shelter because it didn’t get along with the new kitten and the Yorkie.

This poor baby now has a foster home, but needs a forever one. I know everyone at BJ would take him in an instant. Someone must live near Chicago.

Just read a bit about Trump’s visit to Tree of Life. Just outside on the street, someone put up a row of eleven white Stars of Davids on short stands, each inscribed with a victim’s name. It looks like they are made of wood, and they are a reminiscent of the white crosses people around here sometimes put up on the sides of the highway where there have been fatal crashes. I have never seen anything like it in front of a synagogue but then again, this is new territory.

Melania laid a white rose on each one — No! We Jews do not do flowers at funerals or on graves; apparently the two of them also bought stones from the White House, which they also laid on the top of the stars.

That is a real Jewish tradition, to leave stones on a graveside monument to show you have visited. Though monuments are not generally not erected until a full year has passed.

I found it a rather odd ceremony. A take-off on Jewish traditions at an ersatz graveyard. Well, it kept them away from the mourners, and that is good.

Generally, it means come back in 15 minutes, because Twitter is trying to bork your reader for not letting it place corporate spooge advertising on your screen.

@MazeDancer: In mid-winter an elderly guy on our street tossed out a little cat who his neighbor said was over 20 at the least. She would run out across the ice to us from under his house whenever we walked by, so I took her inside and went to talk to him. He said she’d stopped using the litter and he couldn’t get down to clean up any more. He was fighting to stay on in his house himself. It turned out her failing kidneys were the problem. The KD food and one course of fluids were enough and she settled in on a bathroom shelf for the next 3 years with us and the other cats. They gave her her space because she just took it.

She was a great, great cat. Tough and tiny and fragile-looking as a bird. Every day around noon she walked to the door and out to sit for 30 min on the door stoop in the sun, and then back in again. She had a huge aura. Eventually she had a stroke, then carried on exactly the same at a tilt, for another year and a half. I cried hard when she was gone and buried her in her sun spot.

Come on up to South Pennsyltucky. George Scott in PA10 has a 1 in 3 chance* of beating the odious Scott Perry. It’s a Swing Left district. My district, PA11, newly attached to Lancaster has a great long shot* candidate, Jess King. We need canvassers!

I think they are just trying to sound specific, as if they would not take 1 penny less. My guy wanted bitcoin so stating it as 599 US is just stupid, that would be 0.095599090292 of a bitcoin today. It would sound more informed to say 0.1 bitcoin which would be ~626.50US

@tomtofa: currently between homes, but we have a sublet all queued up in TriBeCa (thanks autocorrect) in mid-November. The reason it’s complicated is we have to attend sequential weddings in Hawaii and New York, and the flight leaves from SFO—so we’re just taking that vacation and ditching the return flight. Samwise went on ahead of us to a friend’s.

@Ladyraxterinok: Probably under the delusion that since blue voters got nowhere else to go he might shake free enough of the KDMBs (knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers) in that blood-red CD to win. Dream on – if it nets him more than 30 votes I’d be the most surprised person in MD. The Abominable Anesthesiologist Andy Harris will probably wipe the floor with him – par for the course when you shove so many KDMBs into one CD like that. I just feel bad that tobie wasted so much time & energy (& probably not a little $$$) on this sumbidge’s campaign.

We’ve put so many in the ground since my partner cares for a colony on a big greenbelt acriss the street from his rental house. They get spayed and food but it’s still a short life. Those left after one dies react in many ways but they each show signs of some sort.

Omgosh sorry to hear about the kitty ?

@Ohio Mom: The hospital is 1.25 hours from apartment but I’ve been driving the dog to my sons hotel room because it’s closer to the hospital for taking her out. The court house made me go back to the hospital and each way for that was 45 mins 4x. A buttload of driving much of it in an area I didn’t really know. Hopefully I just go the once more to deliver ballot.

Next week the kid goes back to Hawaii so I’ll have to drive from the apartment every day and go back early enough to get the dog.

As aggravating as the in-laws can be it will be good to know they are close or there to keep an eye on things when I can’t be. ?

Sorry for the confusion. If Socks still needs a home, and can tolerate two other crotchety cats, I will take him/her. A relay from Chicago to Denver would be preferable to a full road trip, but not a show stopper.
