Ooga-Booga

This post is in: Immigration, Open Threads, Politics, Post-racial America, Republican Stupidity, Assholes, Clown car, General Stupidity

FacebookTweetEmail

Trump is about to walk into the Roosevelt Room, insert his tiny pinky fingers into the corners of his butthole-like mouth, stretch his lips, stick out his tongue and shout “OOGA BOOGA” while using his index fingers and thumbs to stretch the raccoon-like white bands of fatty flesh around his beady eyes to make his eyeballs bulge out. I’m not making this up:

President Donald Trump on Thursday will highlight immigration as a “crisis” facing the nation, making remarks from the Roosevelt Room of the White House before he travels to Columbia, Missouri, for another campaign rally, the second of 11 he plans in a last-minute blitz before Election Day on Tuesday.

At the White House, Trump will speak about “the illegal immigration crisis and give an update on border security,” according to White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

The president’s remarks come as he has called for restricting asylum requests, ending birthright citizenship and sending thousands of additional troops to border as a caravan of migrants makes its way toward the United States from Central America.

There is no goddamned illegal immigration “crisis,” of course (and kudos for the scare quotes, ABC News). This is pure racist demagoguery, and it would be laughable if the racist demagogue in question didn’t command a large standing army and have the allegiance of millions of idiot citizens. I’m not streaming the “remarks” here because fuck that guy.

I hope this shit blows up in Trump’s ugly face in a big way, and I think there’s a chance it could, especially in places like Florida, where this kind of absurd performance art underscores the GOP’s racism and xenophobia problems.

“From the papers, the military is preparing to defend against an “estimated 200 unregulated armed militia members currently operating along the [Southwest Border]. Reported Incidents of unregulated militias stealing National Guard equipment during deployments. I don’t think it will work, IMO it probably will be a net zero. I don’t see that many people are going to listen to this piece of shit (I can’t use shitgibbon anymore because I like gibbons) and say “I wasn’t going to vote Republican before but now I will!”. But I also suspect that it won’t really lose him votes. Hopefully it will motivate an extra percent or two of Hispanics and other POC to vote against him.

This is red meat for the base. Problem for them is, the base is a fixed number, and it’s not a majority. He needs idiots and squishes. And a lot of them are figuring out that this is performative bullshit. A lot more of them are seeing that he’s just a damn liar about everything under the sun. It’s too bad the midterms are before taxtime, because once they see what the “tax cuts” have done to them they’ll be burning shit in the streets.

How the caravan bashing translates downticket I do not know, but I don’t think this is very helpful.

Donald Trump, whose time in office has been defined in large part by his frequent falsehoods and misleading statements, claimed Wednesday he tries to be truthful.

“I remember, you remember well in the campaign, you made a promise. You said, ‘I will never lie to you,'” ABC News’ Jon Karl said to Trump in a new interview. “So can you tell me now, honestly, have you kept that promise at all times? Have you always been truthful?”
“Well I try. I mean, I do try. I think you try, too. You say things about me that are not necessarily correct,” Trump replied. “I do try, and I always want to tell the truth. When I can, I tell the truth.”
“I mean sometimes it turns out to be where something happens that’s different or there’s a change. But I always like to be truthful,” he added.

    There is no fucking god.

@MjOregon: The taxpayer is on the hook for his travel, lodging and security. Incumbency has tremendous advantages that way.

The rest is chump change. Get the ever-shrinking space needed, venues aren’t that expensive and are probably donated by the local Republicans. The insurance is not cheap, someone is picking up the tab on that. And it costs to get in! 50 bucks a throw, I think, is the going rate for the Hateapalooza. He’s making money on them, I am certain of that.

The only expense I can’t really pin down is insurance. He’s not getting that waived, so someone is footing that bill. Probably the GOP – the party.

The campaign rallies double as fundraisers.
He, Trump grifts “campaign contributions” from his believers everywhere he goes. And he’s always campaigning.

As Herman Cain and Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee demonstrated, running for President can be much more remunerative than being President, and campaign contributions are fungible and not well tracked; if you have some left over when you quit campaigning, that’s just gravy.

So Trump is getting paid to do each rally, in a backhanded way, which is how he does everything.

I just started reading “The Apprentice” by Greg Miller. On his first or second day in office, Trump was taken to address a group of CIA employees. He almost immediately strayed from prepared remarks and just started lying and bragging about his business record, the huge crowds at campaign rallies, etc. Miller also notes that Fat Bastard basically doesn’t walk more than a few paces; he always needs a golf cart standing by to whisk him from place to place. That’s probably been the case for the last 20 years or so. This promises to be a very strange and depressing book about a very strange and degenerate individual. Hoping for a blowout next week.

Roger Stone’s story just changed on Russia — again

Earlier this week, longtime Donald Trump adviser Roger Stone told The Washington Post that he hasn’t discussed WikiLeaks with anybody from the Trump campaign. Asked about Stephen K. Bannon being asked by special council Robert S. Mueller III’s investigators about such contacts, Stone was clear in his denial.

“There are no such communications,” Stone said, “and if Bannon says there are, he would be dissembling.”

That denial has already fallen apart.

The New York Times reported Thursday that Stone emailed with Bannon about WikiLeaks just days before it first started releasing Russia’s hacked Hillary Clinton emails. After WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange claimed publicly to have documents related to the U.S. presidential race, Bannon reportedly emailed Stone on Oct. 4: “What was that this morning???” Stone responded: “A load every week going forward.”

