My traveling partner and I are on a 6 day trip to the WA coast, 2 night in La Push to visit the Hoh rain forest and 4 on Sequim Bay. The weather has been unbelievable, 72º in the Hoh.

La Push
Sitting on the deck watching the surf and local surfers. Big swells = wonderful sound to sleep to.

Hoh rain forest
It is hard to photograph the rain forest, the biodensity just overwhelms the camera.

Rialto Beach Olympic NP
Rialto Beach is near La Push so we cruised over while waiting for our cabin to be ready.

We stayed at this VRBO last year and loved it, saw 1 whale and several seals. This time so far 1 seal and 1 larger something, sea lion? Didn’t look big enough for a whale. We are in Diamond Cove if anyone is interested in a great spot to relax.

Our cabin deck in La Push
The resort is owned by the local Quileute people and is a delight, 50′ from the ocean. Highly recommended.
Thank you so much realbtl, do send us more when you can.
Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.

I would love wave hai from the Port Townsend side of those beautiful pics of Discovery Bay….it was the playground of my youth at my Grandma and Grampa’s place. Got to go back a little over a year ago and would send some pictures if I had better IT skills..

@JPL: you should. It’s completely different from the coast down here.

October was exceptionally nice this year. It is usually cold and wet, but the drought stuck around late and it was just beautiful. One of the best for autumn color I have seen in years. Better weather on the beach than we see in the summer!

The WA coast is great – really wild, as in wilderness for miles. Tip from long time resident for out of state travelers: North Cascades Highway from July to late October. It’s one of the least visited National Parks, passes through the greatest concentration of glaciers in the lower 48, blue green lakes. It’s a beautiful highway that traverses the verdant west slopes – 100 inches of rain to the piney east side – 20 inches or less. Think Alaska panhandle to Wyoming. Mazama, one stop sign, and Winthrop, flashing red(?) are fantastic east side resort towns.
There are plenty of amazing places to visit in state and nearby but N. Cascades is unique.
