Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

It’s a good piece. click on over. but then come back!!

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

Republicans do not pay their debts.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

Dumb motherfuckers cannot understand a consequence that most 4 year olds have fully sorted out.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Quote tweet friends, screenshot enemies.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

Petty moves from a petty man.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Pouring the rain in MD. Still gonna go vote for Ben Jealous and Jesse Colvin no matter how much they may have pissed me off with their shitty ads. Especially Colvin.

Also, I’m still a bit curious as to how a Colvin canvasser showed up at my house roughly 48 hours after I trashed his last ad here on BJ.

Steve’s coloring and long hair reminds me of a male kitty we had years ago along with his beautiful calico sister. We always wondered if they had some Maine coon in their DNA. Wonderful, sweet kitties.

    I am a great-aunt.

My oldest niece had her daughter finally – 11 days after the due date.
She’s 7 pounds, 6 ounces, and my sister says she had a pair of lungs on her :)
First baby in our family in a decade.
    Welcome, little Yolanda.
    Can’t wait to meet you.

I voted by mail almost four weeks ago in a well organized Good State. It’s sort of anti-climactic. I’m quite sure that the horrible Darrell Issa is going to be replaced by a D, the governor will remain a D and I’m certain that the Senate will remain D. It would be nice to see Ammar Campa-Najjar win, but whether or not he does, the current Duncan Hunter is going to jail sooner or later. I’m going to avoid MSNBC and work in the yard today.

Miserable weather in upstate NY this morning, but quite healthy turnout at our little polling place, so that was good to see. NY-22 (Brindisi vs. Tenney) was one of the closest Congressional races in the country, but a bunch of rightwing PAC money flooded the zone with negative ads the last two months and didn’t seem to be answered by the Brindisi campaign in any coherent way IMHO (he mostly campaigned on defending the ACA). Polls a few weeks ago had him down anywhere from 3-6%. Not hopeful on that front, but looking for Dems to sweep most other NY statewide offices.

Look, I don’t want to get anyone in trouble, but I’m parked at the border in my Soros-Bus and I don’t see a single illegal immigrant waiting to get on. What is wrong with these people? Do they think the vote just frauds itself?

Thanks, John (and Steve). I needed that morning laugh.

Steve reminds me of my beloved long-departed cat, Winston – same Maine coon looks. He showed up at our house and insisted on being adopted, then terrorized our other cat, a smaller female. There was lots of screeching, but we noticed there was never any blood or injuries.

As soon as he was fed, he was at the door waiting to be let out; rain was no barrier. (Although he did enjoy the gentle toweling on re-entry.) He was a good garden companion, and a great lapcat. Despite having the almost ideal cat now, I miss the stubborn feline.

One more tidbit: he was one of those cats that gets overstimulated with long petting and would nip when he had enough. I could usually feel it coming and stop in time, but not always. One time, annoyed, I nipped back. He looked up at me from my lap with a “so that’s how it’s gonna be” look, then bent his head and gave me a much harder nip on my thigh. I got the message.

I know I moan about this quite a bit when I post but by the Salted Balls of Jeebus BBC’s coverage of these Elections is driving me utterly bonkers. If I hadn’t given up weekday drinking (and it wasn’t mid-afternoon here) I’d be in the pub right now drowning the mental pain.

    In short, the bullet points.

Democrats are bitterly divided between Old Establishment and Young Bernistas and so lack a compelling message.

No one knows what Democrats are campaigning on or believe in.

The surge in early voting means that Both Sides have huge enthusiasm.

Trump has defined the terms of these Mid-Terms because of his instinctive understanding of and connection with the concerns of Heartland Voters.

White people in depressed Appalachian towns feel looked down on and dislike being called stupid racists by ‘Those People’.

There’s really no way of knowing what’s going to happen because it’s too close to call.

It’s like.. you get paid for this? Really? Can I have your job? I can browse the Opinion pages of the NYT for 5 minutes too.

Please, Blue Wave the shit out of this Election, if only so I can see the BBC’s American Politics ‘experts’ experience cognitive melt-down in real time. “How did nobody see this coming?” They’ll ask. “Because you deliberately chose to look the other way!” I’ll say. But they’ll still keep their jobs. Assholes.

    Rant over.

I rode by a few voting sites near me, which tend to vote republican and the parking lots were full. fk