Stone told The Post on Thursday that he “was unaware of this email exchange until it was leaked.”

“We had not turned it up in our search,” he added. “We can find no others to campaign officials.”

This is my shocked face. : |

California will keep sitting over here, marinating in our blueness, with out millions of immigrants and 5th largest economy in the world status, giving y’all the finger.

@L85NJGT: It’s actually not related to low cost produce. It’s related to produce, period. Farm wages in Napa average over $40K, and often include benefits. A lot of these jobs aren’t unskilled. Knowing how to prune fruit trees, and do it quickly and effectively takes a fair bit of time to learn. Tying grapes and selecting and harvesting other crops isn’t easy. The easy work has been automated. Hard labor tasks are good for automation, smart labor tasks aren’t so easy. One of the big farm labor companies in the state pays $19 for entry level and they’ve never had a white, US born person apply for one of those jobs. Many farms here are moving to Mexico simply because they can get labor there.

trump wants a war – (new) wars (before they are lost) win elections, regardless of party. So not having a war of merit he dreams up an attack on a thousand poor, barefoot, deprived immigrants seeking refuge from unbelievable poverty.

This is the president* and every last democrat should be calling it what it is – trumps war of diminishing returns.

@Martin: White, U.S born people have more options than to work in the hot fields. Besides that, the children of those farmers don’t want to stay in town where it’s boring and there are few jobs anyway. Migrant workers don’t mind staying for a short time and going away in a town with few amenities.

I’m beginning to feel optimistic about this election we’re in now. The Trumpian commercials are so ridiculous, his lies are so obvious, normal people aren’t gonna fall for that BS anymore.

I think we’re going to win in GA and FL and maybe even in TX. I suspect we will turn the Senate as well. I have champagne in case we win at all, and more if we win the Senate too. Friend at the wine and cheese shop told me today that last election he chugged a bottle of champagne and curled up deep under the covers. I was at least that bad. It was awful.

But I had a sinking feeling last election. This year things seem to be turning around. Dawg knows we’ve donated enough, Ouch! so much donated, but all for good causes — democratic candidates!

How come those folks don’t universally die early from all the exertion? (Maybe stress, but that’s another matter). But we find 90 and even 100 year old vets who survived war zones with their tremendous exertion.

The president’s remarks come as he has called for restricting asylum requests, ending birthright citizenship and sending thousands of additional troops to border as a caravan of migrants makes its way toward the United States from Central America.

It’s weird. Trump has been talking shit about immigration restrictions since he started running for president.

But I half-wonder why he decided to hit hard on the birthright citizenship thing now. Yeah, I see the obvious, that he is trying to rally his base for the midterms. But I wonder if there is any other reason rattling around in his twisted mind.

    @TenguPhule:

Trump is now warning that migrants have “big medical problems before they get here.”

Colbert or another comedian showed a clip of some Trump supporting nutjob claiming that people in the caravan had smallpox. Smallpox, of course, has been eradicated all over the planet.

It is crazy to see a president lie so much and pander so hard to fear and bigotry. It’s becoming nonstop bullshit.

@CarolDuhart2: Well that’s a dumb idea in the first place but you know that. You extend life by exertion.

YOUNGER NEXT YEAR draws on the very latest science of aging to show how men 50 or older can become functionally younger every year for the next five to ten years, and continue to live like fifty-year-olds until well into their eighties. To enjoy life and be stronger, healthier, and more alert. To stave off 70% of the normal decay associated with aging (weakness, sore joints, apathy). and to eliminate over 50% of all illness and potential injuries. This is the real thing, a program that will work for anyone who decides to apply himself to “Harry’s Rules.”
Harry is Henry S. Lodge, M.D., a specialist in internal medicine and preventive healthcare. Chris Crowley is Harry’s 70-year-old patient who’s stronger today (and skiing better) than when he was 40. Together, in alternating chapters that are lively, sometimes outspoken, and always utterly convincing, they spell out Harry’s Rules and the science behind them. The rules are deceptively simple: Exercise Six Days a Week, Eat What You Know You Should, Connect to Other People and Commit to Feeling Passionate About Something. The science, simplified and demystified, ranges from molecular biology of growth and decay to how our bodies and minds evolved (and why they fare so poorly in our sedentary, all-feast, no-famine culture). The result is nothing less than a paradigm shift in our view of aging.

@L85NJGT: Exactly. And with no young people, there’s no introduction of new skills. And mind you, you don’t need to keep your young people captive, instead, you can build a university, attract them there, and the jobs will follow.

⅓ of the nation’s private sector R&D spending goes to CA, and the vast majority of that money goes to areas that are either spun out of CA universities or are closely affiliated with them. CA gets 75x the R&D spending that Iowa gets. 7x that of Texas. $75B per year (that’s a lot of jobs). ⅔ of the green tech funding nationally goes to CA. That happens because we’re driving the regulations nationally, and because we have more university students than Iowa has people. CA confers 100K science and engineering degrees every year. That’s a LOT of startup labor, and we punch 3x-5x higher than we should given our population.

@Martin: IowaStatevand the U of Iowa have benn excellent universities. In the last decade or so, however, the anti-intellectual forces in the legislature have been less and less willing to support the unversities adequately. One argument I read in the 80s when I still lived in Ames was ‘why should we support the schools when a lot of the students are from out-of-state?’ In that climate no one felt like bragging about the numbers of international students enrolled in the STEM programs.
